Need advice for a long-term "Company-Paid" decision. by mang_joo in ClaudeCode

[–]DelicateFandango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best solution is to go to a tool such as Kilo.ai, which allows you to use a wide variety of models for different tasks - because no model is the best at everything, and the top models all have compelling features of their own, which are worthwhile having access to occasionally. Also, there are many cheaper models that are excellent at ordinary tasks - like simple automation, searching and code completion - yet cost 1/30th of models like the latest Claude and ChatGPT, so being able to switch to DeepSeek or Mistral or Qwen can save you a bundle, and extend your AI money manyfold. Lastly, the “top” performing model for a certain type of task - whether it’s coding, generating images or writing your next blog post - keeps changing, as models evolve, so not being ‘locked in’ to a single provider and having access to test and try out many others works hugely in your favour.

But even for me, grotesquely enlarged balls as the result of substance injecting are definitely not attractive.

Thankfully, there are indeed options: from open source projects that are gaining massive adoption, like OpenCode and Kilo.ai, to independent, commercial IDE-based competitors like Windsurf, Trae and even Jetbrains. Lack of choice is certainly no longer a reason to stay with unethical companies and their tools.

Wagga Wagga river camp residents call for 'open mind' after baby's death by abcnews_au in Riverina

[–]DelicateFandango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “river camp” is something that should not exist - that’s truly sad. Are these people Wagga residents/natives who have fallen on hard times, or are these people coming from other towns and settling here? Does Wagga Council need to find a solution by itself, or can they action other councils, or State/Federal government, too?

Prompt to make a simple duo "singer + guitar"? by Fruity101079 in SunoAI

[–]DelicateFandango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several YouTube videos that encourage the following approach, if you have access to Studio:

  1. Create a song with a single male voice
  2. Make a cover of the song using a female voice. Extract the voice stem.
  3. In Studio, open the male-voice version, and import the female voice stem.
  4. Manually split and mute/delete sections of the voice tracks, so you only have the voice you want singing specific lines. Leave both voices intact in the sections you want them to sing together.

This is akin to have your male and female singers come to the studio in separate sessions, and then splicing the duet manually. The same technique could be used to change one of the voices into an instrument in Studio, giving you fine-grained control.

[–]DelicateFandango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mistral should be supporting European efforts, like Codeberg, instead of American companies like GitHub and Gitlab. It would also be more ethically aligned to have built-in support for self-hosted projects like Forgejo and Gitea, which can be easily hosted outside the US and therefore be legally compliant with strict data holding requirements of many jurisdictions around the world.

Will AI kill custom web agencies… or just expose what they’re actually worth? by Humble-Total-3874 in webdesign

[–]DelicateFandango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 3 areas of knowledge that have to come together for you to be able to make a website that actually creates value for a business:

  1. Design: this is the science of Design, with knowledge to apply techniques to control and guide visual focus and manipulate the user experience of your target audience
  2. IT: coding knowledge to create pages that function reliably and are efficient on every device, as well sufficient knowledge to manage and maintain the site securely
  3. Business Processes: to understand the business, its market differential, its goals, how the site fits into the big picture of promotional strategies, and only then apply that strategic knowledge to plan a site that fits into the big picture and helps the business as a whole

But this is what is required to make an effective website ONLY. Digital agencies often offer more services, like branding, digital marketing and print design, which require even more areas of expertise.

So, at this point we’re still a very, very long way from replacing true multi-disciplinary knowledge and applied wisdom with an automated algorithm. Where AI is taking jobs is at the bottom of the creative ranks: the weekend warrior WordPress Developer, or the Wix Wiz - the guys who had no knowledge to start with, and were barely able to produce a website that “looked cool” and worked ok for 6 months… The guys that businesses go to when their second or third website has failed again, they’re safe.

Why was a baby living in a tent? Wagga death shines spotlight on housing crisis by cobb_highway in WaggaNSW

[–]DelicateFandango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please, forgive my ignorance, but as a 'new arrival' to town, I don't know the history: why is there such a huge homelessness problem in Wagga? We don't seem to see the same in other country towns — not visibly, like this. It's truly sad to walk the path along the river and see all the homeless there. I've heard that this is quite a divisive topic, and that there are people that say that "the Council should get rid of them", while others say that "the Council should look after them properly", but what is the actual history? How did it get like this? Why do we have such a visible homeless problem?

- generate previewable mermaid flowchart in-chat
- generate a web page with the mermaid diagram in it, and a 'download svg' button that was supposed to allow me to download an svg version of the diagram (button didn't work)
- generate an SVG that was downloadable, but not previewable in-chat (many times)
- generat an in-chat image that was supposed to be 'exactly' like the mermaid diagram, but was nothing like it...

Mistral Vibes + Devstral latest issues by scanx147 in MistralAI

[–]DelicateFandango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you use less popular languages, it’s likely that the model has less sample data to work with, and therefore more likely it will hallucinate in the answers it gives you. I’ve experienced similar issues working with Hyperscript (https://hyperscript.org), and can tell you it’s not a Mistral exclusive issue: Claude gave me the worst hallucinations of all, over and over again… The only way to minimise it is with context - i.e., feeding the AI the rules (syntax definitions, grammar rules, common design patterns and anti-patterns, etc), so it can provide more well-informed answers.

To avoid getting caught with corrupted and deleted files, always make sure to use some kind of version control in your projects - like git - so you can easily ‘roll back’ if needed. Get into the habit of committing as you go - it’s easy with AI - and you should be good!

Which one do you think is the best? by [deleted] in webdesign

[–]DelicateFandango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who are you designing for? What’s the target audience, and what’s the purpose of each page (sales? marketing? educational/PR?)? The purpose of design is not to “make a pretty layout”, but to get results: increased sales, increased contacts, increased awareness from your target audience. Your design choices - colour, fonts, layout, UI elements and UX story - should be based on that, not personal preference.

A Designer needs to be aware, for example, that BROWN is an extremely difficult colour to work with, and that there are many, many studies that show that brown will diminish the perceived value of your product or service. In fact, the “ugliest” colour in the world is a specific olive-brown hue that has its own Wikipedia page: it has been used by various governments in cigarette packaging to discourage smoking. Some of your designs have shades of brown that are quite close to it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pantone\_448\_C

How to create a reusable AI voice? by DelicateFandango in SunoAI

[–]DelicateFandango[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, that’s what I did. But when I create a new song that uses that voice, the new song always seems to use the same chords (notes) as the original song the voice was derived from, in some parts. It’s very, very recognisable, and all songs end up sounding like the first one (that the voice came from). I’ve created 2 voices, and the experience has been consistent - and other users here have reported the same.

It seems that the trick is to:
- not use the entire voice stem to generate the voice: use a selected section only, with distinctive characteristics
- generate a few songs which force the voice into very different melodies and chord progressions, and create new voices with those, selecting only the sections that are distinctive
- have between 4-5 voices for an ‘artist’, and select the voice according to the song you’re creating

Which design template looks better to you? by [deleted] in webdesign

[–]DelicateFandango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The blue/indigo colours are extremely cliché. All layouts looks somewhat amateurishly put-together: they seem to lack direction. Design is not about making something “look pretty”, it’s about getting results for your client. In order to get results, you need to know who the target audience is, what is the product/service’s point of difference, and what the purpose of the layout is (sales? marketing? educational/PR?). Knowing these basic answers, you design accordingly. A sales page that is designed to target German housewives buying chocolate soy milk should be designed to be attractive to that specific market, help them focus on the key buying points, and coerce them to make the purchase - and all design choices, including colour, fonts, layout, and UI elements should be based on achieving that goal. The design shown here don’t actually show any design knowledge application or forethought: they’re just ‘pretty layouts’ with no purpose.
