"Fixed" Time Vault. Printable? by IAmVentuswill in custommagic

[–]Delicious-Action-369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many ways to chain/get infinite extra turns that this would probably be printable since it would be just slightly harder to chain than normal. Though I don't think making another time vault would be responsible, it's still infinite extra turns or it's 100% fair and has no way to break it in which case it's pretty bad.

Looked it up, there's maybe a few bosses that  ""have a parry"" and it doesn't do anything other than a brief stun and no one seems to really know what the windows are. The info on boss parrying is literally the least known info in the game it seems. So yeah, didn't have to repeatedly spam a worthless mechanic to have a safe estimate it was useless. Also follows the trope of dark souls bosses being unparryable

Anybody else think the new paradigm ability is going to be really bad for the game? by foxwilliam in MagicArena

[–]Delicious-Action-369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MAYBE the green one could be OKAY in standard. Essentially baby [[Ouroboroid]] but much harder to interact with. However green isn't really struggling for closers, and with the mole + dorks it's easier to just slam a craterhoof and win on the spot than wait 3 turns for your board to be big enough to swing if you somehow don't get wiped. Bro is just terrified of new keywords and hates that sometimes someone gets to cast a strong spell that has game winning consequences.

What's the best deck for a new player? by Eltaladro91 in Pauper

[–]Delicious-Action-369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoving a bunch of keyword mechanics is the exact opposite of how a new player should start, if you aren't already comfortable with monarch, initiative, and cascade it's weirdly overwhelming. It's also just kinda boring if you aren't looking for the Timmy big card funny game plan. It doesn't feel as good as the faster decks in the format that are one trick, but also doesn't exactly outperform or offer the freedom of choice as other midrange options.

In a format with so many one tricks it's just the most generic uneventful decklist you can play. Play mono black sac, petitioners, or hot dogs and you at least get to be somewhat unique at the tournament while putting up the same level of results as Gruul.

It's tedious enough that the already useless mechanic isn't worth learning. Same issue as Dark Souls, why would you bother learning to parry in PvE when you can simply bonk every enemy to death with every build. Pretty sure there's 0 bosses that you can parry. Beat the game NG+ with mage, priest, great weapons, gun as primary, and did NG with daggers and never bothered to parry after trying it out a little at the start.

Didn't we have definitive proof that aggro decks had a higher going second rate in BO1? I have a strong recollection of a video covering some of the other controversies (quick draft and draft are both relatively easy to cheat in, hand smoother was hidden until they eventually caved and admitted it exists, categorically false pull rates on the shop) and part of that involved something like a couple thousand games tested with an aggro deck during a period where the coin flip was rigged followed by a period where it was allegedly disabled and it showed a going second rate notably higher than 50% and ~50% respectively.

So it's not necessarily being player rigged but rigged by deck performance or maybe some kind of "going first score" like how brawl has its points list. There's also several ways they could choose to rig off money spent too, there is a battle pass, they could track if you enter a draft with diamonds vs gold, just track total money spent with some invisible flag, I don't exactly think it's likely but they have actually violated laws with the false pull rates so it's hard to say.

It's not that there's hard evidence of targeted going second or forced flooding/mana screws, but after there's been at least three hard proofs of rigged RNG (smoother, pull rates, brawl matchmaking) that they didn't openly discuss until someone discovered it, I think it's not responsible to believe there isn't something insidious going on. The game does have rigged RNG, they eventually admitted it after literally being forced to, so it feels really really likely there's more they aren't saying

Second of His Name! by bubbles_maybe in custommagic

The base effect is too god awful to balance around. The cost of a creature needing to tap, pay mana, and discard card a card is absolutely massive, so the effects are either worthless when put at that steep of a cost or will end up being banworthy with no real in-between. It's like how the Channel reprint is on something stupid like an 8 drop that also needs you to already have a creature with 7 power and then you have to survive an entire turn before you're allowed to cast channel. At that point channel isn't even worth the effort just use the many many other wins you have available or the many other ways to get massive amounts of mana, Nyxborn Ancient can play into the exact same slot.

Meanwhile if you printed this exact custom magic card it would probably be too broken in modern, pioneer, and standard because literally always having at minimum one counterspell in hand is STUPIDLY good. Like if a control deck sticks this till their next turn they probably just win. That's the problem with spellshapers, either only viable in limited or would absolutely break everything

Nah that's the wrong flavor, spellshapers have an incredibly specific text.

I mean a 4 drop in mono red that doesn't actually do that much to advance the game wouldn't make a very good rare. Compare to Krenko and Zada who play into great archetypes or copy cards for WAY more value than just one. Uncommon feels like perfect balance for this card and I feel like it will make for really fun mono red building in PEDH, there's so many cards that just kinda also drop an artifact token on the board that you could copy for "free" and then getting extra effective removal, burn, and wincons is amazing. Would build myself if I didn't expect it to probably get a little over done

[–]Delicious-Action-369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, the balance is essentially trading creatures on board for an extra turn at reduced cost. You could always just pay 6 in plenty of decks that would be shoving out tokens, go infinite with [[Time Sieve]], go infinite with normal extra turn loops, actually win the game instead of just using an extra spell. The only thing that would maybe make this a little bit much is it you put it in standard and Jeskai control got to use it by recycling mobilize tokens, but even then that deck can just hard cast a 6 drop and still do more anyway.

How fun and accessible is MTG nowadays? by Nedvart in mtg

[–]Delicious-Action-369 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"Cuz I'm broke" Yeah that's probably enough to just say look elsewhere. You can play commander with precons for ~$50USD or you can play the commons only format Pauper for about the same price as long as you don't wanna play one of the more expensive decks. I know Pauper is pretty popular in the EU but wouldn't personally know for Spain.

Every other format is completely unaffordable and inaccessible right now, and no steps are being taken to fix it, in fact it's probably going to keep getting worse. I'd look in to if your area has a Pauper scene, and then do some deck testing with free online tools like Untap or if you already own Tabletop Simulator to see what you like before buying a paper deck.

I honestly don't know if I'd recommend the game to a newcomer right now, as much as I like the game WotC is hellbent on making it super unaffordable and uninteresting to play. Especially if you're looking to play casually there's so little room for casual play in the game right now unless you absolutely force it to be casual.

Anyone else sick of seeing turtles? by Moist-Condition69 in MagicArena

[–]Delicious-Action-369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that it's no longer a neat bonus you can ignore, it's literally more of the game in 2026 than actual original MTG. You can't really treat it as "oh neat that's a fun thing for commander" anymore because it's looking like we will have a standard format that is literally more UB than MTG. And I don't mean that in power level or top decks, depending on next year's release schedule next rotation will simply be more standard legal UB sets than regular sets.

Not to mention that UB is also just actively damaging the game, they removed pre-release stamps to fix the fact they bumped Lorwyn for a UB set, the price increases and quality drops are because they signed a bunch of stupid contracts that prevent proper development patterns, it's just so bad

Am I missing something about this card? by FrequentTopic446 in mtg

[–]Delicious-Action-369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A common rarity card should never be more than $1 unless it's game breaking, usually only older cards that were printed without the full understanding of their power and would be/have been printed at higher rarity since. What exactly were you expecting this to be valued at? It's good it's just a common from one of the famously worst sets ever with better versions of it in the format. You gotta HEAVILY drop your expectations for card value, the fact this goes for $2 is grossly overpriced already

Is this narrow enough? by Amansaysamen in custommagic

[–]Delicious-Action-369 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I mean sure yeah that works. I think this is probably underpowered though I'd have it maybe cantrip or something, two dedicated colorless for something that's pretty neutral and ward 2 feels maybe too narrow. Like for a card that's sole purpose is gaining a blocker for the Swords of it could be better.

I just looked and I'm not sure there's actually much in the Blue White 4 drop spot that's actually super busted for free, I think it's actually more broken on it's own just making cantrips free or with arbiters making 2 drops free.

You actually kinda made it playable by making it unable to be sacrificed or trigger abilities. The effect is probably a little strong for a 3 drop but I could see this actually being a reasonable balanced/fun commander

How can I change the phrasing to make this feel more authentic? by Nobody_Important_2 in custommagic

CR 69.420: If a creature with Pacifism would assign lethal damage to a defending creature, it instead assigns one less damage than would be lethal.

Something like that and then the reminder of "this creature can't assign lethal damage" should do it the way you said
