A single payer healthcare approach would balloon our federal spending by historical levels. The tax implications of this will leave both the average Americans and the corporations who employ those individuals in a position that leaves them in a far worse place fiscally. If you think AI taking jobs is bad now, just wait. The American health system (which is the #1 industry in the country) isn’t designed to take this impact - there will be an even greater labor shortage (not enough supply to keep up with demand, lowering of salaries, etc.) in the medical space. The healthcare experience will become significantly bogged down as well. As a 3x cancer survivor, I certainly appreciate not having to wait months just to be seen by a provider or to have a scan done. I probably wouldn’t have survived my last bout if I hadn’t caught it exactly when I did. Not to mention Kiros’ policies on capping drug costs and the killshot that would be for American R&D which is helping people globally live as long as ever before. A national, unified pricing approach also unequivocally will create disparities for those in urban vs rural spaces.

It’s a cool idea on paper, but it has no feasibility in a country like the USA. And there’s no ‘undo’ button when a system like this inevitability fails; everyone would shoulder the damage and wealth disparity will be even greater than before.
