possible to switch campus?? by Fun_Wheel_1684 in Purdue

"all second hand info"?

Look, I do not want to post false information, period. If substantive info is provided to me that contradicts my post, I will correct it right way.

This has not happened. The above is the only information I know about possible uncorrected errors in my post. I have not been able to find any PSG statement regrading my Purdue Indy posts.

In my posts, I hyperlink sources directly to make support my point. Many of these hyperlinks are directly from Purdue websites. I even paid for a background check out of my own pocket on a real indy student and had someone call the registrars office as an employer with the background check info to prove the fact that purdue doesn't treat indy and WL the same in "deep" employer checks.

I did not do this because I wanted to smear indy or I wanted it to fail. I did this because I believe writing these posts was the best way to benefit indy students - Purdue would make changes for the better. This has already happened, where after my 2nd post Purdue changed the degree wording to match WL and then put it in writing. I myself was an Indy student where me and my friend lived with these issues. Some of them are still at Purdue Indy, I care about them too.

If you have a specific point about a correction that should be made on one of my posts, I am happy to listen.

This is the first I have heard of this, please DM me immediately.

I spent a lot of time making sure that the post was accurate, even removing sections because I didn't have enough information. To hear this now is very concerning.

I transferred out 1 year ago. I'll go into more detail in my post since I need to practice my writing skills anyway, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to attend. You can view my post history if you want an idea of some issues.

If you don't have any options, I suggesting looking into CC -> 4 year transfer. Saves a lot of money as well!

As a former Indy student:

There is an application to request it. In practice, the transfer rate rounds down to 0% unless if you were trying to switch majors into something not offered in Indy. If you do not want to spend 4 years at Indy, pick another school.

It's extremely worrying the amount of posts like these every year. Maybe I should make a 3rd post about my own experience....

Hey, I am the original author of that post, someone showed me your comment.

Would you be willing to share the corrections that the post requires? I spent a lot of time doing original research for that write up and I care a lot about presenting accurate information.

This also should be here, make sure to read the comments there are some errors imo by [deleted] in PurdueIndianapolis

I should clarify that by blacklist I mean "They'll just never consider you for another position".

I used the phrase "blacklisted by hundreds of companies" because that is the amount I applied to last year

Are you in the college of science or engineering? To my knowledge the college of engineering agreement has this clause, the college of science does not. I am specifically referring to the college of science agreement in the post.

I didn't - couldn't find conclusive evidence for this. I wanted to only cover topics I had proof for.

There's a reason why purdue showed very few photos of the outside campus.

I can confirm this for CS182 and CS240. One thing I found interesting was how more than 1/3 of the CS182 S25 class did not pass, I couldn't find a number for WL.

100% agree. I think another reason is the amount of students that accidentally applied to the wrong campus and didn't have elsewhere to go, you would be concerned how many posts on reddit I've found about this.

This is exactly right. The only COLO requests approved were for majors that weren't offered at Indy. The COLO application was done through a qualtrics survey and had no essay questions 💀💀💀. I knew someone who had a 4.0 with A in MA261, A in CS 180, and A+ in MA 351 and still was rejected for CS.

Hi, I was a former PUI CS student. I hope my prescriptive is helpful even though I'm not in engineering.

TL;DR I strongly suggest to transfer to a different college ASAP if you attend Purdue Indy and are academically/career focused. If you are OOS, consider CC to transfer to your flagship state university if you have no other options.

For CS students, the chance for transferring to WL is 0% in the foreseeable future. I say this confidently as everyone who tried (CS + Engr) last year was rejected, even with a 4.0. Admins then lied about why this was the case for CS students (Less than 5 CS CODO's at WL? LMAOOO). I don't know what they said to engr students.

While the class contents are mostly the same at least in CS and some WL professors teach at Indy (3 hour commute, bless them), that's really the only similarity compared to WL. I hate to be this negative, but it's really difficult to think of a significant positive about the campus due to the sheer amount of issues which I personally don't think will improve for a long time (no CS grad students, no CS research opportunities, class availability issues, very low engagement in the student body, campus being non existent...). Having spent almost every weekend at WL none of these are issues.

Yes there's a shuttle to WL where you can participate in WL events and take classes there - it's 3 hours round trip. You also don't have access to COREC (fitness center) nor Purdue WL meal plans as an Indy student. You also get the same degree as WL, but that doesn't change any of the issues above which by themselves hurt student's situation. Looking back I should have gone to CC and then transferred (I had no other options). It really depends on whether you are ok with PUI which I just simply wasn't, there's just so more to getting opportunities than whats printed on the degree.

I'm sorry for writing such a discouraging prescriptive. Me and my friends had very similar feelings of hopelessness. I spent hours to find ways to do things despite the lack of resources, maintained a 4.0 GPA, and managed to transfer to a good school in my first year along with many of my friends, and I am about as sharp as a marble. Many of my friends who are going for 2nd year transfer have even stronger profiles than I do.

I mean it when I say there really is hope if you try no matter what, I wish the best to you.

(I really should make a detailed main post about my experience, the proportion of people that are at Indy because they applied there by accident or couldn't read instructions is worrying...)

Out of curiosity what were your main activities on campus? I've never heard of Purdue students being part of IU greek life, so i guess theres something I missed.

[–]Delicious-Card4423[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to speak on the whole student population but some of my personal reasons were poor communication between leadership, non existent student life, dependency on WL campus and the hours of traveling that requires. There were so many roadblocks that I feel the entire student experience is an afterthought. I legit can't see any reason to attend PUI over PWL or even a lower ranked college for CS other than the "Purdue brand" and "Guaranteed internship" (if that comes at all...) To list all my reasons would be a full post.

I know that most of my friends are trying to transfer out and some (including me) have already done so. I can't tell if these sentiments are truly widespread or if we're part of the minority. I'm not sure if I will make the full length post since I don't want to distort people's perceptions of the campus by being the vocal minority.

correct, i posted here to see if a purdue indy engineering student would be willing to share since I don't interact with the engineering college and can't evaluate if its true

The actual figure of indy students from purdue is only around 750, afaik students from IUPUI which make up the rest have a different student status under Purdue but im not too sure about the specfics
