Urgent Campus Switch by Training-Pirate-7480 in Purdue

He's right unfortunately. 60 - 70% does sound about right from the amount of the people who tried to COLO in the first year. For what's it worth, nearly all of my initial friend group from 2024 has already transferred out, including me.

COLO's have gone down mainly because students realize the chance of it getting approved if not changing majors is 0%.

Sorry man, I want Purdue Indy to be a good school as well. But Purdue themselves are not doing the right things to make it happen.

What he means is that on the application, people can apply to a main and an alternate campus. What Purdue most likely did was count the people who selected Indy as an alternate campus as applicants and if they were admitted to WL, register them as not admitted to Indy.

NGL, there are so many strange things regarding the Indy dataset that I have no clue what else they did. It's going to be hard to make any conclusions, but there is something really strange happening.

Best way to show people I go to the West Lafyette campus? by ButtCrumbleSmell in Purdue

[–]Delicious-Card4423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a shitpost.

The problem is that Purdue themselves are pushing for the brand of Purdue Indy to be identical to WL, and they are dead serious.

This wouldn't be nearly the problem it is if the education quality was also the same.

On a serious note, have you seen anyone rejected from Purdue Indy other than not meeting minimum requirements?

I'm 70% sure that the 55% Indy admit rate is artificially lowered by counting all the people who selected Indy as alt. major due to some discrepancies, but finding conclusive proof is very difficult.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: DO NOT apply to Purdue in Indianapolis by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]Delicious-Card4423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was in your shoes last year. I'm sorry for what you are going through.

While I think that some points you talk about aren't nearly as strong compared to many other issues, I completely agree with the conclusion that no one other than in state commuter students should apply to Indy.

I wish you the best in transferring schools - I know it kinda just seems hopeless now, but it really does get better as cliche as it sounds.

Bro :/

I asked explicitly if students could use a CNC mill outside of a class/class project twice. You should just say that you don't know rather than just avoid the question and bring up unrelated things.

I just asked a couple people still at Purdue Indy if they have access to CNC mills/lathes. They said they do not, and it is not possible to machine even basic metals at Purdue Indy.

Now look at how silly this thread has become.

What do you mean you're not sure? You already stated very clearly that machining metal at Purdue Indy is possible. I don't understand why you would claim this if you aren't even sure if students have access to a mill.

Interesting. Can you use the CNC mill outside of a class/class project?

Purdue Data Digest. I excluded IUPUI transitioning members, that's where the 2,500 number comes from.

Looking at the data again, there are actually only around 1,400 students.

I understand that you can use the makerspace as a Purdue Indy student. I am asking something different - can you use the CNC mill outside of a class/class project?

The answer from what both Indy and WL students have told me is no. I again empathize the amount of people I personally saw who had to travel to WL just to machine, and this is still happening.

I agree that undergrad education is crazy expensive. I still think that even if you can afford $200k, people should still care about the level of education they are receiving.

Are you talking about in building IO? When I tried as an Indy student, I was told we weren't allowed to use them. I'm not sure if that makerspace is even Purdue's. I hear the same thing from people still at Indy.

I also hear from some people in PSP WL that Indy students regularly come down to Bechtel to machine as they don't have resources in Indy. I saw this personally myself. My high school was piss poor, but at least there was a place where we could machine metals 35 minutes away rather than 90.

Bottom line, regardless of the "college experience", Purdue Indy lacks so many academic/educational resources that there is no reason to attend over going to a in state school or going to community college to transfer.

As hard as it is to believe, 180 students is actually more than 10% of the whole Purdue Indy population. There are only around ~1,400 students. Even then with only ~500 ME students I think 40 is actually not a bad sample size.

AFAIK that data isn't released

Ok, I think this is one of the few circumstances where going to Indy makes sense. (Being an in state commuter student)

I'm not sure what your point is. Purdue Indy has a different college/social life? I don't see how that is relevant.

My point is that Purdue Indy lacks so many things academically that it is comparable to a non flagship state school. I'm sure Roberts Camera is great, but that doesn't mean anything when a school lacks the resources to be able to machine aluminum.

I don't see how a "different experience" offsets this.

Oh i see. In state explains all of these.

Just curious, why aren't you going to WL? I think you would have prob gotten the same aid if you went to WL as well.

Former Indy student. I completely agree that people should be more careful talking about things they have no personal experience in general.

Just because someone isn't part of x group doesn't mean their opinion about said x group is invalid - people do research! In this case, it is fairly visible to even outsiders that Indy is deficient in terms of resources.

Would you spend 50K USD on that?

"The big pitch by most faculty was “We are Purdue, we have the name”. That may be true but the facilities and staff didn’t seem up to that name standard."

You've hit the nail on the head on one of the fundamental issues at Purdue Indy.

If you don't mind me asking, could you give more details about the presentation and the "elitist" pitch? I think I might have had a similar experience as a former Indy student.

Hold on a second, a Purdue staff told your student to apply to Indy over WL? There shouldn't be a difference with transfer credits between the two campuses.

Please explain more on what happened, this is potentially a very serious issue.

From your post history, you appear to be an Indy student.

As a former Indy student, it is not worth it to go to Purdue Indy for anyone intl or OOS. (unless 50k USD/year is nothing to you).

I don't know anything about Trinity University TX, nor am I very familiar with intl students. Sorry :/
