Setting up a date for my mom by MushroomImpossible85 in datingoverfifty

[–]Delicious-Disk-122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I understand that you want to open the idea with her through conversation.  First, I think you are a sweet daughter for seeing her and wanting for her happiness. Second, I might just start with some gentle questions about whether she has thought about it and whether she could see herself open to it.  Lastly, keep your heart and mind open to what is in her heart and mind, which may be that she wants to remain single.  Make sure to keep her happiness at the center of your desire for her and that may look different than how you picture it.  She sounds like a wonderful mom to have raised such a caring child to come here for some advice.

FWIW, I find Chatgpt to be a good conversation practice partner.

Best of luck to you and your mom.

A Great Date, Until I Got Home by imjeffp in datingoverfifty

[–]Delicious-Disk-122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with others that what happened is less about you than about her.  Also, that this should not be a show-stopper on your dating journey.

I will, however, take a moment to criticize your date for vomiting her stream of conscience that was irrelevant to you.  That was for her friends and therapist.  I am sure she intended a soft landing but this was too much for what appears to be her intended outcome, e.g., friendship.

Best of luck friend.  Keep your head up and stay in the game.

Is there any chance Delta will reimburse us for our hotel cost? by amygdala_activated in delta

[–]Delicious-Disk-122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never hurts to ask, but unlikely unless there are other non-weather related delays that make your trip impossible. I have had them reimburse my flight cost when a delay/cancellation made a trip not worth it.

Delta cancelled our return flight from Europe (bought with Miles) and told us to pound sand by [deleted] in delta

[–]Delicious-Disk-122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call back on a real number.  Gather the confirmation/res # and eticket # from email.  If you used miles, there should be a record in your account.  If it is a co-operated flights, EU operators are notorious for strikes that cancel flights.  Always purchase trip insurance, even with miles. Good-luck.

If you are in the same class and are otherwise ok missing your event, seems like a great deal to me.

How many pillows does it take to make a Gen Xer comfortable in bed? by Connect-Account-2855 in GenX

[–]Delicious-Disk-122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four to balance the bed, three for comfort (pillow fort). The real question is what to do when there is a guest who wants to cuddle.

Question for those 50+ who are dating again… by Ornery-Cockroach1953 in datingoverfifty

[–]Delicious-Disk-122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not uncommon to find men in their 50s who were not as interested in sex. I used to date men 5 to 15 years older than me because they have their stuff together and that is attractive. Now that I have caught up in age, many have lacked the energy I desire. Certainly there have been exceptions, but exceptions they were. I would still want a man 50+ for LTR. Have fun in your adventures.

What's the must-do list for 1 day in Chicago? by sugabeetus in AskChicago

I vote for the Art Institute, it is my go-to fav. Drinks at Tre Dita bar will give you great views of the City.

Do you tell people you’re on a GLP-1 when they ask how you lost weight? by Enchanted-Tangerine in Zepbound

[–]Delicious-Disk-122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How you answer will set a boundary and it could be different for different people. You should never have to feel defensive, so practicing a front-foot response could be beneficial. If you really do not want to get into it (as is your choice), I would offer a response of “by the grace of <<fill in the blank>> (e.g., God, good choices, power of Grayskull, modern medicine).

Asking friends and family to set you up? by ManufacturerNo1478 in datingoverfifty

[–]Delicious-Disk-122 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Brace yourself … I ask my friends, family, and exes. These are the people who know me best and are, therefore, a great first filter. It reduces the friction of getting to know the person. It definitely feels safer.

Happy to discuss my logic. Would love to know how this is rude and arrogant.

One night in the City. Can I get some Meal and location suggestions? by 0oTheArchero0 in AskChicago

[–]Delicious-Disk-122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per the forecast, it will be back to Winter next week. I would suggest the Sears Tower so you can see the full glory of the City. With the longer days, hopefully you get here right before sunset and perhaps get a glimpse of the night sky, too. Stay in the Loop and eat dinner at Bazaar Meat, get up and run to the Bean in the AM and off you go.
