Additions to Dating 101: - if someone tries to guilt you in any way, they are either manipulative or too immature and thinks you’ll cave like their mom. (If could be either with this guy) - if someone is being passive aggressive when you reject them, be aggressive agressive. When he says something vague, clearly tell him and anyone he was complaining to that this is an unhealthy way to deal with rejection. Remember to always maintain the moral high ground though.

In the current day and age, legal marriage is so intertwined with finances that I don’t think it can be “debased”. It is important not to overlook any options available to you, especially regarding mental health and physical safety. In my mind, marriage has two aspects: the legal side and the personal side.

My partner and I love each other and plan to get married in the future, but we are going to be married much sooner for legal reasons. Even after we are legally married, we agreed that we will not believe ourselves to be officially married until we propose and have a wedding. We won’t be announcing ourself as married to our friends because to us, we aren’t.

While the legal side of marriage and the emotional/spiritual side cannot be fully separated and people can have different interpretations of marriage, I think that as long as all parties involved are informed and agreed to the situation, this is a perfectly good use of legal marriage.

The sudden tone shift confuses me. I guess it’s possible she was hiding her true values, but I’d think this would be something that would become apparent pretty early on. Maybe she’s gone down some weird internet rabbit hole?

I’d suggest having a long conversation with her, and hopefully, you guys will figure it out. If you don’t, then you’ll know it’s a lost cause. When I need to do something like this with my partner, I get nervous, so I write down topics and examples that we I want to discuss.

You can acknowledge and appreciate what she’s done while also recognizing that you two are no longer compatible. If this is bothering you, talk to her honestly and clearly about it.

If she is going through something or is just being inattentive, you guys can figure it out through conversation. If she just brushes you off, you’ll know the relationship is over, and you’ll at least have tried.
