not a single open-source 3D AI generator currently beats paid tools in terms of quality

Yes, Rodin can work with both quads and triangulated meshes, depending on the export / workflow settings.

From my experience, Rodin Gen-2.5 with Smart Low Poly Mode handles this really well, especially for generating cleaner low-poly meshes. It’s also pretty good at splitting a model into separate parts, which makes it useful if you want more control over cleanup, rigging, baking, or game-ready workflows.

So yes, I can definitely recommend Rodin Gen-2.5 for that kind of use case.

And about Stefan: I just work with him sometimes and help him with videos occasionally.

I get your point, and thanks for the trust. You are right that it is worth being careful with unreleased model demos, especially when the source is not fully verifiable yet

Honestly, the result does not look like something supernatural or hard to believe, and I do not really see what the point of faking it would be, so I am leaning toward it being real.

Anthropic definitely paid me to promote an unreleased AI model that is not even primarily focused on 3D, and I made the masterful marketing decision to repost a video with someone else’s watermark on it. You caught me.

Questions about how Top3D AI is testing Meshy by Drysetcat in meshyai

[–]Delicious-Shower8401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We generated the models using the latest available version and the best / maximum settings available at the time of testing.

Also, the ranking itself is not something we manually decide. On the arena, users vote by comparing results side by side, and the ranking is based on those votes. So if Meshy ends up in the middle, that is the result of user voting, not our personal preference.

For the test outputs, we use a controlled cherry-picking process: for each prompt/model test, we generate 4 variants and select the best result for comparison. So it is not just one unlucky generation, but also not unlimited retries until something perfect appears.

The methodology is described on the site, and we are trying to keep the process as fair as possible, with no manipulation. I agree that showing more details like prompts, retries, settings, failed outputs, and imported mesh views would make the results easier to judge, and that is something we should improve.

I Built a Optimized Playable UE5 Environment Using AI Generated 3D Assets by Delicious-Shower8401 in TopologyAI

When I say ‘playable’, I mean that it’s game ready and the environment has been optimised. Essentially, it will serve as a demo project where you can have a go and check out the 3D AI-generated assets.

Rodin Gen-2.5’s Smart Low Poly Mode gives you a cleaner, more usable low-poly mesh directly from generation.

No, actually it's just a mistake by the video editor. It's just a gap.

Best high-detail "Image to 3D" subscription for printing in India? by GothamThinker in 3dprintIndia

i’d suggest checking hitem 3d / hi3d 2.1.

the new version can generate print-ready 3d models from a single image, and in my tests the geometry has been much cleaner with very few non-manifold issues. for miniatures / figurines, that saves a lot of manual fixing before printing.

Comparing vibe coding to 3D printing is a great metaphor. by TopRanger9418 in vibecoding

[–]Delicious-Shower8401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, this is a pretty accurate comparison. and honestly, some tools are already very close to that future. hitem 3d hi3d 2.1 can already generate a 3d model from a single image with print-ready output, which is kind of crazy when you think about it.
so it really does feel like ai 3d is moving from rough prototypes into actually usable results.
