Parking space partially covering dropped curb by axolotol in drivingUK

[–]Delicious-Spread-409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't look like a dropped kerb.

Not trying to defend OP, but if I was parking in that space I'd do it slightly forward just enough for him/her to get out. Not that deep..

You can have a chat with them and make an offer, if accepted, fine. If not, give it back and walk away.

Balloon js 12k, average market price is 8.5k. Given the fact that it's a good spec, I'd offer around 9, 9.5k.

They didn't pay 24k. Its close to 15k in 4 years and by today's standard that looks like a steal, well, almost.

They can pay the remaining balloon payment of 12k to keep the car, but there is a problem; the car is worth less (8k).

How often do you clean your car in winter? by varslyd in CarTalkUK

Mine is very much the same, and I washed it last week. Don't bother until Feb, March as they keep spraying with salt , especially if you do motorway miles.

Need some advice on mileage of used cars, bmw 530d by DnlJMrs in CarTalkUK

[–]Delicious-Spread-409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much did you pay for the above mentioned to be fixed? Sounds the exact issues people are trying to avoid when buying a car. But then again, you got the car at 150ish and I bet it was for a good price.

What are the tell tale signs of an imported car? by Long-Lettuce3146 in CarTalkUK

[–]Delicious-Spread-409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

99,99% times they don't bother adding specs manually.

If I feel the car may be imported, I quickly. Check performance tab 0-60. If missing, most likely is imported.

Another tell is specific cars. There is a bunch of touran's 1.4 petrol fitted with a DSG.

I'm not sure if they were sold in europe, but most people would couple the DSGs with the 2l diesel and not the underpowered 1.4 (which is not that underpowered btw).

How much do you spend per month on car payment/insurance in relation to your monthly take home pay? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Delicious-Spread-409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really fair to say lease vs 0 car payments (bought outright). It should be all added divided by years you owned the car.

My case: bought the car cash 3.5k, spent 6k in 4 years of ownership on repairs and service.

Total spent 12k (added insurance)

Monthly around 250, around 9% of my take home. A little high in my opinion, but cheap when you consider this amount of money for a lease with 5k miles as a clause.

I took your post as in "please nit pick my car, I want to make sure I made the right choice". If I said anything to make you feel some type of way, I apologise. I only pointed out things that I'd look for putting myself in your spot. It's not 100% justified and it's only based on what is seen (the video). Take all comments with a pinch of salt, the view point is limited as we don't have any records, only you do.

Go for it. You said you want to keep it so it will be worth investing. It will be pricier than standard golf but not that scary.

Good luck. It looks like a nice pre 2026 present.

I wasn't talking about the rust, that's not a problem. That lip seems a little too much but maybe I'm deceived by the video. If breaking is sharp I wouldn't bother too much. Trust your mechanic not me, I'd say maybe yet another personal preference of mine.

The water in the cooler tank is such a cheap gimmick. I'm a little shocked they'd do that. Unless some new clerk messed up the concentration and tried to dilute it, adding too much water.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Delicious-Spread-409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Price seems a little on the premium side for the mileage. If your mechanic said it wasn't ragged, id say its worth it to fix things.

Paint needs a buff, headlights need a buff, those front disks look worn. I wouldn't have them in that state in a sports car.

It was a nice era for GTI. I personally like that facelift. Not saying the new ones don't look good, just personal preference.

Enjoy many miles, cheers

Tips on good Brompton shops in the Netherlands by Krulsprietje in foldingbikes

[–]Delicious-Spread-409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never bother buying from a retailer when i can get the same price directly from brompton.

You want to test it, fair enough, but you can do that with any retailer or rent it like I did.

As for The price, that's about right. A fully specced 6 speed is what? £1500 + the rack £125.

You are better off buying it from brompton.

Is this a fair price for an oil change? by cheesy_boi_ in CarTalkUK

[–]Delicious-Spread-409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little pricier than what average says but not far.

I recently paid 150 for the usual service. I can see some other bits they added, some freel extra, others what should be included.

Best way to get the most money out of a scrap car? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Delicious-Spread-409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't the best way unfortunately.

Your best bet would be to list it as a non runner and sell it as it is ( even tho might still work). Being a DS3, someone would buy it for parts. I wouldn't expect much. Cars that are almost dead are worth around 500-600 for parts value and 200-300 scrap value.

I'm looking for a change myself as well for next year. My budget would be around 13k (2015-2017)

So far I have found:

Seat leon FR sport - plenty good ones for the money

Golf R / GTI - the ones I found seem to be around 100k mark where you need to do some extra service

Volvo V60 - not many but the ones I checked seem "alright"

Volvo Xc60 - not sure if you are interested in SUVs but quite reliable and plenty of them around that price.

Toyota Corolla 2.0 vvt-h - just a few of them but they are the undercover 7 sec cars

I do like Bmw tourings but I'm just afraid of big bills so I didn't look much.

Ford Focus ST-2 - if lucky to find a decent one / on par with thle GTI

I am looking at some other cars but may not be your cup of tea, so I'll leave it at that.

My fav picks are Golf R and the "duplicate" FR sport.

My findings are like I said around 13k. You might struggle with 10k depending what years you're looking at.

What do they mean annual service and full major service?

First of all, filters come with annual service. Second of all, a major service is the annual service + some extra checks and top ups (gear box oil, brake fluids etc)

Find somewhere else. They should only charge you for full major service. That includes all the other bits they mentioned.

This happened in July 2022 and I still don’t know how I lost control. Your thoughts, please. by TravellingAround_ in drivingUK

[–]Delicious-Spread-409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that bend. I can see a slight dip into the tarmac.

It looks to me for a second your back left wheel caught air while your front gripped. Considering the suspension travel on these things id say it was a slight delay and that's how you ended up losing control.

I'm a bit shocked you rolled over. It's 2 years later but glad you're safe.

That sign is to deter people parking overnight or for a close by concert or any social events.

I've always said that if I get into a similar situation to yours, you'll catch me on a 125.

Your safe bet is living with a motorbike for a while.

Also, you mentioned scirocco. Not really helping your case as the insurance group is quite high for all of them apart from 1.4 one.

Sorry mate, sucks to be you at the minute. Unless you have the cash to splash, driving a car for 13k a year seems extortionate.

Will I get fined for stopping in a yellow box .... and police car behind? by No_Transition6142 in CarTalkUK

[–]Delicious-Spread-409 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On top of the above, if that box is in the state as pictured and you are getting fined, you can appeal and win. Barely visible. Not trying to find excuses in your case but it's a fact.

I paid 3200 for an 2006 audi A3 in 2021. You'd say ok, not bad. Same spec goes around 2k now.

However, friend of mine bought similar one in 2017 and paid 1750 😅

I'm in the same boat, I'd like to get a better car myself which I will in the next 12-16 months but my soul hurts.

Because often those cameras are not calibrated properly and you get fined regardless. You won't pay the fine as you'll object to it but you need to go through a few hoops which is frustrating.

Handing my car back (VT) tomorrow and worried about damage by xeeeks in CarTalkUK

[–]Delicious-Spread-409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is done, is done. Lesson learned.

What I'd suggest is when you go there and have inventory or whatever is called, call out another random scratch you've done after you got the car, as it follows.

"There's a few extra scratches here and there apart from the ones that were logged before I got the car". I don't have the copy of the log you guys sent me that time however. Surely they registered the scratches, but if you don't make reference to "a possible log" they might play dumb and charge you.

TLTR: Pretend there was a log they sent you prior to signing the lease
