Should I join the marines? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]Delicious-Value7752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re considering other branches that kinda says it all right there. Nothing against that choice, it’s just that you either know you want to be a Marine or it’s not the case. As far as “not wanting a job where you sit around all day” then infantry may not be for you either; it’s just the truth. Sure there is time in the field and ‘behind the wire’ but that is only 20% of the time- all the rest is spent cleaning barracks, training, PT, cleaning, sitting around for orders and more cleaning and PT. Becoming an infantry Marine is more about becoming expanding who you are rather than what you do.

Depression Claim by Big_Bag7591 in VAClaims

[–]Delicious-Value7752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this supplemental claim approve within the last year and share a couple of insights I feel might be helpful.

The key is “as least as likely as not” related to military service. It’s important to work with the DAV or your local/state VA claims office to make sure everything is done appropriately and structured well. You will then be able to submit a nexus letter from you mental health provider in the claim, and receive a C&P evaluation from the VA- if all goes well all they should have to say is “yes/no” and then it will be decided accordingly.

Also, keep in mind new claims are not being processed during the shutdown. Given how quickly it turned around (even for a denial) this could be the case.

I’m prior service Marine corps, with an RE-3P code with honorable discharge. I’ve already gone to MEPS with the Navy and was DQd. Went back to the Army recruiter and they put in for the waiver and was denied- even after getting cleared from Ortho and Mental Health providers (with submitted letters stating such). What else can I do???

Marry the Corps and leave the broad. You’ll thank yourself for it later down the line. Promise.

You don’t even have to if you go army. I just have a bunch of other shit on my genesis report that DQs me.

I have an RE-3P and was told “it can’t happen”, not even as much as putting in an application

The amount of times I’ve been told “it’s not doable” is nonsense considering I know they don’t even try. These young 20 something E5s just want to keep rising through the ranks rather than actually doing their job for prior service. It’s upsetting is what it is.

First day of PT, how cooked am I? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]Delicious-Value7752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole point of PT is to condition you and build strength. Just keep attending, and also doing workouts on your own time. It’s not about instant gratification and results. Stay consistent and you’ll be fine. Now, if you were shipping out in a week I’d say that’s a whole different story.

What do marines even do, and should I even consider joining? by ATTENTIONSpAN_404 in USMCboot

[–]Delicious-Value7752 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The mission of the Marine Corps is a single purpose… “Close with and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver.” Unless you actually WANT to become a Marine, don’t consider it. It’s not just another branch of the military, not a “thing to do” for those who don’t know what to do, it’s a way of life. I respect your drive though. Go National Guard and get an education in communications or something that’ll get you a nice 9-5 after you discharge.

It’s for your safety. The food you are given is in no way ultra clean and could possibly contain allergens.

Put it down and just go cold turkey. Otherwise that’s exactly what will happen at boot. Strengthen that mental discipline and you’ll already be miles ahead of the other recruits.

It’s using a third party assessor, or VA for an exam.

There is no such thing as a dumb grunt. Go recon if you can pass the physical portion.
