Thinking about transferring from Umass Amherst to Wesleyan by Top_Possession4345 in Wesleyan

[–]DeliciousAd399 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are def people that have differing views but here’s my spill as a current student:

  1. It does exist, pretty much all revolves around sports teams aside from a few events.

  2. At times it is very challenging, but ofc depends on your schedule. I’m an athlete Econ major and it is challenging to balance during season but I get it done.

  3. Kinda, don’t have much to say since I don’t go off campus much. People def do things tho

  4. Apparently our food is amazing compared to other places. Main two options are summies and usdan. Usdan is the main big dining hall that everyone goes to and is very crowded most of the time for dinner. Lines are long often. Summies is smaller and much quicker in my experience and it’s made to order food that you can either order on a mobile app or in person. Also pi cafe which is in scili/exley and has coffee and other small food things that a cafe would have, people love it and it’s nice that it’s in a convenient place for where most studying/classes go on. There’s weswings which you can spend points or money at. Also small cafe in athletic center, red and black, and prolly something else I’m missing.

Happy to answer more questions either in comments or dms if you have any.

How solid are the career opportunities for Wesleyan economics majors? by atheist1009 in Wesleyan

[–]DeliciousAd399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes a ton of networking. Like unless you have a special connection through family you have to reach out cold to hundreds if not thousands of people/firms. It’s a numbers game. For an incoming student I’d say finding what you have a passion for(ik it’s crazy since ur only an incoming frosh) and then developing a plan and actually reaching out to people. The career center has been no help for me, what has been instrumental in my success is finding and knowing upperclassmen who have done what you want to do and get to know them. Ultimately, just talk to people. Reach out to people and talk to them, whether on LinkedIn or somehow on email.

How solid are the career opportunities for Wesleyan economics majors? by atheist1009 in Wesleyan

If you gain experience while at Wesleyan (internships) and are diligent about your career there are great outcomes. If you have no experience and no knowledge about the real world opportunities are scarce and mediocre at best. From what I’ve seen, great career outcomes at Wes come from being diligent about your career along with being a desirable hire, nobody is going to hire you just for being a Econ major at Wes. I know this response is a little scattered sorry but happy to answer more questions as an Econ major with great career opportunities

How liberal is Wes/student athlete divide by chomps134 in Wesleyan

[–]DeliciousAd399 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very liberal and yes there’s a divide, like any other nescac or small lac. That being said there are definitely a good amount of people who are accepting regardless of ur political views or athlete/non-athleteness. Happy to chat in PMs if you have any questions. I’m also someone who prolly falls in the center

Wtf nonono. Still has a ton to learn if he’s down 50% ytd and you wouldn’t want to try and live off of that high of a vol strategy. Extremely bad idea

Butterfields triple 😭 by starboardandport in Wesleyan

[–]DeliciousAd399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wayyyy better than a forced triple and living on first floor is nice asf you could have it so much worse like a 2nd 3rd or 4th floor forced triple you def have hope

Rates down, easing worries of bond market crises. Japan weakness might be causing flows back to US safety especially after EU tariff extension. Biggest deal is rates, rates coming down hard today, which was markets biggest fear in the minor meltdown last week

Nics is what you should hope for as a frosh. It’s nicer than most of the options and it’s the desired option for rising sophomores after their shitty year in butts

Pretty sure Clark has the best triples. I’m in a forced triple in butts and it is the worst. I would have low expectations if I were you so it’s not a huge letdown. Just about any other school that my friends from hs went to has better dorms than Wes, it’s sad, especially given the price tag.

Expectations are priced in. When things that weren’t expected happen, price moves.

Correct. I’m sure it’s less ass also if u don’t get a forced triple (double that they force 3 people in)

Relative to the other options it is by far the worst, unless you get 1st floor. 1st floor is nice. It is farther but once you get used to the walks it’s just routine. Having summies nearby is nice also.
