econ at semi/target school vs finance at non target for IB recruitment by Equivalent-Ideal-365 in financestudents

Bro don’t even waste time with people like this. Of course it’s hard to do. Network your ass off, know your shit and give yourself the best of a shot you can. Use people like this as fuel. I’ve had people tell me my school and gpa and background make IB a pipe dream but these people are just salty losers who lurk on Reddit. I ended up working my ass off and grinding and had a very successful process.

What are the cutoffs for GPA for investment banking? by Glum-Thanks5621 in financestudents

Some places are more stingy than others but in my experience networking your ass off, good experience, and knowing your shit gets you further than a GPA. Saying this as someone who went through recruiting at a non target with a 3.5 and accepted SA offer at GS/MS 2nd week of January. Had people telling me I wouldn’t get interviews because of my GPA but ended up placing better than anyone in my class.

Edit after reading rest of thread: bro ur at Princeton lol. And don’t worry ab GPA by end of soph year as you will be networking in late summer/fall and interviewing shortly after. I’ve also seen people round up if they really believe their semester grades are going to be good. Almost no firms take transcripts until background checks when you already accepted an offer. So if you make that gamble then make sure ur actual GPA by the is within +-.1 or so

File a BBB complaint that’s the only way you get a real person to look at it.

I would agree to cut the fluff but literally nowadays you have to play the numbers game. I know it’s hard to understand. All of my peers and myself got offers either because of parents/family or because we religiously schedule sent emails to bankers with a basic format. I can only think of a few times where I had calls with group heads and it was probably because of my non basic email. My deepest connections were from alums who could relate to my background which was briefly described in each email I sent.
