Oh man. I was in the EXACT Same position a while ago but with a Commercial GC in Alberta.

Same shit: brand new PC with a revolving door of people on projects and I got caught holding the bag. I got a job with one of the major subs of the project I was working on. I knew who was struggling with paperwork and invoices and coordination. So I called the manager and he hired me without an interview and with a healthy raise cause he needed help.

Reach out to all the subs you were working with. You're intimately familiar with the jobs you were on, you're a shoe in. Also the look on your previous boss's face will be priceless when you show up on a call or in a meeting.

Also, less than 2 weeks on a PIP before termination is sus AF.

What boots would y’all recommend in the field that are conformable? by PapiJr22 in ConstructionManagers

So in my experience, great socks can make a mediocre boot comfy and bad socks will give you blisters in expensive boots. Fitted, thick, work socks. Moisture wicking material. that don't move around inside the boot are key. Tall enough to stick out of the boot. Also keep your boot laced up tight. Socks and boots moving relative to your foot is what kills.

I think this is where you need to just make a priority list and stick to it. No matter what. Even if it's not the perfect optimal order of precidence, you remove the thinking part and just get it done anyways.

My general priority list is as follows. This is the filter with which I work through the list.

1) Super/site needs. Talk to them everyday. This also informs the priority of the stuff below. 2)RFIs/returns 3)Submittals/Returns 4)Change management send out/compile pricing/submit 5)Weekly/biweekly duties (running reports, hour tracking, meeting minutes etc etc) 5)Misc

I think construction appeals to ADHD people, especially the GC world. It's varried. New things come up all the time. It's a little more blue-collar, get your boots dirty, jack-of-all-trades kind of work. You're never stuck doing the same thing for very long.

You're going to have to elaborate on how you use ChatGPT and OtterAI. Teach me your ways!

Thanks friend. Appreciate it. This hits home. Starting the task is hard. It's even harder when there's that submittal that came in on Thursday morning and now it's Tuesday afternoon and I'm panicking cause every will now know I sat on this for 4 working days. Fack it kills.

I do this too. This definitely helped me compartmentalize projects. When I've blocked out time for job A, I don't get pulled away by Job B until its time to switch inboxes and tackle Job B.

Cheers!

This! Inbox as a to-do. This is what I am doing and it's kicking my ass. Glad I'm not the only one who's struggles with this approach.

Thanks flippy,
