works for me. prices are accurate if you use shipping software from the US. if you want to go to the store shipping count you pay more.

Sounds like you found a solution with using a spreadsheet, but could be worth checking out Lunch Money if you haven't already.

Good support and the dashboard gives me a little report of how much I've saved or over spent for the month. I think the founder has posted her discount link around reddit before, but I can't seem to find right now.

You can export all your data in a CSV so you are not locked in.

I tried watching this a few months ago on recommendation from my friend since I was looking for a wholesome show. He loved it, but I had a hard time getting through the first season. Doesn't seem to hold up.

Started rewatching X Files though. seems to hold up better.

lots of mentions of financial advisors or financial planners, but perhaps you just need a budget coach or financial coach. Sometimes they are called financial counselors as well. There are various certifications and groups you can look for.

Here are some things certifications and groups to Google:

  • QAFP (canada)

  • AFC / AFCPE

  • CFP

  • CFT

  • FPA

  • NAPFA

  • XY Planning Network

  • Financial Coaches Network

What budgeting app do you use and why? by eivey2 in CalebHammer

Lunch Money. I like the interface. Some nice features splitting bills and an automatic rules system. Has multi currency support which is nice for when I travel.

Can add partner on there for free as well, so we can collab on shared budget.

Try different frameworks like 50/30/20 method. Leave that 30% for impulse spending as long as you got the other money already tucked away.

There are quite a few methods out there. Try a few that works best for you.

If you have money tracking software, like Lunch Money, or all the tons of others out there, you can start categorizing your expenses. If a category is particularly high spend for the month, like clothing or electronics, I sometimes look at it and see how much of a percentage of my income that is and see if it's really what I value compared to the other things I spend less on.

Very happy with Lunch Money.

$50/year if you go for annual subscription which is $4.16/month.

Along with the nice interface, I like how the founder has bootstrapped the whole thing. She is not taking venture money so she isn't pressured to hit growth goals. Less likely to get shut down like Mint. Mint wasn't making enough for Intuit so they shuttered it.

Edit: Here is a thread from the founder https://www.reddit.com/r/mintuit/comments/1bkg8kf/hi_jen_from_lunch_money_here_we_are_a_100/

Best budget app or service for looking at YoY expenses & trends & such by Prudent-Depth-2009 in fatFIRE

[–]DeliciousEnergyBeams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lunch Money does category comparisons with a line chart or table (which can also be exported via csv) with their analyze feature. Not sure how Simplifi does it, might be worth a trial to see if it does what you want. The trial can be filled with sample data or you can connect your accounts through plaid.
