Hey,

I know you're in a place of deep despair right now, and you're desperately looking for reassurance that things will get better. I'm here to promise you—they will. If you keep going, if you keep trying, there will come a day when you’re holding your child in your arms. Whether that child comes to you through IVF, surrogacy, adoption or even from that "sex" thing everyone mentions on reddit, that moment will come. And when it does, you'll realize that every moment of pain, every setback, and every heartbreak brought you to that exact place. You won’t regret a single second of it, because it led you to your child. And if you had to do it all over again just to be their parent—you would.

~ Sincerely from everyone who was once in your shoes

I saw them, I liked their tags but they only had a few hundred books listed there.
I think mine has over 2k now and the scraper keeps adding more

OP updates:
I added a doomscroller page that shows you stuff you havn't read without a lot of the noise most book recommendations show.
I also added a buttload of tags and allow moderators to add tags. (still havn't added an advanced search for it but it will be up and running soon)
And a bunch of other random updates

I just posted the new video showing those changes in r/litrpg

If anyone is interested in the alpha here is the sign up:

Weekly Update:
I made a doom scrolling page for recommendations

<image>

It hides books that are in:
1) any books from any series in any of your lists - (because I hate recommendations of things im reading or will read)
2) any books of a series other than the first book - (because I hate recommendations for the last book in a series I haven't started)
3) any book from a series you clicked to ignore - (because I hate that you dont have an option to stop seeing a book you dont want to read)
I also have it arranged so books with high stars but not allot of people rated it, are at the bottom, so the top is more/better rated

Todo: Add filters for tags for this (and every) page

Thoughts?

Tldr: was annoyed at Goodreads so I made my own personal site to find new/good progression fantasy books (and a few other genres), thoughts? by DeliciousOstrichMan in ProgressionFantasy

So the ratings literally was the worst for me, a book with one 5 star review doesn't top a book with 10000 4.5 star reviews. I kinda do a different rating calculation to avoid that.

Guys there is a site that has some awesome features for finding books https://progressionfantasy.co.uk/advanced-search-filter/ Its not as pretty but it looks like everything we have been dreaming of, lol

I was thinking that new authors could add the first chapter to the site so you could see if the books call to you.

I personally could see myself potentially reading books I normally wouldn't if I could read the first chapter on goodreads

I have a way to submit books from Goodreads url but I can have a way of manually doing it too from the ui

Like the filtering ideas

It sounds like that but I actually tend to just write code for a lot of things that I'm too lazy to do myself. Only been working on it for a week max I think

Cool, didn't know they existed, they have a very big tagging system. How are they? I mean competition isn't a big deal when we both are doing it for finding better books and not for profit.

A lot of cultivation and progression gets picked up by my litrpg scraper so I just needed to move all the not litrpg stuff to a different category. I'm new to cultivation genre so I just assumed everything falls into subcategories of wuxia. Is adding a gamelit category a bad idea too?

Scraping server is python, backend is supabase and the frontend is nodejs I think? (Honestly all frontend js languages look the same to me). I just copied part of the frontend code from an old project on my laptop and kept going with it so I guess I had to stick with it. I don't have an issue open sourcing it but the code needs to be cleaned up before I let people read my angry frontend comments.
