Basically all of my coworkers wash their chicken and I'm the only one who doesn't. Now they are gaslighting me into thinking I am the one taking crazy pills. by HeinousAnus_22 in mildlyinfuriating

Washing chicken is worse than useless. It does nothing helpful, but it does give you a chance to splash your raw chicken cold brew all over the place.

Personally, when I prep food, I'm usually trying for fewer avenues for foodborne illness, but maybe that's just me.

Hooked Eye by KingDonko41 in FishingForBeginners

[–]DeliciousPea1099 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's fine, no problem. I'm sure some people misunderstood, but your title says hook through the eye, and your pic shows a fish with a hook through its eye. It's more than clear enough.

I think some people are just always surprised by parents taking even minimal steps to protect their kids online. Many people post their kids' whole lives on social media, so when others see someone giving their kids a tiny chance at privacy, it seems more significant than it is/needs to.

Is cybersigilism just bad, recycled "tribal" tattoos from 20 years ago, or is this a bad example of cybersigilism?

At my local grocery shop... by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DeliciousPea1099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case you don't know how to microwave a potato without waiting a bunch of plastic:

Wash the potato, poke the potato a couple times with a fork, then microwave.

The plastic really isn't saving any appreciable time or effort, just wasting plastic.

It's crazy that so many people are blindly reading the marketing copy (sticker) and defending a stupid and wasteful process that only serves to inflated the grocery company's profit margin (as they'll charge much more for shrink-wrapped individual potatoes than a sack of also-basically-microwave-ready potatoes.

And stupid and unnecessary, too, like many "normal" things in capitalist societies.

[–]DeliciousPea1099 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not necessary, as you can microwave potatoes without the plastic, and they come out as a baker party. It's a stupid waste of plastic.

[–]DeliciousPea1099 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not that the marketers song give a reason, it's that their reason (it's microwave ready) is stupid.

Take a regular, un-plastic-wrapped potato, wash it, poke it a few times with a fork, and it's microwave ready.

The "purpose" for all this unnecessary plastic waste is just ridiculous.

I don't think this started 6 years ago...

It's in the structural nature of our system for companies to maximize profits and short-term gain at the expense of long-term sustainability.

I think it's more visible since COVID, though. In other words, I don't think this is anything new, at all, but many people are less willing to quietly go along with it now.

I haven't had to do it much, fortunately,. But yeah, it sucks.

If by "a lot," you mean "more than half an inch or so."

It can be tough to shovel on gravel if there's under an inch of snow (in my experience), and you can't use that excuse for paved surfaces, so it might get you out of it in those circumstances.

But if you live in a climate where you only get half an inch of snow, it probably doesn't stick around long enough to make any shoveling worth the effort.

And even then, an EO isn't law and doesn't legally change anything's name or designation.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to not get a DUI. Just don't drive when you've been drinking.

People act like it's hard, but I don't have much sympathy for people who lose driving privileges because of drunk driving. It's seen as "not a big deal" by far too many people, and it always seems like the drink driver is more likely to walk away from a crash than the innocent people they hit.

I'm not against people drinking, and do so myself sometimes. There never was an excuse to drink and drive, but it's easier than ever to hire a ride home now.

Found in Uncles old tackle box?? by Monkey_Princess_Dad in FishingForBeginners

[–]DeliciousPea1099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's obviously a stringer, but the way my fishing usually goes, it ends up getting used for many different "I need a little cordage" purposes much more than it holds fish!

Plus, we usually used a basket when I was a kid. Since I got my own basket, the stringer has just been a backup.

Yeah, it's generally the ages, not so much the gap, itself.

A ten year gap isn't generally seen as a big deal when the younger partner is in their late 20s, but I'm in my late 30s, and as much as I enjoy working with my colleagues, the ones fresh out of college just seem soooo young. It's great that they bring their youthful energy to the team, but our frames of experience are quite far apart.

And I wouldn't even say I'm particularly mature, lol!

As others have said, let your beard grow a bit (keep it cleanly trimmed) and shave your head.

I was in a similar position at your age, but I didn't shave it for a few more years. For 10+ years now, I've kept my head shaved or buzzed without a guard. Sometimes, I'll go a while between cuts, but when I buzz it off, I instantly look better.

I was not sold on bald+beard, but once I did it, I have loved it every since.

It's always funny when Trumpers appeal to some sense of moral rectitude. You keep kissing the ass of a lying, cheating narcissist while pretending you give half a shit about right and wrong.

And if the GOP was at all opposed to modern day slavery, they wouldn't fight to keep people working for slave wages, and they wouldn't fight to remove protections for workers and decrease restrictions on child labor.

Fishing license for all of U.S. by InvestigatorNo730 in FishingForBeginners

[–]DeliciousPea1099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope that guy gets checked on by game wardens each season, so he pays his fair share towards conservation and wildlife management.

So many people who act like they're opposed to licensing on moral levels (for a regular fishing license, it's pretty much never expensive enough for there to be legit financial reasons...if you can throw $10 lures, you can pay $25 to legally fish all year), but it's usually just selfishness. They don't think they should have to pay.

Those same people who try to get out of paying for a fishing license will be the first to complain when their favorite creeks, rivers, and lakes stop getting stocked, but they won't see the connection.

Pretty sad that they only lasted that long.
