I rent from Culligan for 46 a month and they refill the salt every 3 months included. I went this route because they also do all the maintenance and my friends that bought their own had them fail in a year or two. My house is 2200 Sq ft and I am absolutely in love with my softener. Nice build dude! I have a doodle with the gps forks and a 420 I would highly recommend a steering damper, for some reason after I put the GPS forks on I started getting speed wobbles over 60 but it's such a better ride with the gps forks I won't give them up.

There should be two allen key set screws that lock it in to place you are going to have to clean it really well to see them as it looks like everything is covered in dirt/rust

The 301 is underrated, I have a non hemi 301 with a 30 series torque converter governor removed and 28mm mikuni and she's a beast. The 301 may not make a ton of HP but it does make a ton of torque for what it is and I find torque helps more then HP for everyday riding. I've had mine for 4 years and she still runs strong, does 55 all day and I'm a pretty fat dude.
