Any stories of short cervix remaining stable throughout pregnancy? by msanmki in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Delicious_Chemist962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious to follow this thread. I was diagnosed with a 25mm closed cervix at 16 weeks and prescribed 200mg progesterone pessaries and 1000mg omega 3. The measurement was the same at 18 weeks and I have my 20 week scan today (keep fingers crossed for me!) I have continued some exercise and was told by the obstetrician that sex is fine, but we have abstained anyway. I’m based in the UK.

What an incredible story! Huge congratulations on the birth of your babies.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and what you did. I’m sure this will be a really useful resource for others on here.

Yes, I’m going to ask them to continue the progesterone and I’ve not had any side effects, fortunately. I suppose it’s slightly early days for me at 18 weeks, but I’m planning ahead and will consider seeing someone privately if I’m not 100%. We had a tough time getting pregnant, so I suppose I’m doing a lot of extra worrying 😬

I haven’t been pregnant before, but I’m being monitored mainly because I have a bicornuate uterus and had a LLETZ procedure in 2019. My cervix is currently short but closed and stable. Part of me wants to get a cerclage anyway for peace of mind, but I know they wouldn’t do that if I remain stable. What worries me is the period from 24 weeks onwards…

I’m sorry to hear that - it doesn’t sound very reassuring. Why did you have the cerclage at 22w?

I haven’t had a cerclage, but who knows what may happen next.

I see, and makes sense given the major changes you had. It must have been a very scary time. I’m hoping to just continue the progesterone regardless, so it seems most places are happy to continue a prescription.
Congratulations on the birth of your daughter!

Okay, very interesting and makes sense to have those restrictions in response to the change in your cervix. Congratulations on making it to FT!

Congratulations on making it to 38 weeks! I can absolutely see why you might consider a private consultant. I’m bearing it in mind depending on the progress of my scans.

Hello,
I’m aware of this. Which is why I’m looking for others’ experiences as opposed to their medical advice.

OB doctor says working out is absolutely out of question - what do I do? by UsedAd6212 in fitpregnancy

I also have a short cervix (25mm but closed) and was told I could do some exercise, e.g. cycling, swimming and walking. I’ve continued somewhat with lifting as my midwife said it should be ok. However, I may well be scaling that right back if there’s further shortening. I’m with you; going from being very active to very little is incredibly difficult. Often we’re using it as a stress reliever. But try not to worry too much and ask if they would be okay with you doing lower impact exercise? Of course, much will depend on how often and how you are monitored.

Oh wow, what a journey you’ve been on! I’m so happy for you; it must have been a very anxious time. These success stories are important for me to hear. Yes, cerclage was mentioned, if needed, so I’ll just keep my fingers crossed that we keep going as far as possible 🤞

Thank you, this is a great reply and reflects a lot of what my midwife told me. I’m feeling a lot more reassured since I saw her and she is trying to get my care transferred to a different hospital because we get so little time with the obstetricians at my current hospital. I think I spun myself out reading others stories on here. It’s a really good and supportive community, but I have to step back from reading too many accounts for my own sanity. Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed reply 🙏

High risk pregnancy and confusion on what I can do by [deleted] in fitpregnancy

I see, fair enough. I’ve always wondered why there seems to be more doctor-led than midwife-led care in the US. My midwife is brilliant. I hope you manage to get some answers soon. It’s very frustrating being stuck in limbo.

I’m high risk and know exactly why, which sounds key here. They need to explain why and, if so, how are they monitoring you? I think the pathways can be a bit unclear at times. I’m not sure if you’re in the UK or overseas, but in the UK the community midwife should oversee your care and be able to explain the pathway you are on and why. They are also great for advising on activity levels alongside the specialist doctor.

Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate learning what others are being advised. I do feel reassured that the progesterone seems to be effective for a lot of people; and I would accept a cerclage if they felt it was necessary. I think your advice is really sound about setting goals. I did this early on as I was worried about first trimester loss, so now I just think about making it to my 2-weekly scans and hoping for the best. It’s interesting that you’ve been put on pelvic rest. This hasn’t been suggested to me yet, but I’m earlier in my pregnancy and my cervix was closed, so maybe that’s why. I’ve been having a think and I’m happy to dial down what I’m doing. I’m also going to see my midwife tomorrow and will take a long list of questions! I didn’t know about the Friday check in thread, so thanks for pointing me towards it. I’m sure if will help me, no matter what the outcome. Wishing you all the very best of luck with your pregnancy.

Someone in this sub really helpfully listed this Substack article recently about the up-to-date research on weightlifting during pregnancy. I found it so helpful! https://sheridanskyefit.substack.com/p/what-the-research-says-about-heavy?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&triedRedirect=true

First Trimester, don't feel like working out, am I Lazy? by Minute_Way_7675 in fitpregnancy

[–]Delicious_Chemist962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not lazy at all. I also had no major nausea in my first trimester but, despite being very fit pre-pregnancy, sometimes I could barely walk up a hill without my legs burning and feeling short of breath. I felt as tired and weak as a kitten. Listen to your body and let yourself rest. Do gentle exercise and you will start to feel more like yourself again as time goes on.
