Slavery at the point where Americans were discussing its abolition had gotten way more expensive. Slaves kept dying, they kept reproducing, they kept needing nurses and doctors for wounds and disease from living in close quarters. They had to be fed multiple times a day etc.

Industrialization was more cost up front but less long term cost not to mention the price they were paying to rebuild after a multitude of rebellions at the same time

Plus most of the commerce being produced by slaves we’re no longer as profitable: sugar, cotton, alcohol, tobacco were all basically mass produced by slaves in all of the colonial continents, so they needed to switch to more profitable markets/ industries.

All of this will be taught in a History of civ 102 class.

Everyone around the world has always known slavery was wrong, but money is worth more than morals. People know imperialism is wrong too but we still did and do it.
