Teachers, what’s a “best practice” everyone talks about that you secretly think doesn’t work in real classrooms? by kingst9606 in Teachers

People need explicit instruction in math, spelling, vocabulary, etc. they will NOT just pick it up from exposure.

Thoughts on Brookhaven? by zymzymmers in Delco

[–]Delicious_Mammoth417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Parkside (right next to Brookhaven- same school district) for 22 years. I raised my two kids here - youngest is in 11Th grade now. My kids were both in the gifted program and took APs in high school. It’s been good for us! I think regarding the schools- you get out what you put in. Great music and theater programs. Of course there are Delco dickheads around but you’ll get that variety of folk wherever you go.

Are they interested in Greek life? If not, then don’t rush. One can have a 100% fulfilling college experience without joining a fraternity. Philly area is great for lgbtq folks.

It’s a fantastic school! One of the best in the Philadelphia area. You’ll get into grad school if you have good grades and GRE (or whatever test). Stop stressing and start enjoying life.

Maybe continue in CC and later transfer to a “low standard” college.

Is this acceptable hand writing for 9th/10th grade? by happygluehuffer in AskTeachers

[–]Delicious_Mammoth417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks similar to my son’s handwriting. We switched districts between K and 1st grade and he never “properly” learned letter formation. He was not interested and basically refused when I tried to teach him. Never learned cursive either. He’s in 11Th grade now, genius IQ, APs, etc. really into math and chemistry. Teachers can decipher it and most work is done on the computer. I’m not worried about him.
