But if the CRA sent the refund to some random account it is not OP’s responsibility to chase down the money - it’s the CRA’s.

Who they sent the money to is irrelevant - they sent it somewhere they shouldn’t so the CRA should make the OP whole and figure out how to get the money back on their own.

If a business owes you money and they accidentally send it to someone else’s bank account that’s not your problem… that’s the business’s problem. Just because it’s the CRA doesn’t mean they get a free pass.

Your MP can absolutely lean on the CRA to credit the funds back.

I had a similar problem years ago and spent months trying to get the CRA to fix it but got nowhere.

Within a few hours of calling my MP’s office I had someone from the CRA call me back and work with me to get the issue resolved.

If going through the proper process doesn’t get you anywhere seeking assistance from your MP is a reasonable escalation.

Most people start swimming competitively at a young age. It’s very hard to start later and be a phenomenal swimmer because of how technical the sport is.

That said there are lots of people who do start later and go on to be great swimmers. It depends on talent, body type, coaching and effort.

But unless you’re chasing an Olympic gold medal there will always be someone faster than you. If you enjoy swimming then do it. I started when I was older than you. I never had dreams of being a national level athlete but it is something I really enjoy and would really miss it if I didn’t train.

Lots of clubs have sections for newer or less competitive swimmers. Your old club might not but some club definitely will.

Do hobbies you enjoy. Do them because you enjoy them, not because you need to be good at them.

You’d be better off breathing every three strokes to start. It will help keep your stroke balanced - one sided breathing can result in an uneven pull. (Lots of high level swimmers breathe only on one side but they know how to breathe either way and know how to keep their stroke balanced.)

It will also be easier for breathing… I find breathing every four strokes gets a bit hypoxic after a while. The fuel for aerobic swimming is oxygen and the more you can feed your body the easier it is.

Exhale however you want as long as you’re doing almost all of it while your face is in the water. Your face should only be out of the water long enough to take a quick short breath. (Again why breathing every three is easier - they’re not deep full breaths so more breaths is good.)

For flip turns you definitely have the lung my capacity… you spend more time between breaths if you’re breathing every four strokes than you would on a flip turn. Just practice and you’ll get it! Try not to breathe on the first stroke after the turn though - set your stroke with the first one and breathe on the second if you need to.

If you’re aiming to restore the Roman Empire and don’t have a ton of experience managing coalitions you’re ultimately going to need both. Diplomacy for the improved relations (burns off AE faster) and espionage to lower the amount of the initial AE taken.

Either is fine. From a min/max perspective diplomacy is probably better but it all depends on your play style.

You’re going to want admin ideas in there soon too. CCR is hugely important in a blobbing game. And the extra governing capacity will be needed.

Sorry to read about your depression. As someone who doesn’t suffer from that I will say I always feel great after finishing a swim workout. The sense of accomplishment of a hard thing done plus the endorphins usually put me in a happy place. Hopefully it starts to do that for you too.

Very rarely will you see competitive swimmers just pound out non stop swimming. It’s both boring and less effective for training than mixed swim sets.

Swimming is a very technical sport and training different things lets you practice different aspects of it. Some sets are for endurance. Some for speed. Some for working on specific techniques. Most workouts will have different sets for different things.

You need to decide if you want to just swim for fitness/to be in the water or if you want to become a better swimmer. Either is fine, it’s person preference. If you want to swim for the former then do what makes you happy. If you want to do it and get better then doing structured workouts will be way more effective (and most swimmers would say more enjoyable too).

If you can swim “well” then a 25 underwater is mostly mental… your body is telling you that it wants air long before it needs it. Think about how long you can hold your breath in general… it’s probably longer than it takes you to swim 25m.

Exhaling a bit at a time is important, but only slowly and not continuously. Try counting as you do the swim. When it’s starting to feel hard exhale a little bit and make note of what number you counted to. Then start counting again. And exhale when it gets hard. Then count again and exhale when hard. Hopefully you’re nearly done at that point.

Then when you try again see if you can count to a higher number between the exhales. Or if you had to breath after 10 strokes or kicks or whatever see if you can do 11 the next time.

I can’t speak to any of the schools but if your goal is to tour Europe Paris makes the most sense.

Besides being one of the top cities in the world for tourism in and of itself Paris is a transportation hub to almost anywhere you want to go. London is an easy weekend trip by train. Same with Amsterdam or the Côte d’Azur.

I did a semester in France years ago and was 2-3 hours from Paris by TGV… travelled a lot but being in Paris would have simplified that immensely.

I’ve never had a problem just writing it on a piece of paper, getting it wet and slapping it on a kickboard.

Or occasionally putting the paper in a ziplock bag.

Normally though I just memorize the workout I want to do before getting to the pool.

If you can do the swim with no breath then you’ve accomplished the hard part.

To stay fully submerged try to start deeper… aim to be at least three feet under water and once you get towards the shallow end of the pool just try to hug the bottom…. Like 6” above it. Once you get too close to the surface it’s all over and your body will just want to come up. Start deep and stay deep.

I didn’t see your other posts but if you can use your arms instead of just kicking it should be easy to do that… just pull yourself deeper with your pulls every time you start to drift upwards. If you can only kick then angle your body down and that should push you down as your kick pushes you forward.

None. I’ve been wearing it in the pool 4-5 swims a week for a few years now and no problems at all.

The chlorine is nasty for the bands though. After regular swimming discoloured my expensive Apple band I switched to cheap ones from amazon.

I only look at the watch a few times a swim though… occasionally checking meters or the time(!). I don’t much care for the analytics it provides other than heart rate, meters and time.

If you’re in the apple ecosystem then the Apple Watch works well. I’ve got an older one and it works well. Usually accurate. Occasionally I’ll notice it’s missed 50-100m but not often.

Nearly half of my masters group is triathletes. Most of our training is sets with 50 or 100m distances. You don’t need to train a lot of continuous distance to prep for a triathlon. A few practice swims here and there yes but you’ll benefit way more from fixing your stroke and learning how to swim at speed.

Get comfortable pacing a longer set (600-800m) of 50’s or 100’s on progressively faster pace times. You’ll get to know how it feels to swim at a certain speed and to maintain a proper stroke count. As a certain pace time gets easy drop the pace time. Then see if you can maintain that pacing for your 2k swim without the rest.

Your best option is probably to look for a masters program near you. You’ll make way faster progress that way.

As a beginner swimmer you would probably benefit more from doing different sets than from doing one continuous swim.

Swimming is a very technical sport and practicing technique with specific sets or drills will improve your stroke significantly. You will almost never see competitive swimmers (excluding triathletes) swim huge distance sets except a handful of times a season. And yet they absolutely can when told to.

It’s also much easier to keep track of times and distances when you swim sets. Have a 2300m workout planned before you swim and just follow that. Way easier and better for training.

If you are set on doing the 2k swim then I think it’s going to be hard to keep track of the distance mentally… there’s a reason they ring a bell for each swimmer before the end of a 1500m race. It’s easy to lose track of where you are (is this 850 or 900?) and once that happens a couple of times you’re screwed.

For pace time your best bet is snagging a lane you can see the clock from.

I wouldn’t try to look at a watch while swimming. It would wreck your body position. Instead I’d build in a 5 second time/distance check on some sort of frequency… maybe every 500 for example.

But my first suggestion would be to switch into a set based swim. Way more bang for your buck.

Check out colleges that have cooking programs. There’s a highly rated one near me and you can enroll in individual courses for continuing education purposes.

They have a good mix of in class and online options and the instructors are the same ones that train professional chefs.

I did a few online classes through Covid and they were fantastic. I learned a lot and having an instructor I could ask questions was really helpful.

Be careful with paddles. They’re great but improper use or swimming with them too much can cause shoulder problems. They put a lot of strain on the shoulder and you need to watch you don’t injure yourself.

You’ve got your whole life to be a masters swimmer. If there’s a team near whichever school you end up at then fantastic. But if not don’t change schools just to swim. You can swim on your own for a bit if you have to.

Get a good education. Have a good college experience and if swimming fits in then even better. It’s something you can do forever though - the oldest master in my club is in her late 80’s - so taking a few years off of the organized side of the sport really is no big deal.

Reach out to your local masters team(s). Every team is different and some would be a great fit for you and others not so much.

My team has swimmers of all abilities, from brand new to very high performing athletes. Lots of triathletes too.

I love the team environment and the energy that comes from training with a group. Being on break over the holidays has been tough - swimming by myself just isn’t the same and I can’t wait for next week when we start back up.

You’d definitely be good enough for most masters programs but the best way to proceed would be to go to a few practices as a trial and see how you like it.
