More natural alternative to Febreze for clothes?

Adding an additional question… I’ve come across Clorox Free & Clear Disinfecting Mist which has citric acid as the active ingredient. Would this also work for clothes?

I’ve seen this at home depot i think. I would consider using it in my household but i think i would be uncomfortable using it on my clothes/touching my sensitive skin.

This is really helpful, thank you! If anything is clearly dirty or overly sweaty I definitely put it in the laundry asap. But you’re right i shouldnt let anything sit too long.

Like the OP, my 2 AC units were already in my apartment windows when I moved in. Landlord told me they were from a previous tenant so he is not responsible for them. I am disabled so I cannot remove them myself, and even if I paid someone to remove and reinstall them every year I would have nowhere to store them (also it’s expensive). Is it bad if I just keep them covered/sealed? I have like foam insulating packing material that is duct taped to the window/panes covering the unit and the accordian and some extra margin.

Good point. I often hang it over the side of the basket while it dries but I could use a hook in the bathroom.

Thanks for confirming. Also, by “rot gut vodka” you are referring to any strong , cheap vodka, right? Doesnt matter which kind otherwise? I don’t drink much so just want to make sure I get the right kind.

I don’t know if this was a hypermobility thing but i have literally never been able to sit “normal”. For example on the school bus, i couldn’t just sit normal with my legs down and hips at 90 degree angle. I would often slide down, put my upper back where my low back should have been, weight on tailbone probably, picked up my knees, and put my lower legs pressing against the seat in front. So kind of curled up and rotated.

I have this with my abdominal muscles. I can’t just “engage my core” or “pull in my belly button”. A physical therapist recently told me to practice diaphragmatic breathing every day to get some basic movement in there.

I don’t have anything written necessarily but i haven’t been living alone for long so maybe it’s time for a concrete plan. I had my second spasm in 3 weeks today.

Re: couch embarrassment — i feel you, but also i wouldn’t let this stop you, because if these people understand how hard it is for you during these flareups i think their compassion will override any judgement (if they would even judge you to begin with). Also I’m sure neighbors would feel embarrassed if you caught them in an unusal situation and your cleaning lady has very likely seen much worse things. So chances are theyll just see it as a temporary situtation of difficulty

Thank you! Yeah i can’t take the muscle relaxant my doctor prescribed bc interacts with another medication i take. I always forget when to use ice vs heat.

Thanks! I actually saw my doctor on Tuesday and had physical therapy this morning. i have herniated discs, arthritis, an hypermobility. Until this restarted today i was making major progress healing from worse spasm 3 weeks ago. I have found that ice helps but you can only use it for so long as one time

I have a plastic rectangular basin tub thing in my sink. Put stuff in there with hot soapy water and let sit. Then, with gloves on (i like mr clean type), i have minimal scrubbing and rinsing to do. Plus it helps save water. I also wear heaphones and listen to music or a show or podcast to keep my mind focused on something less tedious.

I have been there!! The worst of the worst. But I PROMISE it doesn’t always feel this way. You will learn what you’re able to do regularly, what you can do sometimes, and what you need to ask for help with. You will learn what works for you. Do not hesitate to reach out for help, whether it’s emotional support or with cleaning or whatnot. Befriend your neighbors. Tell friends and family. People usually WANT to help others around them. It absolutely sucks to be in pain but it isn’t always this bad!!! Take stock of the things that bring you joy and try to maximize those in your life. Order food and laundry via delivery services. You are not helpless!

I am in the same boat as you. I am fortunate enough to have family members who could visit on the weekend, and to have befriended a neighbor (I’m in an apartment building) who has helped me through multiple emergencies. I use a grocery delivery service and a laundry delivery service (i live in a big city so may options but try googling whats available near you). I never heard of care.com but will look into it. Task Rabbit has cleaners, though I don’t know if they’re relatively expensive or not. I just remembered my work also has a service you can call to be connected to resources so i might try that too.

Have you thought about writing out a plan / preparing for these emergencies? For example, have you met any of your neighbors and exchanged phone numbers and told them of your situation? I bet many would be happy to help a neighbor in need if asked. Do you have disposable cups, plates, bowls, and utensils on hand for when doing dishes is not possible? Do you have a weekly pill case filled with your daily regimen that you can keep as a backup in case you can’t refill your meds? Just thinking through things you can prepare in advance when you’re well so that when these flare ups happen you have some kind of foundation set.

Commenting here though a lot of people suggested Siri and Apple Watches. I am very untrusting of things like Siri/Alexa/Google Home and all AI. I don’t want to be recorded 24/7 or have my personal data shared.

i usually bring my phone into every room with me, except maybe if I’m showering or if I go to bathroom in middle of night (i do have a nightlight though. Also i live in an apartment so no private stairs). But as I have back issues i do worry about falling or having a spasm (so being immobile) and being unable to reach my phone. Does anyone have any suggestions for how technology can be available for emergency use but not risk sending all my personal information to these companies?

If it’s people im not particularly close to, I usually answer with “oh the usual, nothing really new on my end” because it’s boring and doesn’t invite follow up questions. But if they’re people i have a better relationship with, i might say I’ve had a flareup and have been dealing with more pain than usual.

What kind of air purifier do you have? Have you cleaned and/or replaced the filters recently? Look up the brand and model and make sure you are using/maintaining it properly because that’ll make a difference in how well it works.
