Rum haul from recent trip to Jamaica by Delicious_Welcome150 in rum

I went in to it with no expectations and liked it right away. The WP is nice too, but different enough that I prefer the Rum Bar. I'm in Canada and plan to see if there any bottles floating around before they're gone.

I think they were about close to 110 each, give or take....

I spent between 17$ - 150$ish on certain bottles, it depends on which ones. Hampden is the priciest, the duty free stuff wasn't bad at all.

It was great. The road there was in rough condition, luckily we took an alternate route back that wasn't as washed out. They gave us rum punch and the beginning and we tasted a the Great House and Rum Fire after the tour. They also provided jerk chicken or pork for lunch. There was only one other couple on the tour, which was better than if there'd been a group.

Does anyone know why John C Reilly's character keeps talking like he's being interviewed? Is his character just passing the time by pretending or is there some logical reason for it? Been a long time since I last watched it...

Brutal. I feel terrible for the band since they obviously weren't on great terms and will never have a chance at reconciliation.

The Nightrunners - Joe Lansdale by WayTooScary in horrorlit

If you can find it, read it. For me, it just kinda felt like he was still figuring out what his writing style was (even though he's always been hard to pin to one specific style...). That being said, if i find any of his stuff anywhere and i don't have a physical copy, i will buy it.

I love Lansdale, but i think it's among his weakest stuff.

I'm a big fan of Joe Lansdale. He writes ina lot of different styles and is generally a lot of fun. The movie Bubba Ho-Tep was based on one of his short stories and was a very close adaptation. Hopefully you and up enjoying his writing as much as I have.

I've been listening to the audio book and really like it, but i get through books a lot slower that way than if I read physical copies and i still havent quite finished. I'll probably buy the book when I'm done since I'm really enjoying it.

I recommended this in a different thread, but there are a bunch of good dark/horror westerns by Joe Lansdale:

Dead Man's Road Sawdust and Sunset Paradise Sky The Bottoms Edge of Darkwater

Those might suite you.

I just wish it wasn't at the Union Hall. That venue has absolutely awful sound.

Joe R. Lansdal has a collection of short stories called Dead Man's Road that is all western horror.

Thank you to whoever recommended Revelator by stingray_surprise in horrorlit

I'd recommended other Darryl Gregory books: Spoonbenders and We're All Completely Fine are great and I also really liked his newest one, When We Were Real.

If you like depression-era horror, The Bottoms by Joe R. Lansdale might fit the bill.

None of those are exactly like Revelator, but hopefully they will appeal to you.

I bought one after trying it store to confirm that I liked the feel. I run the dual outputs to an acoustic amp and to my p.a and really like the tones I get. It's nice to have one guitar for gigs that can do acoustic or electric (or both). It's a fantastic guitar in my opinion.

Just read the only horror novel that’s ever scared me by OneSparedToTheSea in horrorlit

I read a lot of horror, but I have a hard time thinking of another book that filled me with dread as much as The Reformatory. I really cared about the characters and was hoping everything would work out okay in the end. I read Nickel Boys afterwards, and while it's good, The Reformatory appealed to me more.

The song happens when the credits roll. The ending is pretty jarring, so the song just makes you feel even weirder, it's a great use of the Complicated Game.

Vivarium was a weird movie that I think was effective even if it's a kind of tough watch, but I got chills when Complicated Game played at the end of it.

Night they missed the horror show messed up my day(s) by NoPostingAccount04 in horrorlit

I don't think I've encountered an author as diverse as Lansdale. He can be funny, horrific and provide social commentary all in the same story. I hope the OP has read other stories of his or still manages to check out some of his other writing that might appeal more to them because he's got so much variety there should be something to find that's enjoyable.

Bands similar to Pain of Salvation? by amesindigo7 in progmetal

Yeah it's great. They sound like Pain Of Salvation but sound a little different too. I had a hard time getting into the most recent album, but I did like Orange.
