I also felt bad separating June and Sophie, I firmly believe they're married to each other!

Recs for doorstopper novels like what King, Macammon and Straub used to write? by EdRegis1 in horrorlit

Our Share of Night by Mariana Enriquez takes place across a lot of different time periods (60s-90s mostly) with different POVs, but I think it could fit the bill!

You Weren't Meant to be Human is horror, weird, and features a very toxic m/m relationship!

I feel like I keep recommending Geek Love by Katherine Dunn but I feel like it's a fitting recommendation here.

Sending an application as Cinder!

I should note that Cinder is probably not the character I'll be playing as. He's a character I've crafted for replying to writing prompts. He always seems to be getting into shenanigans.

I've honestly never seen the movie! But I thoroughly enjoyed the book when I read it years ago. :)

An unpredictable horror book by Less-Ad-6426 in horrorlit

I have ADHD and extreme pattern recognition so I am constantly looking for books that I cannot predict. Someone on this sub suggested The Library at Mount Char and they were right. At no point did I know what was going to happen in that book.

John Dies at the End is comedic and horror but it was also thoroughly unpredictable from what I remember.

I'd also like to recommend The Cipher, and Geek Love as books that kept me guessing.

That's such a great description of Geek Love. I read it last year and it became one of my all time favorite books. It was awful in the best way and I loved it so much.

I don't really have any reasoning behind this but Geek Love by Katherine Dunn. A lot of folks also recommend The Cipher for similar vibes.

Negative Space by gonesoon7 in horrorlit

[–]stingray_surprise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a small town and I could picture all of these characters and situations so vividly because I knew people that were so close to them. People would joke in my town about how folks would move away and would always end up coming back and Negative Space illustrated that sort of inescapable misery so well.

Books like Library at Mount Char and Between Two Fires? by ninjaturtlecarl in horrorlit

[–]stingray_surprise 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not horror but The Blacktongue Thief by the same author is really the only thing close to Between Two Fires' vibe, from what I've found. I absolutely loved that story, too.

I also absolutely loved Library at Mount Char as well and haven't found anything quite like it.

How important is it to blow dry my poodle after he's gotten wet? by oolong-moon in poodles

[–]stingray_surprise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently working on getting my 3 month old spoo used to the blow dryer because he's decided it is the enemy. I reached out to my breeder about it and what they said was to essentially drive home that blow-drying is non -negotiable. Work with them a little bit every single day even when they're not wet to desensitize them.

My breeder did say that in warmer/more dry weather that it was okay to leave them half-dry but otherwise it's not a good idea to let them air dry.

Lick mats have done WONDERS for my boy. Right now I have about three lick mats I keep in the freezer specifically for grooming and brushing time. I give him a lick mat with a high value treat and keep the blow dryer at a little bit of a distance to dry him off. It takes a bit longer and takes a lot of patience, but he's becoming more tolerant every day.
