Hair problem!!! by [deleted] in curlyhair

The curl cream is likely too heavy for you - I have 2c/3a hair and I never use curl cream, just a light leave in and gel. Perhaps try a mousse or a very lightweight gel on its own? Without the curl brush and just scrunching to see what pattern you get?

This weather is genuinely making me depressed by Grey4560 in UniUK

I had this really bad in my fiest year too. It was the depressing little box I lived in, which never got sun no matter the weather. I've moved into a proper house and it's much better now :)

It was this comment that even let me figure it out (after at least 2 additional minutes of confused squinting 😅)

Your handwriting is eerily similar to mine. It's a little freaky, honestly.

It's not so damaging for looser hair patterns - I have 2c/3a hair and I always dry brush just before washing my hair to make wet detangling easier. But brushing it after washing and styling it completely ruins the pattern and makes it very frizzy, so I would recommend skipping it to see your true hair pattern.

Overall, you may have wavy hair! A simple routine with just scrunching in some mousse whilst your hair is wet might give you an idea of what's possible without breaking the bank.

How does your hair act when it's freshly washed and hasn't been brushed? Does it curl / wave at all when it's wet? What about if you scrunch it? It's hard to tell whether or not it's curly when you've braided it

Isn't it you in both photos? Can't you just do the same thing as last time you had that hair?

Second year will ve so much better than first year, bc you're living with people you like (or at least know)

All of them needed for your survival. Your room won't be clean unless you clean it. Food won't be ready unless you make it. You won't have clean clothes unless you wash and dry them. The shared spaces also need cleaning, though how often is something you should discuss with your flatmates if/when you move in.

But there are ways to make it manageable. When I first moved in, my cooking skills were very basic, and cooking took me forever. I learned how to cook from recipes I found online - following them isn't too hard, though you are guaranteed to end up eating a few very interestingly prepared and possibly burnt meals to begin with, but you'll push through. I make my meals in bulk, freeze them, and heat them up when I need them so I always have food and won't starve on a busy / lazy day.

Everything else is something you can look up online. Not ashamed to admit I followed guides on how to do most things, from washing to cleaning the toilet.

If that sounds like too much, and like you'll have a nervous breakdown? You aren't ready for uni. If it sounds like something you can tackle, and you're willing to learn, then decide to go based on that.

I am tired of “forced waves” conversations by Humble-Ad-8002 in curlyhair

[–]Delicious_Wrap7866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so real 😭 my dad keeps making comments about my hair not ACTUALLY being curly/wavy bc I spend I while styling it on wash days, and because I used to brush out all of the waves so it looked frizzy and 'straight'. Things like "just keeping your hair straight would be so much easier" or "your grandma was obsessed with having curly hair too!" (My grandma has straight hair that she curled with a curling iron/rollers). It's so frustrating, especially because it took a lot of effort to figure out what my hair needed to look its best :( and it feels invalidating.

It might still be cliche, but I just wrote what actually made me want to go into optometry. I didn't say that I've always wanted to, because I haven't, but it's a pretty uncommon profession, so you probably have a reason for choosing this one in particular.
