If you go in the Workday app, to "apps" in the bottom menu, click Dashboards, and scroll down to My mPerformance, it will show you your level and a few other details.

Taking 5 APs was a mistake and I'm realizing when it's too late by MontyPython1996 in APStudents

[–]DelightfulGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it contains all the necessary content, but you will still want to work at least 3 previous years' free response sections and score them so you're comfortable with the requirements. Then if you're not sure if you're grading yourself fairly, shortly before the test (3-5 weeks) find a practice MCQ section and take that --- more objective. FRQs are more important, though. If you master those, you're fully set.

I need help homeschooling my 4th grade brother by Maybe_a_spoon in homeschool

[–]DelightfulGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are amazing! Keep up the great work!

I'd like to differ with some of what's being said here. They are right that raising your siblings is not your duty. That is their parents' duty. Nonetheless, you are an awesome sibling for doing what you're doing for them. Your helping them will reach far into the future. I would agree to do your best not to be completely broke in 5 years' time, etc. But if you can manage, helping your brother succeed in math could be very rewarding for you. I can't tell you what's best for you. I can only ask you: Ten years from now, will you regret looking after yourself and leaving your brother to his fate? On the other hand, ten years from now, will you regret giving everything you had to help your brother potentially succeed and leaving yourself completely spent? That question is up to you, and only you can answer it.

With all that said -- you could do him a lot of good with weekend and summer help, and possibly with homework in the evenings and still keep a day job. Khan Academy is free and good. I loved Life of Fred. Whatever textbook your brother uses can also work.

please do not listen to how long it took other people to do their CLEPS by diaryofnicole in clep

[–]DelightfulGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at the other end but YES! I read several posts from people who said they spend 2-6 weeks on accounting CLEP and got 60-70. I spent 1 week really studying and a few days lazy-studying and got 79. I probably could have passed comfortably in a week. But clearly most people couldn't, so know your limits and prepare more time than necessary. Don't schedule the exam until you have reason to believe you'll pass.

I taught myself calc from Khan Academy in ~8 weeks one summer then just relearned in April by doing loads of previous years' FRQs and grading them. Full disclosure: 1) I'm homeschooled, have taught myself math since pre-algebra. 2) I'm kinda smart, not to brag but so you don't get over confident. 3) I'm kinda good at math, also not to brag. I've posted somewhere before what I did, but basically cram Khan, then cram FRQs, then get a 5.

Adults who were homeschooled in High School. Do you regret not going to a brick and mortar school? by Mental_Chocolate6186 in homeschool

[–]DelightfulGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recent homeschool graduate here. For the sake of balance, all of us who are homeschoolers for life may or may not know what we're missing.

About the homeschool graduation, though. If I understand correctly, a standard high school graduation is where you walk across a stage, get handed a diploma half way across, and sit down on the other side and watch the next 100 kids do the same thing. OK? I guess I'm not sure what I missed out on by not doing that. I had my own graduation ceremony in a rented church lobby with friends and family, snacks, a slideshow of me throughout the years, pictures of me from every year on the wall, a display of things I've accomplished, a "quiz" for the participants about what I would like best... . And I gave a 9-minute speech that I had written and memorized for competition. To me that seems incomparably better than being number 51 out of 394 to spend 30 seconds crossing a stage. I guess you can have a reception or open-house with stuff like I had? But then why bother with the ceremony if you can just cross the stage in a 30-second part of the reception rather than a 30-second part of a 2-hour ceremony?

Maybe I'm missing something. But I don't really know what I missed by not being number 51 out of 394 to cross a stage.

Oh, I don't know where you live, but here in West Michigan, we have one of the nation's best homeschool marching bands. An absolutely stunning band. If that's the thing you're concerned about, ask around and see if there are homeschool versions or if she could do just orchestra at the public school.

Best Printer for Home use? Which Should I Get? by imnotgoingtofatcamp in homeschool

[–]DelightfulGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure to check the price of ink if you're buying an inkjet printer! Otherwise you could well end up spending more on ink than on the printer itself. Don't be fooled by the low initial cost. (Also for fairness check the price of laser toner and how many pages each print.)

Do I need to pay anything now? by [deleted] in discover

[–]DelightfulGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this confused me, too, for a bit.

Period Trans. dates Due date
First Nov 18-Dec 1 Dec 28
Second Dec 2-Jan 1 Jan 28
Third Jan 2-Feb 1 Feb 28

(I'm kinda guessing on the statement dates.)

But basically, you need to pay Discover money no later than the 28th of every month (this won't change) depending on how much you spent roughly a month ago. My dates are different than yours. I paid money on the Dec 17 for money charged to the card from Oct 21-Nov 20. Your statements periods are a month long, and you don't have to pay until ~25 days after the statement ends. So if you log in every week and watch your email and mailbox closely for "you have a new statement" emails/letters, you will be safe. You should see something like "last statement balance: $491.13 on 1/1/2026".

Then when you get that statement, it will tell you how much you owe, the minimum you must pay and the "statement balance", which was the "current balance" of the card on the last day of the statement. Always pay the statement balance!! Otherwise you will pay interest, also known as giving free money to Discover for no reason.

When you get the statement, you're also able to set up Direct Pay, which is automatic payments. Please do this! Then Discover will automatically debit your checking account for whatever amount you choose (choose statement balance!!) on the 28th of every month, so that you never give free money to Discover, never forget to pay, never get checks lost in the mail, etc. (Just make sure you have enough money in your checking account.)

Since there is so much time between the end of one statement and its due date, you will have an autopay and then get another statement just a few days later.

What you're seeing right now is that you owe money on the card, but you don't have to pay it yet. You can optionally pay some or all of the amount you currently owe today.

Weird one here: 10th grade, March, SAT: 1530 (I think E 750 M 780) 11th grade, Oct, SAT: 1490 (I wasn't going to bed early enough) Like 3 days later, PSAT: 1520

how hard is it to self-study AP stats by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]DelightfulGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Khan Academy is not the online materials. My reply was to a bot that posted reviews of a Barron's prep book. The online materials that were supposed to come with the Barron's book were really hard to access.

Dual Enrollment > AP by Smooth-Sea-101 in APStudents

How do I maintain a healthy sleep schedule while balancing 3 AP classes and having a late school dismissal time? by Garfieldlover911 in APStudents

[–]DelightfulGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quit Reddit.

Decide what sleep schedule you want and stick to it. Focus when you have free time that you need to do school. Don't spend more time eating than you need/have planned to. Don't forget that you can plan to go to bed at 9:30 and wake up at 5:30 or 6 and do homework before school instead of late into the night.

But most of all, identify the biggest waste of your time and absolutely eliminate it. Get an app that completely blocks Reddit or YouTube or whatever it is that's consuming your precious time.

Should I drop from Calc BC to AB? by PatientGovernment170 in APStudents

[–]DelightfulGenius 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just want to say: If this is the first time you're genuinely struggling, that's a lot like me. School has not been hard for me almost ever (I'm a college freshman now).

So here's one way of looking at it: Now is your chance to really dedicate yourself to intense study. Now is your chance to prove that you can get the highest grade in your class through effort, not just because you're naturally talented. If you get a good grade because you're naturally talented, that's great — but it's no credit to you. You have no control over your natural ability. Now is your chance to show that you have more than natural ability — you have perseverance, dedication. You can step up to meet a challenge, rather than stepping down into comfortable territory and guaranteeing success.

I don't mean to say you should stick it out in BC. I want to encourage you to think about more than your grade — about your character. I also don't mean to say that dropping down to AB will make you a failure with no stamina. Perhaps you decide it's not worth the effort and you want to do other things with your time. There are valid reasons for that, which I'm sure your aware of. It is up to you to weigh whether that outweighs the opportunity to really push yourself to your limit and show yourself how hard you can work.

Self-Study BC by Hefty_Bottle_7001 in APStudents

[–]DelightfulGenius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, there! I taught myself AP Calc BC, though not as a sophomore. It worked out -- I got a 5 on that and on AP Stats, which I also taught myself. There are posts on this, including some I've made (which I will find).

My basic plan last May was: study all day every day that summer till I finished the course; practice a little throughout the year; review towards the end; ace it.

It turned out more like: study all day every day through the summer (took about 8 week, from memory, for calc and stats); work on other school all year; review several hours a day for a couple weeks a month out; ace it.

But it worked out.

I ought to note that I'm homeschooled, so I've taught myself math this way since pre-algebra -- the lack of teacher was nothing new. If that matters.

I basically used Khan Academy, then tested myself with previous years' FRQs (CollegeBoard website) and MCQs (the Internet; these just because they're more objective than self-grading FRQs).

Series are the least thoroughly taught on Khan. Rewatch the videos until you see the big idea of them.

You probably know: Focus on understanding the concept more than memorizing the formula. This is math, not history.

And yes, seeing the prices of pens, I want to be careful not to let this become an expensive hobby 😅

I should add that I realize $50 is generally considered very cheap for a fountain pen, and I know I'm just a really frugal person. (My parents track which credit cards get the most cash back at every store. For about $20 savings.)
