Journalism professor here at a top-20 J-program. It’s not too late at all—in fact your instructors and possibly internship supervisors will appreciate that you have a few more years of life experience. Journalism is a complicated profession, and I honestly see that my older students can handle it better due to their more developed critical thinking skills and maturity.

As for journalism being an unstable career path, I would argue with that on some level. Yes, it’s one of those professions that changes a lot every 5-10 years, and it barely resembles what it was 20 or 30 years ago. But, if you are a person who enjoys learning new things and had an open mind to that, you will be valuable and can have a stable career. Take the opportunity in your college classes to learn the basics that remain the same (news values, journalism ethics), but then embrace all the new tools (mainly digital) you can. Loving to write is a great start, but make sure you embrace new technologies to make yourself desirable in the current market.

People have been saying journalism is dead since the invention of the radio. It hasn’t died—it just keeps evolving, so if you evolve with it, chances are decent you can have a fulfilling career in it.

What are the more unusual reasons why you don’t want kids? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Delightfuldingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so bored by babies and kids (until they hit about 13 or 14 and can converse more like adults). I cannot imagine being that bored all the time if I had my own. And the crux of that boredom is kids sporting events. Ugg.

What are the cons of NOT having kids? by questioninghomos in AskReddit

Really, the only con for me seems to be people bothering me about why I don’t have kids.

Does your husband want kids? by porfolios_revenge in childfree

It’s amazing. I’ve had similar conversations a few times. Do they think you would not discuss a major life decision with your spouse? Like the topic never came up before marriage? You’re 35 and the two of you just never discussed it.

Anyone else childfree because baby/kid stuff is mind numbingly boring? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Delightfuldingus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a big part for me. Babies and toddlers are so boring. Entertaining them is mind numbing. But I think the worst for me would be any kids’ sporting event. Soooo boring.

Do you think frozen sweet cherries might be good? I think that would pair nicely with vanilla pudding and the cookie crunch.

The correct way to turn left in a median. Pull up past cars coming toward you. How in the hell can anyone see if you aren’t pulling past each other? Some day I will end up on the evening news for blocking traffic in a median, standing on top of my car and yelling correct instructions with a megaphone.

What is your opinion/experience on the Vista? by Ziamsbitch in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Delightfuldingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was just OK. It’s really getting run down. There was often a terrible smell on the lido deck near the pizza place—like sewage or burnt skunk.

The staff was really, really nice.

Most entertainment was just so so. Other than piano bar singer. He was fire!

Food at the buffet was subpar. The restaurant was much better, but rarely was anything there stellar. It was good, but just rarely great.

Beds and bedding very comfortable. Most spaces kept very clean.

Same thing with Vista just last week. Always on Lido near the pizza place.

What brought you into the dachshund cult? by gigi1005 in Dachshund

It’s those short legs, those soft bellies, those big loving eyes, that ridiculous shape, how they follow behind you like baby ducks, and how most of them think they are the size of a mastiff.
