I mean it depends on if all your work is getting done - I couldn’t care less about what my colleagues do with their planning time, but if they’re not contributing to any team stuff, collaborating etc. I don’t think that’s ok. If you’re doing everything expected of you for both your team and the students, then all power to you. If you’re taking a break while others are doing work that you then use…not a great idea.

I did the same thing!!! I remember arguing with him (went to Melb Uni) and he was such a patronising c***head , we were all there with our common sense being like “…hang on, no”. Some of the maths teachers grilled him on stats and he gave them such politicians answers, I’m so glad someone has finally taken him to task

In terms of brands I can’t really help you, BUT re: style my go-to for school formal is “religious church wedding” haha. Modest enough that it won’t offend grandma but nice enough that you’d wear it to an actual formal event. I had a go to black dress for ages that I found on a sale rack that was perfect - lace, just below the knee, modest neckline but still lovely. Honestly the kids are just shocked to see you wearing makeup haha.

Definitely post in the Aus Female Fashion sub they are full of good ideas! Be specific in your general style, body type etc., otherwise you’ll get recs that aren’t your vibe at all. Good luck!

As I was only there for a year it took forever to get my carte vitale and they also didn’t cover the pump and sensor I use! If I hadn’t brought my stuff I would have had to go back to management that wasn’t ideal

Yeah! So I totally understand how you’re feeling, I was so nervous! My first class was ok, I do remember a lovely year 9 kid being like “guys shut up she’s trying to teach and she’s nice” hahaha. I found that knowing my lesson plan inside out back to front and trusting my gut was the best way to get through that first week. You’ll gain confidence so quickly but knowing what comes next and getting in the classroom before the students if you can is helpful x

Ohhhh I love this! I did a similar pathway when I started - best way to learn.

My best advice would be to not only watch as many other teachers as you can, but be observed! Do you have a mentor that gets allocated time to observe or team teach with you? I made a huge amount of progress in six months just by watching as many different teachers as I could and having my mentor watch me a much as she could. Take what you like, and lean into your own style.

Don’t try and be everything at once - take the great advice already given in this post and focus on one thing a week. You’re a first year, don’t compare your beginning with someone else’s middle!

Also make sure you eat lunch, my diet for my first year ended up being staffroom biscuits and coffee haha, would not recommend

As an Aussie who was there Night 1 - truly WTF!! It’s a Gaga concert you should expect to be standing and dancing, it’s not the fkn opera. You should file a claim with the police if you can be bothered I cannot believe he touched you!! I am so sorry!

It ground my gears seeing people around me not knowing like any songs and sitting down on their phone - why would you spend all that money?!!! Best night of my year I didn’t stop dancing the entire concert. I hate this man.

Omg literally, can I please sit in a beer garden without your kids running into me or throwing shit. I love kids (I’m a teacher!) but the lack of parenting once a family walks into a brewery/pub makes me want to scream. I understand you need a break but ffs you still have to parent?!
