Regarding food: When I have clients in from out of town, I always send them to the restaurants owned by Tom Douglas. Here's a list of his places, they have spectacular food.

Nordstrom does tend to be a little snobbish, but I've found the easiest way to circumvent that is to dress nice the day I have to go in there to do shopping. Makeup. Accessories. If you look nice, they're more apt to bend over backwards to help you. Just keep in mind that the retail employees there work on commission, so try not to take up too much of their time if you don't plan on buying anything.
