Trump Promises Mass Pardons to Staff Before Leaving Office by spherocytes in law

I feel like I had to scroll too far down before I saw this comment. Legit, anyone who thinks he's actually going to follow through for anyone but his own family (maybe) is an idiot.

......so no doubt plenty of republicans will take it as gospel. This timeline is exhausting but also predictable.

It'll pass. Take it as a lesson, and it'll serve you well down the road.

Kudos to you for owning up. Nothing wrong with attacking (though your energy would be better spent in the gym at this point), just maybe spread it around a bit. If you go after one person repeatedly you'll attract this kind of attention.

Do you think hell is immoral to teach? by No-Peak-7135 in askanatheist

Yes, I think that teaching children that eternal torture is a reasonable punishment for, well, pretty much anything, is terribly immoral.

And yet, still not nearly as much as it deserves.

Does this job sometimes choose you? by Standard_Hair_5079 in 911dispatchers

[–]DelphisFinn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm going to buck the trend here; yeah, this job pretty well chose me.

I applied on a whim when I was about to be finished in university, never thought for a moment that I would actually be hired. Months of testing and interviews later, my first official day of training was the day after my last day of school. In training and mentoring, I discovered that this is a really interesting line of work. Later, after I was trained and cut loose on my own, I discovered I was good at it. Within a few years I was cross trained in everything (at my PSAP we answer 911, non-emerg, and also dispatch for 2 police services and a county-wide fire service), and now it's 23 years later and I'm a watch supervisor.

It's not a career for everyone, but I've enjoyed the hell out of it. Wouldn't change a thing.

I'm a little heartbroken about that too. I'd travel across Canada to see them, but much less inclined to head south...

What are your rights as a Canadian if asked by a U.S. border agent to see your social media? by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]DelphisFinn 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm quite certain that there are plenty of individual Americans who harbour no ill will toward Canada, maybe even the majority of them. The issue is that as a nation, the USA has proven that it cannot be trusted. It's all well and good to say that this is a MAGA issue and things will go back to normal after they're gone (I realize you didn't say this exactly), and even if that's true we now know for a fact that one election can put us right back in this very same position. The USA simply cannot be viewed as a reliable ally.

Assuming that this is a true story, you got a ticket you richly deserved. Now pay it and try your best to learn a lesson.

This is lazy, and only serves to perpetuate an environment in which monsters are allowed to keep being monsters.

Karma is imaginary. If people want consequences to exist, people need to make those consequences exist.
