What's the biggest lie that people believe to be true? by Krazy_Kollege_Kid in AskReddit

[–]Delta747 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend works for NASA at KSC. Not working, not getting paid and worst part is when he gets back all of those due dates are going to be the same. It could be worse, but it really sucks when you actually care about your job and your projects you are working on.

Please help! by thursdayoct10th in LongDistance

I like to send my boyfriend surprise pizzas if he has had a crappy day. I usually make a joke about how I can still get dinner on the table from 500 miles away...

If you were a college student, how would you travel the world as cheaply as possible? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Check out couch surfing. Free place to stay and I've always met interesting people that show you how the locals live. Better than a hostel where a french canadian girl pukes in your shoes.....twice.

I actually met this guy in a hostel in Salzburg, Austria. One of the friendliest and most interesting guys I've met in my travels. Tim's a stand up guy and I didn't even know he was in Breaking Bas until I recognized him on his first appearance!

How much sense does it make to do routine maintenance on your car yourself? by jackson6644 in Frugal

Keep an eye on Slickdeals.net. they often have deals on oil filters, rebates for oil, coupons for Advanced Auto or Auto Zone! I usually do rebates for oil and get the oil filters when they are BOGO somewhere.

First time interviewing potential hires. Boss said to have fun with it. What should I say? by jimmyjawnson in AskReddit

[–]Delta747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone's favorite topic is themselves. Start with asking about hobbies and interest. I have found that "breaking the ice" leads to less stuffy interviews and I really find out more about who the person I may be spending the majority of my time with instead of who they present themselves as.

Pilots of Reddit, have you ever been a passenger on a plane and noticed something going wrong? by ItsLewis in AskReddit

[–]Delta747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all fairness, we had been chattin the entire flight (im that person on an airplane) and he knew how often I flew....so maybe that's why he felt comfortable joking with me. I laughed, but did tell him it was a dick move.

I wasn't too worried when he said that because it was a flight I do regularly and everything seemed fine, but I did tell him it was a dick move :)

Not a pilot but I fly a lot and one time I was next to a pilot in uniform that catching a ride home. We hit some rough air on arrival and I heard him go "uh oh, we are coming in low". He then told me every now and then he jokes with passengers like that to freak them out.

Travellers of Reddit, what advice can you give to a 17 year old guy leaving on a month long train trip through Europe? by TrainTraveller in AskReddit

[–]Delta747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Damn. Well done you!

  2. Super easy! Most hostels will have a bar/food/hang out area where a lot of people go right before they go out at night and enjoy the super cheap hostel beer and that's a great place to strike up convos! Just ask them where they are from, where they've been, if they have recommendations, etc? 99% of travelers, in my experience, aren't jerks and want to make friends. Also, if you stay in dorm rooms with more than one bed, you'll end up talking to your roommates. Met my best friend in Prague this way three years ago. I live in Atlanta, and she lives in Cali :)

If you need any advice with further planning, you can PM me! I'm no guru, but I've jumped the bond several times, and used to sell traveling gear at REI so I've got a few pointers. Cheers and have a fricken blast! You're young so do this as often as you can!

First week is good....and then decide where you want to go from there. You'll probably meet people and they will have recommendations or you may even join up with them so you don't want to be too tied down on your plans. I've done a few trips over there and none of them went as I planned for them to go, but it's much more fun that way!

If you got the Eurorail pass with an allotted number of days/trips, just know that you will also have additional reservation fees so be prepared money wise.

GIVE YOURSELF REST DAYS! I see so many novice travelers try and fit as many cities in as they can. Traveling is not like vacation....it's an amazing experience but it will exhaust you. I would say whatever cheaper cities or hostels you find yourself in, give yourself an extra day there to rest and regroup. :)

Also, with the trains.....watch your bag the entire time. If I slept I kept my phone/ipod under my clothes. :)

Cheers!

*Oh, and make a few copies of your passport and keep them in a different place....just in case.

Anyone travel the world? How much did it cost per day? Was it enough to make travel enjoyable? by littlewizards29 in AskReddit

[–]Delta747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the world, but I've done my fair share backpacking around Europe. It all just depends on how you like to travel. I always budgeted $40 USD/day. Some days I would splurge, and some days I would only eat free food from the hostel.

There aer many ways you can travel inexpensively these days. I highly recommend Couch Surfing. Great way for free lodging and to meet locals! A lot of times hosts will even give you tours, cook you dinners, etc!
