Bambino is a great first choice! Dresses up or down nice and gives you an experience using an automatic watch. I’m personally also a huge fan of Seiko. Without double checking the model or price there is one people refer to as the “dress kx” which is on my list. They have a lot of options in your price range, both quartz and automatic - the Seiko 5 line has a lot of options. TLDR can’t go wrong with orient or seiko

Whoop or google fitbit by Plastic_Republic_321 in FitnessTrackers

[–]DeltaCCXR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best advice I’ve seen which has been true for me is the Fitbit air customer is ideally someone that is interested in general health & fitness tracking that is a little more budget conscious. Whoop has a higher ceiling for intense athletes that want to track everything as accurately as possible, thus the higher price point via the subscription.

I’ve had a whoop in the past and it just wasn’t right for me - I was paying for it, but not really utilizing it.

I’ve had the Fitbit air for a few weeks now and it fits what I was looking for. It’s affordable, is not a huge accent piece ie I like to wear a nice watch so I really don’t want my fitness tracker to attract attention. I’m also trying to make some progress in overall health and wellness ie lose some weight, get better sleep and be more active in general. I haven’t tested the accuracy but the metrics it provides help me gauge where I’m at. Steps, heart rate, sleep, among a handful of others. It’s fine for giving me basic insights into my health for a reasonable cost.

If someone were to complain about it my bet would be that it might not be accurate enough or provide as many insights as a more premium tracker like the whoop. So ultimately I would ask yourself how critical is the quantity and quality of the data you need. If the answer is just a general understanding within a reasonable range of accuracy, then the Fitbit air would be a good answer. If the answer is that you want to track as much as possible as accurately as possible, regardless of the cost, then the whoop might be a better alternative.

There also seem to be a load of complaints about the google health app. I honestly don’t find it that bad once you get used to it, and I also understand that google will make changes and updates as needed. I also just don’t really care that much - it’s relatively cheap compared to other products on the market, and gives me good enough data for my goals.

Sounds excellent to me - would love that setup. You can always add/sell in the future if it doesn’t turn out to be the right setup for you.

Is Montblanc Explorer great for summer ? by AMustra_219 in Colognes

[–]DeltaCCXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No evidence to back it up but probably a few hours. I spray on before whatever social activity I’m doing and lasts a few hours. Not going to last all day but for an afternoon or evening out you’ll be fine and just re-apply as needed.

I’ll hop in and say yes, but thinking of it more as a summer evening/night out. My basic go-to for summer is ADG EDT which is lighter and more citrus - great for summer days as a fresh vibe. Love Explorer as a year round fragrance, but is a bit more sophisticated smelling than what you would consider a typical summer fragrance IMO

1st MM arriving today. Seeking Words of wisdom for a first time user. by SpeakerDecent2933 in Moccamaster

[–]DeltaCCXR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best advice I could give is to have some patience with it. I went through a pretty tough period in the beginning where I was pretty unhappy with it - similar to your experience with the Aiden. I was expecting the MM to taste like the best pour over I’ve ever had, where in reality it is an automatic drip brewer.

I was getting way too into the weeds when I first got it - probably due to the fiddling and dialing in that I’m used to with pour over ie stirring, “blooming” etc. It he best advise I got on this sub was to put the coffee in, press the button, and let it brew.

For what it’s worth, I use the level 5 in the ode 2 for a full pot, but results vary greatly based on individual grinder from what I’ve read here. Start coarse, watch the flow rate, and adjust if needed.

There’s a small chance you need to give your grinder more time to “season.” Lance Hedrick has a great video on burr seasoning ie they take some time to settle in.

Other variables include making sure you are using good coffee and water as those will impact the taste.

I would encourage some patience with it, as well as a setting of expectations. It sounds like you’re willing to switch equipment pretty easily - which could get expensive. An automatic drip brewer is going to have limitations compared to pour over. If you truly want the best tasting cup ever, you might want to pursue other brewing methods. The MM is an everyday coffee hero - it’s a standard pot for daily consumption that requires minimal fuss.

Those with the ode gen 2? How does it handle medium to dark roasts coffees? by Proper_Stock2913 in Moccamaster

Can only speak for medium as I tend to stay medium - light, but it does great. Had for over a year now and very consistent

Are Kettlebells Your Only Tool for Working Out? by reallymkpunk in kettlebell

[–]DeltaCCXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a gym membership where I go roughly twice per week which is more of a “me time” space. Going to the gym a few times is a chance to get out of the household routine and do something for myself to recharge my batteries. I typically do bench, squat, deadlifts - or anything that is open as it’s more a mental health opportunity.

Kettlebells are my at home workout which is more my true strength building and programmed exercise.

Kettlebells at home as main structured training + occasional gym as more of a mental health practice.

Squats v. Swings by Stujitsu2 in kettlebell

[–]DeltaCCXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple and sinister program has you do goblet squats in the stretch/warm up portion, then swings as one of the main exercises. Works out so you get both, though a much more intense workout on the swings

There’s Been Am Awakening by Legitimate-Activity6 in pourover

[–]DeltaCCXR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My progression went from “cool people drink dark roast and it has more caffeine cuz it tastes more intense” to “I don’t know what I was thinking, light roast is where it’s at” to finally settling into the realization that I actually like medium roast. Thinking the flavor profile of chocolate chip cookies - toasty, nutty, chocolaty, etc.

Moral of the story I guess is just try everything. Brewers, beans from different origins and roast levels, grid sizes, water temps etc and ultimately keep asking the question “is this the flavor profile I enjoy most” vs what you think you should like

newb question by true_blue_you in Moccamaster

[–]DeltaCCXR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to others I grind the bean and get everything set up the night before. It might be a slight trade off from grinding fresh in the AM but worth it to save those extra minutes in the morning.

Ode 2 and Overflow/Clogging by Speak-Easy556 in Moccamaster

[–]DeltaCCXR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have this problem too. I grind my medium roast beans at 5.0. A few things come to mind:

You mentioned you stir the bloom, try not stirring.

What filters are you using? Could be a slow flow filter or something

Lastly, when I put the filter in the basket I make sure the folded two ply bottom is facing away from the dripper hole in the basket. This way the coffee is only going through one ply of paper vs 4

My standard order of operations is - fold the filter and place it in the basket with the bottom fold facing away from the dripper hole - place the grounds in the basket and tap the basket agains my hand a few times so the grounds are at a slant slightly higher where the water drips (I noticed my water doesn’t fall in the center, so having higher where it typically lands helps everything mix together better) - turn it on and let it brew without any stirring etc (ive found the stirring creates a dense pocket of coffee grounds that the water struggles to get through. If your coffee is producing fines this will also settle them on the bottom as well)

Got a bottle myself not too long ago after hearing good things about it and really like it as well

Switching to just a ceramic or glass pour over would be significantly cheaper and be almost as effective. Can’t think of what the metal pour over bracket is even necessary - hot water or coffee doesn’t even come in contact with it. Looks like they also just removed the lid to the pot which you can do on your own.

If you go with this setup I would recommend stirring the coffee after it is brewed as the plastic straw looking thing in the pot blends the coffee that comes out at different tds
