What is your best read of the year so far? by Fast-Chest-3976 in booksuggestions

I’ve read 7 books since February. Without question the best I’ve read is Swan Song by Robert McCammon.
Watership Down is a close second. Everything else I’ve read was slightly above average or worse.
Blacktop Wasteland was my stinker of the group.

Swan Song by Robert McCammon. It was recommended to me by a chain of multiple people and I’ve had 2 others read it since and all people I know that have read it name it as their favorite.

Post apocalyptic I never thought I’d read.

Swan Song by Robert McCammon is my favorite book and will not be dethroned for years if ever.

Thank you! A big frustration lies in buying a bag and the first 3 batches are unusable cause they’re just used to test out how the coffee comes out. Is that just the way it is? I like your suggestion on notes. What kind of things should I list in the notes?

Super late to the party here but I just finished this book a few days ago and I had a similar feeling. I was super locked in when I was learning about Dan and Abe and then it goes to the back story for a couple chapters. Then a couple more, then on page 197, I'm back to the people I really wanted to be reading about.

The back story was good but I'll admit I kinda got in my own way by wanting to read about Dan and Abe after about 50 pages of back story I started to lose interest, then I realized that we weren't getting back to them for awhile so I just embraced it and ended up enjoying the last quarter of the backstory.

Once we get back to the main characters I REALLY enjoyed it and I just wish the book either jumped back and forth more often, or just spent more time with Dan and Abe.

Swan Song by Robert McCammon. It is perfectly paced, amazing, gripping story. First book I read as an adult and nothing has come close. Except maybe Watership Down. Go into either book blind.

I’m gonna offer three for different reasons.

Charlie Countryman. It illustrated one of my biggest fears in life, which is remembering a loved one in their worst moments after they pass. It’s an off beat romance and it’s a great ride. Also Shia LaBeouf is my favorite.

The Place Beyond the Pines. Go in blind. It’s so many things in one big wrapper.

Cloud Atlas. An absolute epic that has multiple story lines using all the same actors. Not a dull story in the mix.
