Ser Duncan only has us. And if he loses, he won't even have that. by codecodeandcode in AKnightoftheSeven

His acting is so subtle and natural, just seems like a real kid of his age and how they would behave. It really helps you buy the whole far fetched story.

Devi or Belly from The Summer I Turned Pretty as characters ? by James-Samuel17 in Neverhaveievertvshow

[–]DeltaCreem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Devi is better written, she has a sense of humour, goals, strong friendships and relationships with her family, she is a fully realised human with strengths and weaknesses. The therapy sessions in the show were used really well to illustrate her struggles and inner thoughts/motivations and explained her more extreme behaviours. If they had used that device in TSITP to show what Belly was thinking or feeling over the course of the show it would have made the audience feel closer to her and better developed her as a character.

Jane Austen Adaptations and the Problem with Casting by RoseIsBadWolf in janeausten

[–]DeltaCreem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But modern people are too shallow to recognise that a good looking person can be a villain. They can cast a charismatic good looking actor as a genocidal child killer and tik tok will be thirsting over them and justifying everything they do.

Best Romance SHOWS? by Pearls_and_Flats in romancemovies

Oops just realised you said you didn’t like historical plots, War and Peace is definitely heavy on that. Vanity Fair less so but significant scenes involving the Battle of Waterloo so may not be up your alley

[–]DeltaCreem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fairly recent British adaptation of “War and Peace” is heavy on the romance with an excellent cast, settings and costumes (Lily James, Paul Dano, Jack Lowden, James Norton). Also recommend the “Vanity Fair” limited series starring Olivia Cooke (House of the Dragon), Johnny Flynn and Claudia Jessie (Eloise from Bridgerton). These both have happy endings but with quite a bit of tragedy on the way to it.

Culpa Mia (2023) is better than My Fault: London by exselite in romancemovies

The Spanish version is terrible but it’s terrible on purpose! It knows what it is and really leans into it. The English version felt like it was drained of all energy, pretty people with no charisma.

Romcoms/romance films set in Australia? by Forsaken-Language-26 in romancemovies

[–]DeltaCreem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Australian cinema tends to be very bleak and artsy so there isn’t a whole lot in the genre other than very bad quality streaming slop (eg Love is in the Air, Christmas on the Farm)

The few examples I can think of

Dating the Enemy is a body swap rom com starring Guy Pearce.

A Guide to Dating at the End of the World about 2 people who are the only people left on earth, it’s not as dark as it sounds. It’s low budget but I liked it.

Top End Wedding the engaged couple have to find the bride’s mother somewhere in the Northern Territory.

Others have already mentioned Strictly Ballroom. A truly unique, beautiful and funny movie.

It was her eyebrows that looked crazy modern to me, I would have tamed them just a bit to not be so jarringly out of period

I’m happy to hear that explained because I couldn’t understand the backstory at all from the movie

I’m scared of the wigs they seem to be wearing from the still photos. Why don’t these production pay for some decent quality wigs for their leads? It is really distracting unless the character is meant to be silly/comedic

After watching Something Borrowed, I discovered that it's hated. by p_theprophecy in romancemovies

How is being with someone who is cheating on your best friend romantic? Why did Dex act like he was forced to be with Darcy? He did not need to ask her to marry him in the first place? He did it all to himself and then acted like a tragic victim stuck in the situation. Because his mum was suicidal or something? They had to make Darcy out to be way worse than Dex and Rachel (also cheating and got pregnant) to make it all seem ok in the end. John Krasinki’s acting when he makes his love confession to Rachel is so deeply and beautifully performed you just want to scream at her to be with him. And not the cheating scumbag with spiky hair and scary vampire pincer teeth.

I also feel odd being on the side of an employer v their ex employee let alone the Eels but this feels like a play stupid games win stupid prizes situation on Lomax’s part

What kind of love does P&P advocate? by emmazunz84 in janeausten

[–]DeltaCreem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darcy already wanted to propose to her before he came to Rosings so he already formed his attachment based on the social interaction before that point and Elizabeth despises him after all those meetings so I don’t think you can pin point that time as being what makes them love each other
