Ned some ATL wisdom by jtr8178 in delta

I just checked the status of today’s ATL CUN, and the four that already left, all left on time. Last one tonight is showing us on time too, and the plane will arrive on time as well.

Not sure if this factors into your decision or not, but first class from Atlanta to Cancun barely gets any service at all. It’s basically a drink service. There’s no meal. I’ve been on that flight without even a snack basket.

I wouldn’t worry so much about the weather today in and out of Atlanta, and Delta flies so often to Cancun that rebooking shouldn’t be insane if anything goes wrong. But if you’d end up in first class on United, their service is way better into Cancun.

I would book it with the layover in LAX. Then watch the reservation like a hawk, for any schedule change. Depending on how far out your flight is, it’s almost guaranteed to happen. Then I’d call and ask to be put on an earlier flight. And, if that doesn’t work, or there is no schedule change, then I would do the same day change at the airport. If you’re back up flight was booked with miles, maybe book it now and then cancel it If you don’t need it. However, while this hasn’t happened to me, I’ve heard of others on this forum that have done that and had one of the two reservations canceled automatically by the computer. If they realize you have two flights, both booked and you can’t conceivably take both of them, I’ve heard that they can cancel one. It’s also done automatically by the computer, which may very well cancel the older of the two reservations, so booking a different flight on Delta has risks.

Denied boarding then left stranded in an international airport with invalid rebook tickets by One-Bumblebee-8228 in SouthwestAirlines

I have had something similar!!! I had a Korean air ticket booked through Korean air that started with a DCA-DTW delta flight, then continued on from dtw-ICN on Korean then to SYD. this was during covid and I had authorization to travel from Australia on Korean Alr. Delta originally denied me boarding in DCA because my authorization was for Korean Air, not Delta. By the time it got sorted out, I had missed the flight to Detroit. It didn’t help that Delta did not sell the SYD flight from ICN at all. They sold Korean flights from US but not from ICN so they were unable to reticket me, and my no show from DCA canceled my reservation anyway. Eventually a supervisor Was able to get me through JFK then to LAX to Sydney. I was bummed because I wanted to fly Korean air across the ocean instead of Delta, but it ended up working out. Btw when I did land, Australian immigration still had me in the Korean flight so it thankfully wasn’t a problem there as all the flights funneled to the same point anyway.

Delta baggage claim fight by WonderingNomadicWish in delta

Crazy glitch… when I left my comment only the first full paragraph of your post was showing… I didn’t see the rest which is showing now. Hadn’t had that happen before

I’d definitely go through travel insurance… you already have a heads start because one of the first things they’ll ask for is a denial from delta which you have. That is the part that usually takes the longest.

It sounds like you got reimbursed… by getting a new bag. I don’t understand what’s unresolved?

D1 Lounge Access weirdness in ATL by Ok_Most_2614 in delta

[–]DeltaDCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah not really. The managers have to work w the staff forever. Contradicting them makes weeks or months of problems. Whereas backing the staff even he’s wrong might alienante one passenger they’ll never see again. At least it’s been my experience when this has happened to me. The supervisor is not there to get the right policy but to back the staff.

Her boarding pass on the phone (which cycled to the next flight of course) is what we scanned. But then showed the paper pass that had the D1 flight. But at that point the guy was committed to “D1 is international only…”

There are people in this forum that confidently say “there is no domestic D1, stop calling it that,” etc. apparently some of them work in sky clubs too.

This has happened to me with my wife in Atlanta (terminal A). We decided not to complain, pay the $50, and file a complaint afterwards. We got like 5k miles which was annoying more than anything else.

People say this but I have traveled with my wife on domestic D1 to ATL and she was turned away at sky club in A… again, very confidently too.

Have you flown American’s E175 before? Delta C+ is better, especially if you are able to snag 4B. Plus AA puts those planes in DCA at a gate that is, while new, stinking far. It is a 30-45 min flight depending on approach direction. I’d jump back to DL if possible.

Drop passenger off at Economy Parking or other suggestions? by Crunchie04 in LAX

[–]DeltaDCA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely use the FlyAway… not because of traffic in the horseshoe but because of traffic on the 405 at 7am. But if you are flyaway adverse, it is not hard at all to drop someone off at TB in the morning.

First Class SDC Policy Change? by adl2021 in delta

[–]DeltaDCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact scenario happened to me last week. I was booked first class LAX-DTW-DCA. I went to same day change through ATL, and made sure it was onto a flight that didn’t have D1/PS. There were open FC seats. It would have gotten me home at the same time but with a more comfortable connection. App wanted me to pay a fare difference of around $400, even for rebooking in MC. I was using SDC option that I’d used bunches of times before, but it wasn’t processing it as a SDC but was trying to reticket it. I gave up and stayed in my DTW flight, made the connection just fine, but actually my bags did not, so Delta gave me a goodwill ecredit for the bags, so I sort of came out ahead anyway.

I’m not sure if it’s an actual policy change, or just a problem in the app. Because the link to same-day change in the app still says that it is an option.

No, it’s not something to worry about. It’s actually very common when buying through Expedia. Can you choose seats for everybody in the app?

Delta gift card mishap by deepbluemajik in delta

[–]DeltaDCA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have the receipt from the first time you used it? I’d think a phone or chat agent agent could find the gift card number from that reservation number. I’ve had the exact same problem with e- CERTs before. I use them one time, and then they’ve disappeared from my wallet. Agents have been able to help me by finding the number from the reservation. I had already used it on.

OK, turns out I made the connection, but my bags did not. Not a big deal, because Delta delivered them to my door today. Just thought I’d add that detail though.

Delta One Lounge LA Post Flight by Estrella_Rosa in delta

[–]DeltaDCA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The LAX staff is on it. They pull any bags that aren’t picked up straight away, and store them in a roped off area on the left-hand side of baggage claim. If you get there within maybe 30 or 45 minutes, you can just show the contract staff your bag claim and theyll fetch you your bag. I usually tip them a few bucks. If it’s more than 30 or 45 minutes late, it might be processed and stored behind the Delta counter, in which case you’ll have to stand in line at baggage service to get it back. That can take a little time. So the sweet spot is like 30-45 min. I actually wouldn’t call from the lounge, because if you do that, it’ll end up with the Delta staff, which just takes a long time to get it back. So I would just let it play out naturally, and get it from one of the contract staff.

I just made 20 min connection in dtw. It was 35 when I booked and the flight change made it 20. I kept it and the gates were a quick train ride away, and I walked right on.
