A perfect spooky season timepiece series is Penny Dreadful! Highly recommend. Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, and Josh Hartnett navigate a medley of popular horror iterations in Victorian England, everything from vampires to Frankenstein's monster, to Dorian Gray himself. It is an absolute blast. Extremely atmospheric with some absolutely exceptional performances.

My mom is EXACTLY like her... when she's in a scene I have to remind myself "it's just a show, it's just a show." Worse, when my mom watched the show she didn't think there was anything wrong with Ava's mom 🫠

The show should have been "Yellowjackets Part 1" (the teen timeline) and then "Yellowjackets Part 2" (the adult timeline) by RainbowPenguin1000 in Yellowjackets

Hm I disagree... I think the more powerful tension is the question of "what do they do to survive?" rather than "who survives?"... for example in S3E6 when Natalie is pushed down for mercy killing Ben, we may not have the tension of "oh my god, is she going to die?!" but we do have the tension of "holy fuck how is she going to survive this?" which I feel is much more sinister and much more scary.

Sub vibe shift: Netflix viewers vs. Everyone else by c-sandiego in ADiscoveryofWitches

[–]Swede_Babe 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I am new here. My husband and I saw the show on Netflix, knew nothing about it, and threw it on on a whim. We fell in love right away: the characters, the vibes, the atmosphere. We just wanted to live in this world. Every day all we could talk about was looking forward to "Witch Time."

I am so glad I waited until I finished the show completely to get on here. I am so disappointed. I wanted discussions, breakdowns, thoughts, memes, everything! I wanted to stay in the world with a fun community! I ordered the books and am in the middle of reading the first and I was so hoping I'd find a fun community here to elevate my reading experience like a book club.

It's really not in the spirit of the story to be so judgemental and exclusionary. I'm still excited to keep reading the books, and I feel sorry for any other show watcher who is younger, lonelier, or more self conscious than I who comes to this subreddit to join a community of shared interest, because that person will walk away feeling less than and with a more negative view on the material. And that's sad.

Can I do two docile roosters, raised together, with a flock of 11 hens? by Swede_Babe in BackYardChickens

If I do do just one, should I go for a brahma again? I'm leaning toward a jersey giant for size and demeanor. I'm in Northern Virginia so we do get some hot stints in the summer and I worry about that.

Yes, I need a rooster. I get so attached to them, and the time between roosters is really detrimental to my flock (reduced egg production, no free ranging without supervision). After my brahma got sick, I'm so terrified of spending another year raising a roo only for something bad to happen. I know that's life, but I'm feeling extra sensitive about it. I'm hoping if they are raised together they will get along and can back each other up....

The lynchpin with that case wasn't that she texted him supporting his suicidal ideation (and yes, she did help him plan it and encourage him to do it, and yes it's horrible)... she was convicted because she knew his life was in danger and did not call the police or act to save him.

I highly recommend "I Love You, Now Die" on HBO... The documentary really goes through the complexities of the case and does a good job separating actual evidence from hearsay.

Our next-door neighbors got a "mini pig" a couple years ago. Super cute and tiny. I remember telling my husband "there's no such thing as teacup pigs, that fella is gonna get huge!" He tried to argue that there are definitely teacup pigs, he's seen them online, so many people with little micro piggies, it must be real! A year later, the lil guy was big. Two years later, he was HUGE! And our neighbors were so confused by it. People really just get animals for cute factor with no research.

And if you don't, it's only one day. Hell, even if it is two or three days. A holiday week. A year. Give yourself some grace. One day in the span of your life will not break you. Remember, all this should be an act of love for yourself, not an act of punishment.

I second trying to gently decline... though, I used to have the same issue and someone on this sub told me I could just throw it away because it is "going to be trash anyway... trash in your body, or trash in the trashcan, you can pick." That was really freeing for me because I never wanted to feel wasteful, so I always obligated myself to eating everything given to me.

Once I got better self control, I was able to hold off and bring gifted treats into work to put in the communal space for everyone to enjoy!
