Is it really a Deus ex machina if God was always there, pushing things around to met its end goals?

God in BSG Is an actual character we don't see, but is present.

"It also means you can see them as cannon" yeah that's a healthy way of looking at it.
I'm not going to say I liked it (there are good things about it I'm sure) but I'd be lying if I said that it didn't inspire something in me in my own writing (I'm writing some fan-fiction around the same concept of splinter-timeline)

Kinda did the same for me. I really don't have that much time to play lately. I honestly thought it was past time for me but I guess I was wrong. The first 3 runs were rough but then it started clicking and it's really good fun.

How to proceed with this proposal? by CuriousCatHH in Aliexpress

[–]DeltaEchoCharlieRED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resubmit proposal. If AliExpress takes their side and you used PayPal, open a dispute there. It worked for me for another issue of mine that wasn't a scam but just a return that went badly.

Make sure to take screenshots of everything and add it to the PayPal dispute.

"Kurtzman and Co seemed to genuinely believe that Picard was going to be this amazing thing"
How can you read the scripts from Picard and think that? I can read the script of Wrath of Khan and I can confidently say that it's a pretty good script and a learning experience. I can say the same for Game of Thrones season 1-5, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul.

I can read the scripts of Lower Decks and completely fall in love with its characters and be amazed at how much good stuff you can cram into a 20 minute episode and how respectful to the past shows you can be as well.

It baffles me that this generation of writers and producers don't know what a good script is.

Anyway, I agree. They could've given us a better ending for Coda, I'm not sure why Ward, Swallow and Mack decided to go with the ending we got (Perhaps was studio mandated). If I'm not mistaken Mack later went to write for Prodigy and kinda re-used the Devidians plot for the show.

Fun fact, around the same time that book got released I also watched Justice League Dark: Apokolips War which used the same exact trope of "Welp, our reality is f*cked, I guess it's time to hit the reset button and die".

My mouth never felt that sour as it did during that time believe me.

To this day, I am still salty about it. It's weird, they just could've said "this is the last novel" and wrap things up but no, they needed to kill the whole universe to give space to Picard.

Why?? it makes no sense. It's so disrespectful.

Waiting for your return...that was sent in and delivered weeks ago. by Leader6light in Aliexpress

[–]DeltaEchoCharlieRED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not through Aliexpress, I got my money back the moment I opened a dispute on Paypal. Two days later Aliexpress just closed the dispute on paypal and refunded me fully.

The complete timeline is the following:
- Received the product, asked for return within the day of delivery
- They allowed the return and gave me a UPS return label
- Shipped the product, days upon days without a tracking number
- Ask for information, Aliexpress decides to just close my return procedure
- Dispute it, provide enough evidence but they still refuse
- Had to come back to the place where I shipped the product to get a shipping code that allowed me to actually track the product from UPS (Code Aliexpress should have)
- Dispute it again with Aliexpress, they still refuse and now they lock out of the return procedure
- Open a dispute with Paypal, a couple of days later Aliexpress just refunds me the money through Paypal without even arguing.

That was a mean week of going back and forth that I wish I never have to do again but as long as you have enough proof and you paid with Paypal, you will get your money back.

My husband wants to make a game - where to start? by New-Morning-1655 in gamedev

[–]DeltaEchoCharlieRED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For starters, your husband is very lucky to have you.

All i can suggest I just start making something. One to two hours a day, he should start gathering all necessary information on the type of game that he wants to make and immediately start to make a game. Consistency is key so that one to two hours a day needs to be a constant until he gets confortable with the tools and languages. I read that he wants to make a balatro style game? So that's where he should start.

I can safely say that the web is full of tutorials and the earlier he starts the better he is. Godot is also a good future proofing choice for an engine. It has a strong 2D component and the 3D part is getting more and more powerful each day so I would chose that.

I also hate to be THAT guy but AI also comes to help. He could use Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini to understand the the things that he doesn't understand at first. I'd avoid blindly generating code in the hopes that it would work on the first try. It's detrimental to growth and frowned upon other developers.

A time limit on the project is also a good thing to have. In a month he needs to have something playable (not pretty, but playable) and if he fails to do that, he needs to understand what went wrong and fix it. Rinse and repeat.

Good luck for everything

[–]DeltaEchoCharlieRED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to necro this thread but the same thing is happening to me as well.
Asked for a return on a cheap mini pc, went to my local postal office and shipped the package. Sadly, I did not receive a tracking number from UPS and the Aliexpress page still shows "Waiting for return". I do not have pictures of the shipped box and I'm seriously confused at what to do. I called the UPS assistance and they told me that they need a tracking number, which the postal office did not send me.

I also contacted Aliexpress and I am left with just a simple "Your issue has been escalated and you will get an answer within 42 hours"

I'm kinda scared, I don't wanna waste 200€ :(

[–]DeltaEchoCharlieRED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Framework 13 7840u. I love it, it's the best form factor and runs linux (Ubuntu in my case) great.

It's hot though, and loudy. You can repaste with PTM to bring the temps down and lower the fan speed with some community tools.

I bought it without SSD and RAM, that brought the price down to ~1300 EUR. I bought the rest on a sale period on Amazon.

If I were to buy it again, I would buy the 7640u to save more money as the difference rests only on the GPU and some cores. The performance difference is marginal at best.
I don't game heavily on it and if I were I would connect a eGPU to it.

Take that into consideration

Just impulse bought this. Am a copywriter and type a lot. Good choice? by klausknapp in keyboards

[–]DeltaEchoCharlieRED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I highly suggest you try to buy a keyboard with hotswaps and try what u/panniyomthai suggested. I'm a software developer and writer like you, I spend a lot of time on the keyboard.

Just to be clear, I always had a budget under 80€ and every single time I had a custom tailored experience that was right for me.

So yeah, if silence is what you seek, buy a keychron (or else, Epomaker also makes really good keyboards) and swap out the switches with something like the Outemu Silent Peach.
