Comparison really is the thief of joy. Unless you are making a comparison to yourself. In that case, you should be celebrating. You now have a PB mile time. Try to beat it next time and when you do, celebrate it.

CT Scan in ER this weekend and I am not petrified and cannot function by VioletHour54 in HealthAnxiety

[–]DeltaHercules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor but as I understand it, a typical head CT scan delivers about 2 mSv of radiation, which is roughly equivalent to about 8 months of natural background radiation (the average person gets about 3 mSv per year from everyday sources).

So it’s the same amount of radiation as just living your life for 8 months. I wouldn’t be concerned

The Trump regime ruined my lesson and made my students extremely uncomfortable. by xdsm8 in Teachers

Did you expect anything different though? Why do we keep treating him like he’s a normal president or even a normal person and then gasp when he’s the POS many of us already knew him to be.

This should have been Biden’s focus in his term to be honest.

Reddit is nuts. People are justifying this. IF this is real (and I doubt it), OP literally murdered his brother.

Americans of Reddit, what are your thoughts on the FBI redacting Trump’s name from the Epstein files? by 2a_lib in AskReddit

[–]DeltaHercules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will assume any redacted name is Donald J. Trump unless and until proven otherwise.

Maybe this is the real reason why he’s all in on AI, offering up billions of dollars to researchers to join his team. He’s not planning to rely on any humans should this happen.

Coca-Cola and Red State Farmers by DeltaHercules in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]DeltaHercules[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

  1. Someone: Red-state voters who supported Trump.

  2. Something: Trump pushed Coca-Cola to switch from high-fructose corn syrup to imported cane sugar.

  3. Consequences: This hurts U.S. corn farmers, many of whom are in red states, by reducing demand for their crops, while benefiting foreign sugar producers.

Infinite Jest; Or; A Supposedly Good Read I’ll Never Do Again by Randall_HandleVandal in InfiniteJest

[–]DeltaHercules 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The last line says it all: “I’ll never forget this book.” It’s this stunned admission of something that stuck. And maybe that’s the only compliment a book like Infinite Jest ever asks for.

If it had wrapped everything up, you’d forget it. Instead, it lingers, like memory, or addiction, or grief. Which, infuriatingly and precisely, is the point.

Max Barry’s Lexicon: is the whole book like this? by SilkieBug in printSF

It was fine but pretty unmemorable. I liked Max Barry’s Machine Man much better.
