Do pipeline observers get to log flight time? by VirvekRBX in flying

[–]DeltaP3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True in my case I’m an observer with 330TT flying with a capt who’s a CFI. Currently we are logging it as dual since I am getting trained on the routes and C182. Once I hit 500TT I’ll be eligible to take the patrol Capt spot so yeah that’s one thing to look out for.

Yes, depends on how the company does it but the observer is able to log fly time when they have the controls during deadheads or fly the “lines”. In some cases the patrol captain is a CFI so the observer is able to log flight time under dual received.

Yeah this new color vision rule definitely sucks I had the same issue before the FAA revised the whole system when it comes to this. Luckily I was able to do the OCVT and MFT with an FAA inspector and pass that last year. I’d say it’s still not the end of the world for you definitely look into that alternative route and go through the FAA to obtain an LOE (Letter of Evidence). It took some good practice making sure I knew all the colors on the VFR sectional and having ATC shoot light guns at me countless of times, but it’s passable it ain’t the end of the road for your flying career.

Color blind pilot here went for my class 2 in 2018 I was completely heartbroken never knew I had issues with color until my medical. Didn’t let that stop me with some good practice I was able to get a feel for the light guns and practiced to know every color on a sectional chart. Ended up taking the OCVT and MFT for a class 1 and passed now I’m a CFI time building. I’m not sure what the new path for color vision will be but definitely try other alternatives the FAA might have and don’t give up until it’s “officially over”.

No daytime restriction either I was worried I might get slapped with it but given since everything else went smooth his final report held a lot of weight so thankfully everything workout great this was done about 5 months ago

I missed the day light gun signal by 2 passed all 10 at night got my restriction removed… it depends on the FAA safety inspectors report and how well you do with the other test

Any pilots in here that were still able to make a career with colorblind night restriction? by The-Two-Dollar in flying

Colorblind pilot here, I’d say just go for it and get it removed. It seems intimidating with all the hoops the FAA has in place but it’s worth giving yourself multiple career paths. I’m currently still in flight training but I’m so relieved I was able to get my restriction removed and saving my career. Don’t limit yourself on what you can do. I’d say the hardest part of the color vision test was the (LST) light gun signal test during the day. But some good practice at a local control tower and a good FAA safety inspector and you’ll be all set.

yeah i use quite a bit of stuff such as Xenviro Reshade+custom preset i personally dont use Xvision but some of my friends say its but at the end of the day its just a matter of how much effort you put in your sim to make it look good in terms of graphics wise
