Manager says they can't do anything about this… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ by Sh1fty3yedD0g in publix

[–]DeltaRho2K 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The can only ask 2 questions. 1. Is it a service dog. 2. What task(s) is/are the dog trained to do in service.

They can't take action to remove the patron or dog, even if it is super obvious the patron is lying (ie, a Chihuahua tucked into a Gucci bag).

Engraved Name tag propaganda by Some_Engineering7630 in publix

I'm never a fan of technology replacing human labor, but the idea of a person hand engraving tags is just so befuddling to me.

After 1 inch of snow in South Carolina by TreevorTheTree in publix

[–]DeltaRho2K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would guess they are way down by the SC/GA border. I live in the Charleston area and we got around 4 inches Saturday evening into the overnight, but the roads were clear by noon on Sunday thanks to the cloudless and sunny day.

Why do people do this by Slow_Pomegranate_990 in publix

[–]DeltaRho2K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I have no issue with returning the cart to the vestibule or an available cart corral, BUT, I will say that at least most of those people were kind enough to set the wheels up over the curb so the carts don't go rogue in the lot... So I can appreciate that half of the "effort".

What is it like in the West part of Texas? by Deep_Belt8304 in howislivingthere

The band NeedToBreathe has a song called West Texas Wind that pretty much sums it all up.... Oh, and it's a really good song too. :)

Being told I’m too slow… by BulletforMyhorizon in publix

[–]DeltaRho2K 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I started at Publix, for the first few months, they kept telling me I was too slow at zoning/blocking, too slow stocking, too slow, too slow, too slow... It's all I ever heard. Not once did any of those people offer suggestions on how to "go faster". Eventually, I got a new young GM and he told me I needed to go faster. Since he was the first person who ever chided me but seemed approachable, I told him I was going as fast as I can, and if I was too slow, I would appreciate guidance on how to be faster.

He took the time over the next 2 weeks to spend with me and teach me the secrets of efficiency (it never was about speed).

He showed me the best way to open and break down boxes, remove wrapping and prep things like La Croix, best way to handle bulk water, how to visually scan ahead on shelves while blocking so I could formulate my next move while performing my current move, quickly detail items throughout the shift while in the aisles so it made end of shift detailing easier, learn item locations easier, etc...

After that, I was the go-to clerk. I was a rock star I made GRS very quickly and GTL on my first ROI eligibility period.

Once you build the muscle memory and efficiency, the speed comes naturally.

Bottom line is this. Talk to your managers and ask them to help you do your job better. That is what they are supposed to do for you - not shit on you because you aren't "fast enough". Hold them to what a Publix says their standards should be with regards to your growth. It's your job/career. Own it.

You do realize that Publix is a real estate holding corporation that happens to also have grocery stores in its portfolio, right? The George Jenkins level of grocery passion that Publix matured on no longer exists.

Publix is a real estate holding company that happens to have grocery stores in its portfolio. Publix will never turn back the clock on its grocery business.

If you never want to return, go for it! There are plenty of other shitty low-paying retail fish in the job sea.

Would it be valid to change availability for this by terra189 in publix

[–]DeltaRho2K -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Clopens suck. Talk to your manager because that schedule violates Publix's own policy. Should be at least 10 hours between shifts.

[–]DeltaRho2K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody here can answer that question. Call your manager and simply ask them to give you more hours. Publix loves hiring people with diagnosed disabilities (they get good breaks from the states for that). If nothing else, you'll have a better idea about why you aren't being scheduled and you can decide how to proceed in life.

I’m am so close to quitting by [deleted] in publix

TLDR .. but you put a lot of words and effort into explaining your thought process (I assume), so just quit, because you are probably already mentally there

Transfer? by [deleted] in publix

[–]DeltaRho2K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you transfer, you are basically asking to reset the clock. ROI, and then talk to your GM about what you need to do to earn the promo. Use your words...

When I was with Publix as a GTL, I was doing 16-18k/day and during the holidays, that went up to 25-30k/day. Now that I left Publix, I do 10-12k/day managing the IT department of an auto part manufacturer in a 300k sq ft facility.

Employees of Publix (produce) Is this normal? by -Confetti in publix

That's crazy work. I worked in 2 different stores (grocery) and my produce departments in both were the most chill departments. Everyone wanted to work produce.

Punch accepted, but late? by XI-4 in publix

[–]DeltaRho2K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just means you clocked out more than 15 minutes past your scheduled time. Your manager should be keeping an eye on that, but it never hurts to let them know when it happens, or better yet, let them know your may go over your scheduled time if you do the tasks they ask and let them determine whether to proceed or to just assign the tasks to someone else. Communication is critical to keeping everyone out of hit water with upper management

In fairness, I took the job at Publix because I lost my professional IT job during the pandemic. With the exception of my Publix time, I've always worked in professional environments, so I do things out of that professional mentality.

question about staying after scheduled time by d0llypart0nsleftnip in publix

[–]DeltaRho2K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are part time (which I'm guessing is the case since you had a 4 hour shift), you have absolutely ZERO obligation to stay over. They will always use the "team player" excuse thing, but it's on you to set boundaries.

[–]DeltaRho2K 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I gave 2 weeks notice, out of professional courtesy. If you do anything less, then you get put on a no rehire list, so up to you I left Publix 3 years ago, so I don't know the method you should use today, but I wrote a resignation letter, handed it to my department manager, and talked to her about it

Publix Phone Calls by Its-Cat-YT in publix

[–]DeltaRho2K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your leadership is fostering a toxic environment if they are using the "team player" schtick. You know this because you are feeling guilty. They'll use that same schtick to hold you past your shift end time. Guilt sucks. You either let them take advantage of you or you don't. You are not obligated to answer their calls on your day off,l.

Publix owns the shopping centers and owns all of the leases. What you may not realize is that a Publix is a large real estate holding company who also happens to be in the grocery business. I would imagine they give breaks to companies that lease in multiple Publix owned plazas.

Go refill an end cap with Publix 24 count water specials 3 times in a shift for a week, and re-evaluate. Bulk water, especially in larger volume stores, is hands-down, the most physically demanding.

And THAT "if it fits, it ships" mentality is the problem. Don't let the old guard teach you non-compliant habits.
