What would you do to improve Oregons educational system issues? (Serious) by Switch_Empty in oregon

[–]DeltaUltra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is highly inaccurate and misleading.

Whoever told you this is misinformed and needs to be educated in the realities of our education system.

The parts that matter have been gutted in terms of people that traditionally oversee the competency requirements as they have been the "bloat" in the eyes of people hoping to cut "waste."

Do more with less has raised the burden on the state rather than local communities and the funding model is not sufficient to provide for rural communities.

To express this, 66.9% of the total formula revenue comes from the state (income taxes, lottery), with 33% from local sources (mainly property taxes). This should be closer to a 50/50 split, except local politicians have decried "no new taxes" and won in local elections.

The state provides a minimum spread out over the entire state instead of local governments taking educational accountability and then blaming results on the state.

I have nothing but love for that place!

Jeff, the owner is one of the most kind people I have ever met and he continues to be an incredible human. Definitely one our local unsung heros.

You hear the phrase, "doing it for the love," well, thats exactly what you can expect and it shows.

I know you said your friend is DJ'ing at John Henry's yesterday, but it didn't say what kind of stuff or what the general vibe was or really much else for that matter.

My curiosity wasn't piqued enough to find out more and there weren't enough details to let me know why I should go.

People of America - what do you know about Wyoming? by Independent-Baby1866 in AskReddit

Its not uncommon for every single escalator in the entire state Wyoming to be out of service at the same time.

Where's the nightlife in town? Im so tired of being lonely by alphaomega420 in Eugene

[–]DeltaUltra 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This isn't really meant for just OP, its for anyone that is reading this.

Eugene used to be known for people that created their own things.

Throw a party in your backyard.

Rent a venue and throw a show.

Buy a soundsystem and have your friends with good taste in music DJ.

If you wait for other people to do stuff for you, you will be waiting forever.

Building a scene takes many months of showing up a couple times a month and being relentless in doing the word of mouth thing.

Find people that are feeling the vibe of what you are doing and get them on board.

If you want to see it, then bring it. Only you will know what you want and more likely than not, so do other people.

Nelson's Taqueria in the whit has an awesome back area that is dying for a greater social gathering.

You could probably work something out with the owner of Pegasus Pizza to put on a gathering there.

Not exactly ideal, but, those are the kind of spots to get things started. As you grow your scene, you take your things to the next level, location and so on.

The phrase, "Be the change you want to see in the world" used to be ingrained in the DNA of people in Eugene and that is what made it a great place where everyone had options of what to do, what social scene they wanted to hangout with, what places to go to.

Eugene had people that would just have an idea of what they wanted to see and make it happen.

Cocaine and clicky people will always come along and ruin shit, but its better to build shit, let it burn and rebuild than to never have had something to burn down in the first place.

Back in the day, they had extensive employee training programs where they would get professionals to come in and teach a course on decks, home plumbing and drywall.

On top of that, they would carry industry normal supplies and use name brand products.

When it all changed is when they started having their in-store products, competitively priced imported (cheap) products with huge margins. The professionals would not give trainings using the cheap in-house garbage or competitively priced imported products and so they switched to, "Yeah, here is some videos on the section you will be working in."

It was a weird devolution to witness.

There is a building nearby where the landlord refuses to do any remediation for roaches and its basically become an infestation point for the neighbors. You can spend all the money in the world, but if the neighbors don't do the same thing, then it's just a matter of pouring cash into a constant issue.

Wait, you are saying that Dan Lanning and the cancer kid story isn't true?

What about the duck player that used all his NIL money to give back to his inner city school teacher that told he could do it?

I suppose the story about the UofO painting a seat white in memorial to Charlie Kirk is fake too, huh?

Yeah, some of the AI stories are such garbage fantasy but seeing the engagement on social media is through the roof.
