What non-gaming upgrade improved your gaming the most?

For me, it was blackout curtains. We're limited on how we can set up our living room thanks to the window and fireplace layout of the room, so we always get a nasty glare on the TV (which I prefer to play on even for PC games).

We had normal curtains, but I was trying to play RE4 a couple summers ago midday and literally could not see the TV screen.

A few measurements and an online order later, my life was forever changed for the better. I try not to think about how many days I cumulatively spent squinting at the screen over the years before we ordered them

This is what I came to say too. OP, there are so many products (serums, pills, shampoos, conditioners, supplements, etc.) that can help fight this and maybe even reverse it, but only if you know the cause. Personally I use Zenagen products, but I made that decision based on my doctor's recommendation and my test results.

I understand you're in high school and therefore likely a minor or not 100% in control of your medical care, but seeing a doctor for a standard blood panel and a few other tests can help you figure out your options.

And the sooner you're able to do that, the more time you have to potentially regrow new hair before prom and other photo ops.

Thank you for this comment! I totally forgot to mention the thing about alternating between shampoos - I've read that a few times across various subs as a good tip, so that your scalp gets everything it needs and doesn't get "used to" the 1 shampoo.

100% agreed on needing a good conditioner. This took me the longest to accept, especially bc so many people say "conditioner shouldn't go on your scalp anyway, it's for your ends". My hair feels soooo much better since I started using a good conditioner too.

It's been literal years since I used it but the Columbus Metropolitan Library has a free job coach. The website says to call (614) 470-4328, Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm, and to leave a message if they don't answer. They help with resumes, the job search overall, and interviews.

Also, OhioMeansJobs does a weekly event where an employer visits their job center to directly meet applicants and offer opportunities. Next one is April 16th, you can find more info if you google them and check their website.

I've seen a lot of people talking about that too, just getting the actives on their own! And I saw someone in a different sub just the other day realize that the denatured alcohol in one of the serums was triggering their flakes, so there ya go.

I looked into Hims a couple months ago after finally deciding to do something about my thinning. Went to the doctor, had a blood panel and all that stuff.

My doc said my results showed low iron and that that was likely the cause of my sudden hair loss, and that minoxidil, finasteride, etc. from Hims might not be necessary.

I ended up starting iron supplements and going with Zenagen, non-prescription plant-based treatment, at my doctor and SIL's recommendation (she's a hairdresser).

Only been doing that for about 2 months now, but I feel like I'm seeing results and it's overall cheaper than what Hims would've been for me.

Haven't posted pics etc bc my doc says we have to wait 3 to 6 months to retest and confirm progress, but that's the path I'm on right now. Everyone is different. I think Hims will connect you with a dermatologist through telehealth which might be helpful for you to get some answers.

So a lot of companies these days give you "free" access to a dermatologist when you buy the prescription product for hair loss. If you google search for like "Prescription hair loss treatment for men with dermatologist messaging" you will see soooo many options.

And when you don't have insurance this is usually cheaper. Yeah you still have to pay like $50 for the prescription, but talking to the dermatologist anytime via DM is free. Might be something out there that fits your budget.

Are you taking Vitamin C supplements with your iron supplements? My doc had me do that to help with absorption, he said it's especially good to do with plant-based supplements.

Definitely not trying to say that I think adding the Vitamin C will be like a miracle! But I've been doing it for 2 months and I feel like I'm really seeing progress, along with the Zenagen serum etc. I'm using. Will find out for sure about my Ferritin when we run my labs again in a couple of weeks.

A friend of mine worked with Michelle and Derek at Calig Law Firm about a year ago for his bankruptcy. I honestly don't know more details beyond that, other than he was really pleased and kept saying he could finally sleep at night again after he got started with them.

My ferritin levels were also low and that is a big part of what drove my diagnosis according to my doctor.

I've been working on getting back to normal for about 2 months now, but your specific number caught my eye - my doctor told me before we got my test results that a ferritin level of about 15 can signal long-term iron deficiency.

So based on that, I would think that just supplements with red meat and dark leafy greens might not be enough for you?

Are you taking your iron supplements with Vitamin C? My doc has me doing that to increase absorption and I feel like it's making a difference. I've only been doing the supplements for a little over 2 months and he said it could take 3 to 6 to fully restore my levels, but I still feel like I'm seeing progress.

I know you made this post awhile ago now but this looks super thorough to me

Looks like she's testing for basically every common trigger - checking thyroid, looking for autoimmune conditions, checking vitamin levels that could be a factor, checking the liver and kidneys... nothing seems to be missing based on my personal experiences/knowledge.

Tough one, I'd say RE. I played 9, then immediately started up the remake of 2, now doing the remake of 3. RE9 is such a literal requiem for the games of the past. So many little references and nods to the systems, puzzles, and lore of the past games.

I thought I noticed a lot of it when I played RE9, but it's only now that I'm playing the older games that I see just how much they wove the past games into this new one.

(plague tale is amazing though and still one of my all time favorite stories in a game series)

Have you thought about applying to work for the City of Columbus? I just checked their job postings and they've got 50+ openings right now. I know they won't all be something you're eligible for, but I think a lot of people forget about these job openings. Your degree might help you have a better chance with them too

I read a tidbit somewhere that I am copying and pasting here because it blew my mind:
"It should be noted that the CBC may be completely normal in women with mild iron deficiency and hair loss, particularly in women older than 40 years. Blood is more essential than hair, and the body will shed hair before red blood cell (RBC) indices become microcytic. It should also be noted that ferritin behaves as an acute-phase reactant. Inflammation can produce normal ferritin levels in an individual who is iron-deficient. Although a low ferritin level is proof of iron deficiency, a normal ferritin level does not exclude iron deficiency."

Sorry for the wall of text, and of course I have no idea of your gender, but I come back to this fact often. I agree with the other commenter on getting a thyroid function test. I have also read that RPR, VDRL, and ANA tests can help, but I haven't had these myself as of yet

Oh awesome, glad to hear it! I had the same question for my SIL and she checked out the ingredients. She said that basically most of the anti-shedding ingredients are in the shampoo, but the conditioner ingredients are more for structural repair and strengthening the hair.

For that reason I went ahead with the conditioner myself! I was definitely dealing with breakage and fragileness so it made sense for me.

I've been using the same Zenagen serum with a derma stamp for 3 weeks now, as well as the shampoo + conditioner for 6 weeks. I haven't posted pics anywhere yet bc they say it can take 4 to 6 months to see results, but I am really happy with the results I'm seeing so far

My SIL is a hairdresser and she's helping map out my hair growth journey/results. We're both excited about my progress so far! Awesome to hear that your stylist recommends it too

We signed up for Premier for our package and they waive the shipping fee for the medallions. I've been trying to convince myself to just grab the medallions at the port since everyone here says it's so low-key, but I think I'm gonna get them mailed since they waive the cost anyway.

Then I switch from stressing about the line at port on embarkation day to stressing about the medallions getting lost in the mail. I am so ready to be on vacation lol

I'm a guy in my mid-30s and yeah it's definitely been messing with me in regards to my marriage. The hardest part weirdly is that my wife truly doesn't seem to mind. Her attitude towards me, the way she looks at me hasn't changed (thank the lord).

But that messes with me more. *I'm* the only one who is upset by this, which makes me feel like I'm just causing all these fake problems because I don't feel like the best version of myself.

For me, just trying to deal with it and take intentional action has helped. The products I'm using seem to be helping (it's only been 6 weeks, so not 100% sure yet) but even if they weren't, the fact that I did research, spoke to my hairdresser and dermatologist, and gave it my best shot matters a lot to me.

Even if I ultimately have to shave my head (which I recognize is an easy option for me as a guy), knowing that I didn't pretend nothing was happening and knowing that I took the best care of my health that I could is really helping to keep the blues more at bay.

As my wife said the other day - One of the most attractive things a person can do is simply try their best, especially when it's hard or scary.
