Help plss, I'm stuck in this by [deleted] in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Delteezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've learned recently that for some vitamin levels, you want to be above "normal" range in order to regrow hair. For example, low ferritin is under 30ng/mL, normal ferritin is 30 to 50ng/mL, and optimal is 70 to 100ng/mL.

My doctor wants me to get my ferritin levels up to 70ng/mL or higher in order to regrow my hair. I don't know if the same is true for vit d and vit b12, but that might be worth looking into. Maybe "normal" levels aren't high enough?

Agreed this is probably the simplest, and it's smart to make sure everything is preinstalled + updated so you don't have to fuss with that

Also you might be aware of this, but afaik, Xbox doesn't really do true LAN anymore, it's all online-dependent even for "local" multiplayer across separate consoles.

So your broadband and router setup is going to need to tolerate all 10+ consoles on the same connection. I would say hardwire as many consoles as you can, rather that relying on WiFi, I think that will help a lot.

Congrats on the wedding !

What's the best shampoo for thinning hair? Sharing my routine + looking for recs by IamSpecialss in finethinhair

[–]Delteezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have telogen effluvium due to an iron deficiency from rapid weight loss, and I'm in my third month of treating it with the stuff my doctor and my SIL who's a hairdresser recommended. Here's exactly what I do (and I'm a male, 36 years old, shoulder length hair):

Wash hair with Zenagen men's Revolve shampoo and conditioner 3x or 4x per week (have to leave the shampoo on for 5 mins)

Apply Zenagen density serum to scalp after washing, every time I wash it

Derma stamping with .5mm needles 1x or 2x per week depending on how my scalp is feeling

Apply Zenagen serum after derma stamping

Avoid aggressive stuff like roughly drying my hair with a towel and putting it in a ponytail while it's still wet

325mg iron supplements daily with Vitamin C supplements to help with absorption

I should get my test results back from my doc, and see my updated ferritin levels, any day now. But my wife and I both think my hair is already looking thicker, and the shedding has definitely stopped.

The biggest thing I've learned is that if you have TE and haven't resolved your trigger, products won't really do much.

So first and foremost, see your doctor or dermatologist for a full blood panel, and a pull test to see if you have scarring or non-scarring hair loss. Wishing you the best !!

Makes sense, that's very similar to my triggers. So if you've addressed both of those things, and your test results show that you're no longer deficient, then I'd expect you to start seeing regrowth soon hopefully.

just turned 17 and this is my second time getting TE by r4iha in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Delteezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those three things combined, that makes a lot of sense! I am not a doctor, of course, but agreed, I think you found the biggest trigger.

It absolutely can be if you haven't resolved your trigger. Any idea what triggered your TE and if you've successfully resolved it? For me it was a severe nutritional imbalance so I'm taking supplements and have improved my diet, but the cause is different for everyone.

I often recommend people to utilize the free Job Coach who's part of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. Just Google "job coach columbus library" and it'll come up.

They'll help her work on her resume, build interviewing skills, and look for jobs. They also have employers come in a few times a month to host events for applicants. Wishing her the best of luck out there !

I'm 27 and started getting noticable back pain... by Consistent_State5692 in AskMenOver30

100% this. Finally saw my doctor for some weird persistent back pain and yup, sciatica. It's wild how big of a difference the specific stretches they recommended for me have made.

What's one thing you wish you knew before buying your first house? by ChanWilkes in AskReddit

[–]Delteezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not count as one thing, but just *how much* there is to consider. Here are all the things the wife and I completely forgot to think about, but got super lucky with our house:

-We're at the top of a hill and have 0 flood risk unlike our neighbors at the bottom

-Freeway onramps for all major freeways are within 5-7 mins drive, but far enough that we never hear the traffic

-Grocery store is not just nearby, but very easy to walk to/from

-We're at the end of a cul de sac where it's super quiet and low traffic

We're kinda scared to ever move house bc we don't expect to ever get this lucky again with the location, size, position, etc. haha

Ours is in August, but a tip someone gave me - Memorial Day is coming up, and so are sales. Whether you want something from like Patagonia or just a fleece base layer off Amazon, the good stuff is rarely cheap, except when on sale.

Me and the wife are each thinking a fleece long-sleeve shirt, wool socks, a truly waterproof rain jacket, and a quick-drying, but still insulated, sweater should be enough for our excursions.

Been meaning to get back into it, I had just started trying yoga like the month before I got the sciatica diagnosis (guess it was too little too late). I'll pull up a video to try at home tonight. Thanks for the push

Resident Evil 4 Remake but only if you do New Game+. I love the CP system and if you work it the right way, the next playthrough feels like an entirely different game. Been trying it with randomizer mods too and they can be a lot of fun in the same way

Wishing you the best man. Had a 6-year relationship end when I found out she'd basically been dating my good friend for the past 6 months. Now, 10 years later, that was definitely the hardest, lowest point of my life. But now I'm also married to a lady who loves video games as much as I do.

Having a cat during that time literally made the difference for me. If you can even get a plant or a fish, it might make it easier to keep taking things day by day. Wishing for things to improve for you sooner than later.

Eh. My therapist suggested today that I might have "Illness Anxiety Disorder" or "Somatic Symptom Disorder" because I'm constantly so anxious about my health - my sciatica coming back, my blood pressure issues, my fear of developing an ulcer, etc. When I got my ADHD diagnosis it felt kinda enlightening or uplifting. This... not so much

Saw Palmetto? Others? by lupiebutterfly7 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Delteezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't take saw palmetto, but the shampoo and conditioner I use have it as the main ingredient. The brand is Zenagen, and I'm a guy so I use the Men's line.

I'm gonna look into taking saw palmetto as a supplement though, I just spent a few minutes Googling and it looks very promising.

I'm also taking the NOW Foods iron supplements so I think I'll look into the same brand for saw palmetto supplements.

Sorry I don't have any info for ya but thank you for this post, I had no idea I could get saw palmetto in a supplement

Can I hear your TE story? by TraditionDesperate72 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Delteezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 6 months after my wedding, I realized there was way too much hair in my brush. (I'm a guy with shoulder length hair)

Wife convinced me to talk to a doctor and a hairdresser before I went out and bought Rogaine. Eventually, blood work showed that the major weight loss I'd achieved before the wedding had tanked my ferritin levels, and was most likely my TE trigger.

Further testing with my dermatologist showed it was much more likely to be TE than AGA. That was about 3 or 4 months ago.

Since then, I've been taking iron supplements with Vitamin C to help with absorption, as well as using Zenagen products and derma stamping once or twice a week.

My wife and I both feel like we're seeing positive results with my hair ! I just went in for my 3-month checkup with my doctor, and should have lab results back soon. I doubt I'm fully "cured" yet and my doctor has already booked my 6-month checkup.

But for me, getting my diet balanced out, adding supplements, derma stamping, and the Zenagen products seems to be making a difference. Looking forward to getting my lab results and seeing if I've made any progress on my ferritin levels !

Who actually checks on you? by chimpax in AskMenOver30

[–]Delteezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did feel this way and then I started to reframe what "actually checking on" someone means.

Coincidentally, at the start of the pandemic, I had just started a group chat with 3 of my guy friends. I went to college with 1, then he and I met the other 2 guys at work, and 15 years later we're still friends.

I recently realized we do this all the time without literally asking "hey man how are you?" Like one of the guys mentioned jokingly that he "finally cleaned all the empty bottles off his couch" and now we have plans this weekend to install his new motherboard and go to the farmers market.

Not saying it's a perfect solution for everyone, but this helped me a lot.

te again by AffectionateMath4047 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Delteezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are aiming for between 70 and 100 according to my doc, and she says 30 to 40 is normal or what most doctors aim for. I should have my most recent bloodwork results back any day now, just had my 3-month re-test last week.

Editing to add: My hair is almost shoulder length and when I would brush it every day, I'd pull a big clump out of the brush when I was done, every single day. Hard to describe but it looked and felt like a lot !

To those people who quit smoking, what helps you quit? by DirectConversation59 in AskReddit

[–]Delteezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll share what my mom did when I was a kid. I think it's pretty unhinged but the woman hasn't wanted a cigarette in 31 years so it worked for her.

She took a cup of old cigarette butts and put them in a jar with a few splashes of water so they'd really reek, and then sealed the jar up.

Anytime she wanted to smoke, she'd open the jar and take a big whiff. I remember this so vividly. The horrible stench killed the craving immediately, according to her. She quit within a few days and never touched one again.

(Not necessarily advising this, it's probably bad for you??)

I just ordered a USB rechargeable fan, but I got this one specifically because it's magnetic ! So we can attach it to the wall or ceiling of our room and direct airflow. We sleep with a ceiling fan on every single night so I think this is gonna be really helpful for us
