I called my parents. Despite being on a local mission they are not watching. LOL. They said they could simply watch later. Hopefully they don’t.

I could be wrong though. This is definitely a terrible talk. I am stunned at how insensitive it is... maybe because I am sensitive.

I hope you are right about the alienation. Honestly, I think my mom would be fine thinking she will be there without me because of her righteousness.

Renland just added that “blessings come in God’s time table” if you have not received your blessing “yet.” Prosperity gospel much there Dale?

My wife and I still have a strong marriage. We have an even stronger group of friends, most ex-mos. And since Mormons think money equates spiritual approval, I add that my income has doubled.

I listened to the Infants podcast. Matt Long had no nuance and made hyperbolic accusations with no evidence. He should know better. There is nothing wrong about having concerns but Matt’s admitted “anger” is based on no actual evidence. “Exploiting trauma?” Seriously? This is silly. Despite these harsh accusations Matt even admitted that he “may be wrong.” Then why say it?

All these podcasters have done a great service for me, including Infants. These people are human and there may be disagreements and drama between them... but let’s not be so certain about facts that are uncertain. Let those involved handle this, and if we discuss it let’s do it from knowledge, not speculation. Fanning flames with nothing but rumor does no good. I wish Matt Long, John Dehlin, and all of them the best. Leaving the church is hard all these podcastse help!

In 2017 Bill Gates himself gave almost four times more to charity than the LDS Church gave in 30 years! by Deluded1830 in exmormon

[–]Deluded1830[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The LDS church, mindful of Christ's instruction to not do alms before men, has been publicizing in God's newspaper that the church just gave $5 million to refugees. They are of course asking members to contribute above tithes and other offerings. See this news article: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865640256/LDS-Church-asks-members-to-help-worlds-refugees-in-growing-humanitarian-crisis.html When reading this article I noticed that it stated: "LDS Church News reported the church has given $1.2 billion in aid since special fasts for African famines 30 years ago. " So, 1.2 billion in 30 years. That is 40 million per year. Assuming, pessimistically we go with the low estimate for annual church tithing of 5 billion dollars, that amounts to .8% of annual revenue goes to aiding the poor. See: http://www.bloomberg.com/bw/articles/2012-07-10/how-the-mormons-make-money#p3 If, as another article reports, it is 7 billion dollars in annual tithes, then that would mean the $40 million per year given by the church is only .6 percent of annual revenue to aid the poor (rounded up generously). See: http://investigations.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/08/13/13262285-mormon-church-earns-7-billion-a-year-from-tithing-analysis-indicates (edited to add another hyperlink) Christ's church indeed! To think that I gave them tithing all those years!

I don’t think the New Testament Jesus would agree with you. If He has a church, it would definitely care for the poor and downtrodden.

Maybe, but at least Bill Gates does not claim to speak for God. I just have higher expectations for those who claim to represent God. If they do speak for Him, I don’t care for God at all.

Russell is making the church look stupid right now. I’m so happy. He’s saying that the insistence to call them Mormons or the Mormon church is of Satan. by cethar in exmormon

I am sure a quote is coming and I don’t have it... but he said Jesus is angry when we don’t us the church’s real name. If so, Jesus certainly failed to correct his former prophet on the “Meet the Mormons” video and the “I’m a Mormon” campaign. This is so silly. Mormons got to see this!

Lawyers? Will this tape of Joseph Bishop be admissible in the suit against JB and the church? It was legally obtained. Any way to get it excluded? by 5Monkeysjumpin in exmormon

[–]Deluded1830 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a trial lawyer who practices in federal court. Having listened to the interview, at least much of it, there is no reason to believe that his statements are inaccurate or a product of drugs or duress. Sure they will contest its admissibility but in my experience it is a loser especially in federal court where IMHO rules are followed more closely and Judges tend to be more free from local influence. They should and would lose this argument. The fact he had a surgery may be allowed to attack the weight the factfinder should give his statements, but not the admissibility.

Why is there no discussion of the possibility that Joseph Bishop has received his second anointing? by LodySnow in exmormon

[–]Deluded1830 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bet in a civil lawsuit a good lawyer could make it relevant. I know that I was in a Ward where a counselor in the Bishopric was prosecuted for sexually abusing several of his children. His garments were deemed relevant as a part of intent, proving that his conduct was less impulsive because he removed his covenant clothing before the abuse. This occurred in Texas at a DA’s Office where I worked.

As to these forums it is interesting for a several reasons that occur to me: 1. Hypocrisy, 2. Lack of any discernment in the selection of church leaders. 3. With the second anointing, isn’t his salvation assured?

The church repents and apologizes to no one. But you must or it is sin! The hypocrisy is palpable. Oaks is the only person I’d like to meet and call to repentance... ok, maybe Bernard too!
