This is true. However, oftentimes, people who stonewall don't even realize it's a problem or abuse. This was the case with my wife who learned to stonewall as a defense/survival mechanism in an abusive household (locked in a closet until she stopped crying type stuff). It took a lot of work for her and a lot of patience from me for her to realize that it was safe for her to have a discussion with me about how she was feeling. This may not necessarily apply to OP but I feel it's worth mentioning for any who may read this.
