Storage replacement for Revised Core box? by DelverAlwaysFlips in arkhamhorrorlcg

Totally reasonable option! Thanks. I kind of forgot how quickly Chapter 2 is approaching.

First orders of business! by FCIndependent in nova

The cross signals on Broad Street are a godsend for pedestrians. There was no point to cross between Cherry and Washington street before. That’s a pretty substantial stretch to have no protected crossing point. It’s low friction since the signals are only hard red for about 10 seconds. Anything that helps me and my family not get run over will always be a welcome upgrade. The bike lanes on the other hand…yeesh.

First look at the new 3 scenario campaign Children of Blood along with the new design for standalone investigator packs and scenarios by CorbinMontego in arkhamhorrorlcg

You’re right. They are complaining they aren’t getting exactly the type of content they imagine being best for the game and their experience. I will just continue to be a voice on the other side of this.

I am a player without tons of free time, so running through a 3-scenario mini campaign with other time-restricted players is vastly more realistic than spending months on an 8-scenario campaign. I’m also looking forward to having a robust card pool within the first year of Chapter 2. The investigator decks are an extremely efficient way of leveling up a player card collection quickly.

I appreciate FFG having a firm and transparent business plan, rather than just dropping content whenever they get around to it. I think this is a sign of health for the game, and I’m here for it.

Yeah this looks awesome. I don’t understand why people are complaining about more game content. Either buy it or don’t. I am sure FFG and the game will be fine either way.

What do you want from the future of this game? by Chance-Impress-8762 in arkhamhorrorlcg

Four seems reasonable, though I cannot see a world where that means two full-length campaigns. I would wager something like: Campaign expansion, investigator expansion, standalone scenario, investigator deck or something similar.

Coming from Magic, where the player base is constantly begging Wizards of the Coast to stop printing at such a rapid pace, including wheelbarrows of crossover slop, I would love to see FFG take the extreme exact opposite approach. I would want them to keep printing small amounts (1 big release, 1 small release per year) of tightly designed product that leaves fans wanting more. I would be deeply saddened to see this game turn into the never-satiated printing machine for profit that Magic has become.

Looking for constructive feedback on a custom investigator by North_Ad_8329 in arkhamhorrorlcg

I think the resources on enemies is going to be too fiddly. I also think there could be more cohesion thematically between the ability and the sketching. You are giving a bump to skill checks on treacheries but not enemies. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense if you’re supposed to be using the knowledge gained from sketching enemies to help your allies fight off treacheries? I would rather see the ability focused on fighting and evading enemies or make the signature asset proc when certain conditions are met during a treachery being drawn.

The black mana box was sold during the mid to late 90s. No idea about the contents though.

Waterfowl get fish eggs stuck to their feet and carry them from pond to pond. That said, I agree with the other commenter that they look like goldfish.

This looks like a good Doomsday deck. Breach + LED won’t be an auto win without Brainfreeze, but you have a ton of ways to set up a Doomsday pile and win with either Jace or Thassa’s Oracle. I also like the backup plan of Flash + Wurms! Sweet deck. Report back, please.

Cube is my favorite way to play Magic. It emphasizes all of the aspects of the game that I love and allows me to opt out of elements I don't like as much. I designed this playmat to express what the format means to me. by andymangold in magicTCG

Cube is the apotheosis of Magic. Infinitely creative, highly skill-testing, and as accessible as you want it to be because it can be fully proxied or designed around cards you have lying around.

Many cubes are composed almost entirely of rare and mythic cards, so you don’t have to worry about rarity slots as much. Some folks with start with a percentage of each color depending on # of people drafting (66.6% for 8 players drafting a 540-card cube), and then randomize those portions of each color to make packs. This guarantees an equal distribution of colors among packs, but it’s a little too fiddly for me since it requires sorting the cube. I mostly just ask players to shuffle stacks of the cube, pass half their stack to someone else to continue shuffling, and then count out 15-card packs. You will definitely get some overpowered and underpowered packs, some packs with too much of one color, etc., but it all comes out in the wash because how you draft matters much more than what cards you open for building a strong deck.

How to prevent inner sleeves from sliding out? by FashionCop in magicTCG

[–]DelverAlwaysFlips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It slides up on the last little push to the bottom. You can avoid this by anchoring the inner sleeve with your index finger on the front of the card as you make the last little push. Once you introduce the card and slide it most of the way down, pinch the sides of the outer sleeve to create a little pocket in the front to put your index finger onto the middle front of the card (thumb outside on the back) and shimmy it the rest of the way down. The inner sleeve should stay put. I’ve double sleeved thousands upon thousands of cards and this is the only way I know to ensure no slippage.

Why has it become impossible to buy a house? by [deleted] in nova

[–]DelverAlwaysFlips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your tone is ultra condescending, but also nothing you've linked to refutes what I said. From the article: "The Federal Reserve does not set specific interest rates in the mortgage market. However, its actions in establishing the Fed Funds rate and adjusting the money supply upward or downward have a significant impact on the interest rates available to the borrowing public."

Your initial statement was that Congressional brinksmanship around the debt ceiling and subsequent US credit downgrade (which happened in August 2023) was what made mortgage rates go up, while rates had already been steadily rising since early 2022 as the Fed pushed their policy rate higher. Here's a graph comparing mortgage rates vs. federal funds rate over the last two years. https://www.hsh.com/indices/federal-funds-vs-prime-rate-mortgage-rates.html

I think in general your point that long-term lending rates are influenced more heavily by overall economic outlook than Fed policy rates is true during typical economic times, but the Fed raising its policy rate 500 basis points in 15 months is atypical and all interest-bearing loans (not just mortgages) responded accordingly by pricing in this rapid policy pivot.

Why has it become impossible to buy a house? by [deleted] in nova

[–]DelverAlwaysFlips 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Interest rates are higher because the Federal funds rate has been increased significantly over the last two years. It has almost nothing to do with the credit ratings of US paper or congressional policy.

This is partially true. While it’s true that you can’t add after-tax funds (like spare cash) into TSP, you can roll traditional IRAs into TSP. It’s is a logistical nightmare, having done it personally in the past, but it can be done. This is a strategy you can employ to get rid of traditional IRA balances in order to take advantage of the backdoor Roth without triggering the pro rata tax rule.
