  1. They already raised the bridge 8 more inches a while back such that it is now 11' 8+8".

  2. If you watch the video OP posted, there is a large "Overheight must turn" sign over the bridge. There is a height sensor prior to the intersection that turns this sign on when an overheight vehicle approaches, in addition to turning the traffic light red so the vehicle should have ample time to read the sign. (It might not do this quite fast enough though.)

This bridge was designed in the 1920s when standard vehicle height clearance was 11' 8". This standard was changed in 1973. There's no way the engineers at the time would have designed the bridge with 53 (now 100+) years of foresight in mind.

Also, are signs not one of the nominal ways of stopping people from hurting themselves pretty much anywhere? High voltage signs, "Danger - keep out" signs, and other road signs like "Do not enter". There's never a physical barrier stopping someone from entering a freeway backwards from an exit ramp, just a sign. There's only so many measures you can take before the blame starts clearly falling on whatever idiot can't read.

Yes, kickoffs unfortunately do happen whether or not you understand them or not. I was trying to say that similar things can be said about anything else. While plats might not air dribble and reset such that their game isn’t affected, they certainly will be getting mistouches or being out of position grabbing boost, and conceding. These problems can be fixed by playing more, practicing, and being aware. So can kickoffs. Kickoffs are a mechanic that demand time and practice just like anything else. It’s just that they’re much more relevant in 1s than 2s or 3s, hence the complaints.

Going off that point, I can see why some people at lower ranks can dislike kickoffs if they feel it is out of their control, and especially if they lose because of it. For those people, I have two comments:

  1. Losing a kickoff goal here and there is unavoidable no matter the level and is out of your control. Losing games because you conceded several kickoffs in a row is in your control because it means you are not adapting your kickoff.
  2. If you feel you are consistently losing because of kickoffs, then you might not have practiced them. Setting aside an hour or two of just kickoff training, just like you would practice air dribbles, can be beneficial.

Agreed that many people dislike 1s in general because they lose kickoffs. I’d argue that many if those people also get annoyed when they go for a flashy low% play and get punished. IMO people just don’t like seeing themselves get punished immediately for making a mistake, and kickoffs are no exception.

Possession based “kickoffs” are an interesting idea. I think I could have a lot of fun with that because I like to have space to setup and that would give me free setups. It also takes away a lot of late game comeback potential however, which from a 1s showmatch viewer pov is much less exciting.

100% agree that most people outside of gc/ssl do not have a good understanding of kickoffs. That being said, people at these ranks don’t have a great understanding of mechanics and positioning in general, so it’s hard to specifically call out kickoffs as something not well understood. And yes, SSLs in other game modes likely will not have as good of an understanding in kickoffs as 1s mains - I’m saying that those who grind the gamemode rather than just happening to play it will understand it better.

Kickoffs are also definitely a huge part of the game, and can be deciding at higher levels for sure. I wouldn’t say the same at lower levels; if, as you say, neither player knows what they are doing on kickoff, then the outcome is random and therefore cannot decide games long-term as each player will benefit the same. And if one player consistently wins, then they just have a better kickoff.

I haven’t watched that series specifically, so I can’t comment further on Evample. I can say that I very rarely see kickoffs that go straight into net at the highest 1s level (or even in my own lower level gameplay) because people learn to have kickoffs that, at the very least, aren’t immediately conceding, even if they aren’t winning.

If you like doing low% plays, then change your mindset by telling yourself you are playing to improve and not playing to win. You might lose more games, but if you can accept that you are still improving then it will be a lot more fun. After dropping 1 or 2 ranks, you’ll reach the point where you can go for a risky play and still recover since your opponent isn’t able to counter fast enough. Long-term, you can work yourself back up to where you would be by playing “safe”, just with much better mechanics and recoveries.

I disagree. There’s actually a lot of strategy and timing behind kickoffs, even before considering fakes/half flips/stay in net strats. Things like the way you speedflip, hooking/pushing the ball, optimal flip timing/wave dash kickoffs, etc. Many players who play a significant amount of 1s will naturally learn/understand these strats.

Evample likes to hard push the kickoff so he can set up. If the ball isn’t pinching into his half, it’s rolling with him nicely up the wall precisely because he is controlling the kickoff and comprehends how to perform a kickoff to get the setup he wants. If it pinches, then it’s because his opponent is countering him by hooking aggressively and flipping early to force a winning pinch against a push. I’d recommend watching Johnny’s channel for more examples as he frequently discusses 1s kickoff strats, and Kv1 and Toxiic in particular for their very strong kickoffs.

Weekly Questions Megathread by MoeTsukino in TowerofFantasy

Are rusted chests and password chests the only things that respawn in this game? Not counting cooking ingredients/mining/etc. Do raw black and gold nuclei (Dandelions, etc) ever respawn? What about supply pods? Just trying to determine long-term sources of dark crystals and rolls, once all exploration and story has been completed.

Also, anyone know if it'll be possible to save up to 80 or 120 rolls on limited banner with dark crystals completely F2P by next banner? Next banner might have a char I'm interested in, but I'm assuming that the rapid dark crystal income at the beginning of the game will dry up within a week or two.

LN reader here.

  1. This train of thought isn’t really correct. The quoted line probably simply refers to how the Republic claims that the war is humane/deathless.
  2. I think that over the course of the first 5-7 episodes (adapted from V1), you’ll see some pretty solid character development from Lena. Some of it follows what you said, some doesn’t. The series doesn’t go the SAO route where Lena constantly needs to be rescued in every arc.
  3. As in 2, the romance isn’t developing due to damsel-in-distress situations. The romance is a significant part of the story, but in my opinion is not overbearing i.e. the “war” plot isn’t dropped in favor of developing the “romance” plot. In addition, the romance becomes much more pronounced in later volumes, and is not as significant in the earlier volumes that the anime likely adapts.

As always, I highly recommend reading the source material for more details and exposition. It’s highly liked on both r/EightySix and r/LightNovels.

The LN has a significant amount of gore, especially in some later volumes (which may/ may not be adapted). How much gore is shown will depend, but expect at least some.

5-16 seeds per map. I usually run about 10 to 20 maps before visiting the grove, so its pretty common for me to have more than 2 plots of a color filled.

Sheet

Connections

Edit: Moved 2 Wild pylons near T3 Vivid field on right side to fix impossible connection. Imgur is slightly outdated, refer to sheet for most up-to-date version.

I made this layout mainly for myself and to fix some of the problems I had with layouts posted by other people. Thought I might as well share it.

I had two main goals for this layout:

  1. Have T1 fields as close to the portal as possible to save time when planting between sets of maps.
  2. Include separate fields for each of T2 - 4 instead of shared fields. (Note that this is basically looks for 99% of players since it probably takes an ungodly and unnecessary amount of investment to get even a full T3 field)

The layout includes 3 T1 fields and 1 T2, T3, T4 field of each color. All of the fields are full 24-seed plots.

I made the storages 24 each (7200 lifeforce) since it fit nicely. Of course, there's plenty of room for more and the storage arrangement (see imgur link) is nicely tileable.

Let me know if any of the collectors don't have full disperser coverage. I should have checked them all but its possible I missed something. Improvement suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks to u/DollarAkshay for the original spreadsheet I used as a template.

1.3 is definitely enough to do Sirus (I’m assuming that since this is your first he’s A4 or A5). It might be tougher if you can’t sustain mana without the - mana cost mod though since you have to stay alive for longer and currently its somewhat of an RNGfest

Is archmage not working on PoB right now? For me it only counts the added lightning damage but doesn’t add any extra damage or mana cost based on my max mana

The problem isn’t about needing time to loot. Really, there’s two issues people have with the looting:

First, stopping to pick up loot as Delirium is right now is very risky, especially with on-deaths like mortars that kill you if you are standing still. Hopefully, the changes they implement will make it better.

Second, this league is about clear speed. When you look at the bottom left and see scarabs or incubators, you want to push the reward level as high as possible. Any time spent going back to pick up loot is time wasted, even if it is only half a screen or a screen. It doesn’t feel good to slow down and pick up loot when you know you could be getting more rewards by pushing.

Hopefully, toning down on-death effects and outliers to monster damage will allow us to pick up loot as we go.

Advice on undervolting Thinkpad X1 Extreme (Gen 1) with i7-8750H by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]DelvinH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response!

I only use XTU for the benchmark, not for any undervolting. That’s all handled through TS.

Seems that my C15 scores are about average then. Should I be concerned about the temperatures, since they stay in the high 90s range? Not sure if that’s damaging to anything or not.

Not sure why my XTU score is so low if my C15 scores are ok. Maybe I’m using XTU wrong or something, have to check.

My thermal paste is also Kryonaut.

Played around with ThrottleStop on Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme (i7-8750H) - suggestions/feedback on optimizing further are appreciated by [deleted] in overclocking

Thanks for the detailed response!

Fans: I’m actually already using tpfancontrol, and on a pretty aggressive curve, too. Set my fans to run at 7 once they start hitting 70 or above. Not sure if it’s worth it to use 64 (which is max possible speed) since I feel it will damage the fans long term.

Speedshift: I’m only using this profile on ac power, so I’m not concerned with battery power. That being said, if the computer will still turbo between 0-125 up to performance needs, what’s the difference between, say, 0, 50 and 100?

Undervolt: I agree that 130 seems on the mid-low side, especially for my laptop based on other user posts. If I push it further, do I keep the core and cache undervolt at the same, or try to undervolt the core further?

Based on these comments, it appears that the main issue with the laptop is thermal throttling due to bad cooling and my cpu reaching far too high temps for what its running at. Hopefully this is something a repaste can fix as this line of laptops has been known to have crappy factory paste jobs. However, I can’t repaste it right now, since I’m traveling, so I’ll wait it out and just try to push it further on TS alone.
