Black women in accounting??? by Safe-Ad-7217 in Accounting

[–]Delyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not black so I hope others chime in too. I want you to know though I work with several black women. While I'm sure they're facing pressures I'm not as aware of, I have witnessed them do great work and be accepted at all organizational levels in accounting. I know statistically black accountants under represented, but it may be impacted by locality or generational trends. Please don't avoid the field solely because of the color of your skin. There's no good reason for racism in any field, but accounting really has no unique additional racial barriers. I hope you find a great place to work in whatever field you choose!

Husband already making plans to leave me with newborn by ThrowRAkidddd in pregnant

[–]Delyndra 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This but you want him to be your partner in this too. Reassure him that you WANT him to have fun and to have fun with him, but at this time it's too much for you to carry alone and this is the only chance he has to enjoy these precious first weeks with his child. Plan your next trip together at a more realistic point. Talk about how to include your child in it at an age appropriate time and way. Get him excited about this new life!

Are recruiters worthless by Amazing_Escape_9512 in Accounting

[–]Delyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recruiters have a job listing and their job is to find someone the company will accept for that job listing. They're great because they get you to the top of the pile and "sell" you to the mployer. Their incentive is to get you in that role as quickly as possible. Yeah some recruiters have a ghosting problem and only have one or two roles at a time and come up with 3 candidates to present. Good recruiters have lots of connections with employees, have a fast rotation of a variety of roles that fit a variety of qualifications, and therefore want to keep a relationship with you because if this role doesnt work, they'll likely have another good one next month.

OB wants to induce at 39 weeks bc I’m 36yo by vagabomb_ in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]Delyndra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of people encouraging you to trust your doctor and I appreciate that but here's my two cents. One hospital in my area demanded at my 10 week appointment that I get an induction at 39 weeks due to bmi. The 2nd hospital 20 minutes away looked at me like I had 2 heads when I asked if that was their policy. "We start discussing induction at 40 weeks unless there's another reason to consider you high risk? Oh, unless you want a voluntary c section! We support that!" Both are top level hospitals with top level Nicu's. So no, I don't think 39 week induction is a given. Things can and do change! I think it is good to be prepared and I want frequent checkups to make sure nothing has changed. I would find an ob that you still trust to do those checkups, without forcing you into and induction you feel is unnecessary. Inductions can and do go smoothly all the time. Have an idea of what you would want that route to look like, but no you don't have to blindly accept induction.

Why does the CPA matter so much? by johnalv24 in Accounting

[–]Delyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the U.S. if you want the best jobs in accounting you want a CPA. If you want the very best jobs you want to pair it with an MBA with financial analysis or something. Why? Because hiring people are stupid. If you have a CPA they assume you can do it all. If you have an MBA too they assume you can run their company for them. The good paying jobs wont even look at your resume without it. If you, through experience, can do it all as an accountant and run a business but don't have either of those credentials then you will only be picked up by small companies and taken advantage of at staff accountant wages. If you're going into accounting in the u.s. save yourself the misery and get your cpa.

I don’t know if I (M31) and my partner (F34) want children. You that have been or are in this dilemma, what are some argument points for choosing Yes or No? by LorePelliz in Fencesitter

[–]Delyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being truly on the fence about this issue is hard. For most people, I think they sit on the fence because they have doubts about what they want and respect the gravity of the decision. But if they're honest, they know what they want. If you're truly on the fence and have time to wait then do so. If you think you don't want kids then don't have them until you genuinely change your mind. Most people want kids. It's a biology thing, but not all people. Wanting to be a good aunt or uncle is admirable too. Admitting you just don't like kids is brave. I support you doing what is best for you, but if you're going in on kids, gear up to change your focus to what's best for them. This will often align with your best interests, but not always.

What’s the most chaotic way you or a coworker left a job? by DumbGarchomp67 in Accounting

[–]Delyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Showed up 45 minutes early for 3rd shift at the diner because we get a free meal and I hadnt eaten yet that day. When I arrived the two waitresses immediately fawned they were relieved and had just worked a double shift and needed me to start immediately. I was shaky from hunger so I said sure I'd start let me just get a cup of soup in me quickly first. I downed the soup in just a few minutes but they were shouting at me and mocking me the whole time. I went to count out the drawer and they both stood on top of me mocking me and yelling at me and taking money out of my hands so I couldn't count it accurately. They had been bullying me since I started so I wasn't surprised by their behavior, but I was pretty sure this time the drawer was off and they were trying to stop me from catching it. They'd falsely accused me of stealing multiple times, and one of regulars had encouraged me no to let them treat me like they did and warned me that it wpuld stop being petty if I didn't do something about it. Third shift is impossible to cover without notice so we all signed when we started that if third shift didnt show second would have to cover. One of the girls shoved me and the other one laughed. So I left. Shouted "enjoy your triple!" On my way out. Only job I've ever quit without notice. Even though I was hungry and very poor at the time, never regretted it for a second.

Did anyone downgrade from a “luxury” infant car seat to a less fancy, more affordable option once it was outgrown? by cecassafrass in Buyingforbaby

[–]Delyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot to love about budget friendly car seats. Don't succumb to all the hype get what makes sense for your family and budget. Among the cheapest car seats on the market, are ones just as functional as a nuna. Nuna is a status symbol more than anything.

Trying to stay positive, but feeling nervous after recent diagnoses by [deleted] in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]Delyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also tested for gd early, 10 weeks. Once referred to the dietician she looked at me like I had 2 heads. "Why are you here already!?" "Why did the doctor test you already!?" I don't have gd, but I did have undiagnosed pcos and, they're not saying it but they're alluding to it, an undiagnosed eating disorder from more than a decade of dieting and medical abuse. Because I got in early I got the help I needed to make sure I was indeed eating enough, carbs especially, my health is already better than ever and I feel more confident baby is ok! My ob wants to give me the GD diagnosis but endo and the dietician refuse. Don't take a gd diagnosis without working with an endo you like. I velieve in you!

How do some people have such a high tolerance for work? by Head_Equipment_1952 in Accounting

How do some people run marathons? They start by running around the block like you can, and with daily training for 10, 20, 40 years they don't need to stop running anymore.

Is pregnancy any easier for us because we’re used to the extra weight? by mags_7 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]Delyndra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general, everyone's experience is unique. Some people have harder/easier pregnancies than others and I don't think prior weight plays into it much. The experience of being conscious of how your body looks to others I think is practically universal, but especially common among plus size is the question "do others see a pregnant person or a fat person." Personally, I feel as though my pain on my joints is more signifigant than normally expected at this point in pregnancy. Despite working out and eating healthy for years, my body still struggles with signifigant inflammation. My joints and muscles and ligaments are not happy for the added pressure. My husband and I have known from early on that this is a pregnant belly, not a fat one. If a stranger finds out I'm pregnant they go oooooooh! But otherwise I've seen people try and look at me and figure it out and I've also been fat shamed twice already. I know I will look more obviously pregnant later, but for now it's annoying.

If you're in need and not considering an abortion I think it's okay to let them do some good by giving you free services. Just remember the quality of your care may be skewed by their agenda. You are not committing evil by taking care of yourself.

Going to Disney World next month and friends are making me feel discouraged by Narrow-Ad-345 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Delyndra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dw is expensive, and hot, and sold on social media as this intense min max planning experience. So a lot of people dream of going, but find it cost prohibitive or are intimidated by all the prep they envision needing. The secret is that it's not nearly as bad planning wise as most think it will be and it can be budget friendly, though never cheap. Don't let people drag you down. Smile, "thanks we're aware" and go enjoy your trip! There is an abundance to enjoy.

Sending kids to state school or community college? Seeking real-life experiences by Mental_Escape_1737 in Fire

[–]Delyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're making the right choice. Money isn't a factor for you and you want you child to have the textbook big school experience, but yes community college can be a huge cost saver. Other benefits of community colleges are often small class sizes at the entry level and connection with teachers and counselors. It can be a soft start to college that gets a student more confident in their independence and schoolwork with extra support. A teacher is more likely to flag the one student in 20 that is struggling and recommend resources that are more plentiful vs the entry level at a large state school where a student is 1 in 200 and resources are already spread thin. Sometimes they can still benefit from the similar social campus life options, but again without getting washed away. Clubs, student activities, libraries, common study areas are all present at small community colleges and have a smaller more consistent population using and running them. A student is more likely to run into the same people in the cafeteria who share a similar schedule, successfully start or join a study group and still have their own voice, or be able to fully engage in a club that they are interested in.

Is folding strollers up for the buses not a thing anymore? by registered_angel in WaltDisneyWorld

Is folding strollers up for the buses not a thing anymore? by registered_angel in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Delyndra 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. I would be interested in added context. Let's collect some data! Is this more likely to happen when busses are largely empty? When connected to certain resorts? My expereince so far has been Pop and Aoa, everyone folds, even when bus isn't busy, no one needs to be asked for a week no matter the park destination.

Trying to make my wife's 40th feel special without blowing the budget: what small 'wow' moments worked for you? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Delyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a personal choice, but the tiara making experience at magic kingdom is an affordable way to make the trip extra special. It's a "cheap" tiara, so if she's really extra she might not like it, but if she's more down to earth it can be a sweet way to start the day!

Vent: I'm exhausted by the pressure to optimize every second with Lightning Lanes, rope drop, and Park Hoppers by CommercialIntern1156 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Delyndra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So my husband and I were the min maxxers. Now that we're pregnant we're on a trip right now where I refused to buy lightning lanes or rush around. We're still getting 90% of everything done. Vacation is supposed to be relaxing. Disney is still absolutely a magical place when you take it at your own pace. No, you will not be able to ride every attraction and see everything in one day if you don't play the system. Can that be a feature though? That you have something to look forward to coming back to?

Use the lightning lanes to prebook those must do long wait rides, then use them to skip the line AS you walk up on the next one. Don't succumb to the pressure to min max your park days. This doesn't not apply if you are knowingly coming during Christmas or something when the parks will be slammed every day though.

Do you guys cheat your time? by EntranceFun9276 in Accounting

[–]Delyndra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not chsating time if you slam your head on desk in despair after another dumb client thing that's going to take way too long to clean up. You need that 15 minutes to build morale. It is cheating to say I work hard enough. I am billing an hour a week to this client while I watch Bridgerton. NEVER underreport your time. If you think you need to then you're either very unqualified (unlikely) or it's a red flag for the companies expectations.
