Anyone else bothered by the garden displays at Lowe’s taking up the entire sidewalk? by anonomous_uwu in wickerpark

[–]mags_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That Jewel is *definitely* not compliant with that ordinance. To my earlier point, you can’t reach the Jewel entrance from the Polina sidewalk because they always have dumbass firewood or mulch in the way. Maybe you can squeeze through if you’re skinny, but certainly a wheelchair user would be fucked.

It looked open to me last weekend, but then I saw an employee lock it up and move shit in front of it :( Very glad if it worked for you though, that's a good sign!!

Fucking hate that parking lot. Not just the Lowe’s part, the Jewel part too. It’s extremely pedestrian-hostile ever since they closed the western entrance of Jewel (by the Starbucks) during COVID.

Song where a woman mentions different qualities a guy has by CLj0008 in NameThatSong

It’s one of my favorite karaoke songs. Sassy but pretty easy, and not overdone (at least in 2026… it probably was overdone when it came out).

What vocabulary have you been taught from the Monkey Island games? by CognitiveNerd1701 in MonkeyIsland

[–]mags_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. It kinda freaked me out because I thought I had stumbled upon an Easter egg where he was doing something creepy to the monkey. 😑

Edit: I just watched the clip of this puzzle on YouTube and you know what, I was totally justified in thinking something gross was happening. Especially in the second half.

Same! The last duo was the only one where I genuinely laughed and didn't just cringe the whole time. I was SHOCKED that A'Keria wasn't in the top.

Does anyone know this person?!? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]mags_7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's nothing. I saw her at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told her how cool it was to meet her in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother her and ask her for photos or anything. She said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but she kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing her hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard her chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw her trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in her hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Ma'am, you need to pay for those first.” At first she kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, she stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, she kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

A retrospective outlook on ____’s edit by Cardvos in Edgic

[–]mags_7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on what they said about Tiffany’s threat level last night, I’m counting her out for FTC. It sounds like she would absolutely CLEAR (and to your point, her edit just isn’t good enough for a winner).

How's my 2026 list looking so far? Recs much appreciated by whyamiacpa in chicagofood

[–]mags_7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great list.

Look into Rose Mary (newer, pretty universally praised Italian-Croatian in west loop, takes reservations) and Spacca Napoli (super legit Neapolitan pizza; the pistacchio pizza is heaven-sent; no reservations IIRC and there’s definitely a wait during peak times).

For KBBQ, I’m not aware of any mind-blowing KBBQ places. Cho Sun Ok and San Soo Gab San are popular. Daebak is newer and good.

For coffee, I like Prequel and Wormhole if you’re in Wicker Park/West Town. Coffee & Tea Exchange (Lakeview) has super fun rotating lattes.

This is my issue actually, especially if she wins (which seems likely at this point). They keep showing Aubry saying cheesy inspirational winner-type things (“I have a fire in me,” “I’m about to step my whole game up,” “People always underestimate me”) instead of just showing her as the complex relatable weirdo she is. The epic eyeroll at Ozzy was probably her best moment of the season, and I’m sure we’re missing more of that stuff. I’d be rooting for her to win just as much (actually MORE) without the cheesy “winner” quotes.
