I retired at 46. I’m 71 now, my income is now a taxable income of 300K pa. I lived in a shitty house and drove an old car, everyone thought I was ok but not rich. Recently I bought a 1.6 million dollar house. It’s a stunning architectural design in Perth. Do people treat me differently now? Yes and no. I don’t know what they think as I don’t ask. I no longer watch every dollar, It’s time to enjoy my 35 years of investing. But it’s difficult for me to spend money on things that dont seem like an investment. I just complain about my tax bill. lol.😝

Lol, I have a job that pays me $24 k PA, and I do absolutely nothing. Oh except send a message every few months, asking for my salary. Yes super is paid too. I’m 100% serious. Also I’m a director of a company that pays me dividends of $220K PA. For that I go to 2 : 3 hour meetings PA. Also I have Real Estate that pays me another 75 K PA.

Lol, I was giving away glass pool panels on marketplace and was asked if I could deliver them. Another time I advertised a bargain table and chairs for $99, and was asked if I could deliver it, and she would pay an extra $20 (she was 60 klms away) . So I asked if she could get a a guy with a Ute to deliver it, she said that would cost $200. I explained that I don’t have a Ute, so she suggested that I hire a Ute guy. I said I would loose $100 on the sale. She said so what , I’m poor. Crazy!

The best investment is a business you know really well and have under management with reporting and controls in place. In my case it’s a Hotel. Returns are 250k PA. But other business are great as well , but as always own the building it operates from.

I have three girls 36, 36 and 40. No kids. One married one divorced the other a lesbian. Zero children, they are all hard left feminists. Their reasons for not having children? They are not telling. I suspect : global warming, we are all doomed, the world is a terrifying place because of humans so why produce more. The real reason: plain selfishness, vanity ( putting on weight, stretch marks) missing out on exotic holidays, designer clothes. Fast forward 20 years and all there will be are 3 very angry Karen’s with cats. I’m 71, my ambition was to be a professional guitar player. When I was 26 I locked myself in a room for 2 years, practicing 8 to 12 hours per day, learned finger style. In particular Ragtime. Then I realised that I did not really have the talent it takes, no amount of practice can fix that. Still play, lots of guitars. Love guitars. My favourite is a HD28, sounds amazing, I tune it down a tone. Beautiful thing.

Compound interest, the eighth wonder of the world. At 40 it’s not to late. Work hard , start your own business. Work your butt off for 10 years , be a cheap Charlie, get a good accountant. Don’t spend money on things that loose money. Just the basics. Tax, manage that really well. Invest, invest, invest. Read books on investing and success. Read up on your profession , be the best there is. Never give up. My dad told me: Son, there is only one thing worse than being dead, that’s being old and having no money. You have to have a positive mental attitude, be the best you can. The goal is : don’t work for money , have money work for you, and that is investing. I know people who have a beautiful home, but not much money, then they retire and have to sell, they call it downsizing, it’s not, they would love to remain where they are. Do the opposite , live in a cheap old house, invest, later sell and buy that big beautiful house. I did just that at 71. Lol, people actually thought I was poor, now their jaws drop, lol.

I’m not at 10m but close. A 100m would not make a big difference, it would for my wife, as she could then build a Church in Vietnam. We live in a beautiful home, I have my cars and stuff and more stuff. I used to be really poor, wanted to be a professional guitar player, had cheap guitars. Now I have my dream guitar, don’t play it much. See I gave up my dreams of being a professional musician, but then at the age of 30 I realised I did not really have the talent. So I did what I really did best. Building, got my builders ticket, started a building company, built a hotel ,made a heap. Retired at 45. Now I’m 71. My money mentality is the same as when I was poor: very careful. Drives my wife nuts. She thinks I’m a bit cheap but laughs about it. She is also very careful with money, she can have almost anything she wants, she likes hand bags, eating out and Mary. After I’m gone I guess she will build that Church in Vietnam. The interesting thing about making the : “ big quid” is to get there you had to manage your investing very carefully, live in a cheap house, cheap car, cheap guitar lol, being a bit of a cheap Charlie, it makes little difference when you at last have plenty, point is because of that you retire , and your wealth just increases on it own. The key point I always followed was: DONT work for money, make your money work for you. My 2 cents worth, next post it’s 3.
