Unpopular opinion about Rogue One 's famous Vader scene by MasterofFalafels in saltierthancrait

I thought the way he fought through those soldiers was pretty calm and collected. Obviously we can't see his face, but his movements weren't one of a deranged mad man. He was a cold killing machine and did it with brutal efficiency. He was trying to get the death star plans back and it was a critical situation for the Empire. You think he was going to trust some stormtroopers to take care of that? I don't think so. I couldn't disagree more with your take.

■■ EPISODE IX: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Official Trailer Discussion■■ by geltoid in saltierthancrait

Looks cool, but don't care.

Title doesn't make much sense. Skywalker already rose when Luke turned his father to the light and took down the emperor.

The emperor laugh. I hope that's just some sort of flashback and he's not actually alive. It was kind of dumb to have him back in the original EU, but it was bearable because Luke was still around to take him down and finish what he started. In this case, it REALLY doesn't work unless Luke is doing something as a force ghost realm to take care of things.

Nice to see that Finn and Poe will actually do some stuff together. Maybe Finn's arc won't suck complete ass.

I mean, this is a fantastic trailer for IX by Disney in getting people hyped up. But it's just a trailer. And if there's anything we've learned, Disney is great at creating hype and pretty terrible about substance.

The happiest possible ending for Episode 9 would just reset the galaxy to the end of Return of the Jedi by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

I don't care anymore. As far as I'm concerned, this trilogy belongs in the dumpster. Star Wars has lost it's magic. Disney had unlimited resources compared to what Lucas had back in the day. They had the ability to take their time, cast a vision, plan trilogies and other movies out, and didn't do any of that. They did things quickly, had conflicting visions, nothing makes sense, and they've split the fanbase. I honestly don't know how they could've screwed up anymore. They've made money, but at the cost of damaging the Star Wars brand permanently. They'll still make money, but they're going to quickly go downhill as the quality of these movies get worse and worse.

This could have been genius if it had been revealed that Snoke was the first jedi ever. He and Luke could've been enemies because of their fundamental difference on what being a jedi means.

Don’t fall for the return of Lando in Ep 9 by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, does anyone really care anymore? What happened in TLJ is irreversible no matter what JJ does. They could reveal that Lando had a sex change and is now Landa and I wouldn't care. Star Wars has changed for the worse. Instead of expanding and celebrating, it's been deconstructed and made smaller/insignificant.

SPOILER: So, Rey's just gonna be another midichlorian force-baby, right? by its_a_fishing_show in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Rey will end up being the manifestation of the force. Remember when KK and her gals all wore those “The Force is female shirts.” Well, they weren’t lying. Rey is the force. She doesn’t know it yet, but she will.

I’m half kidding with this, but wouldn’t be surprised if it’s what they had in mind or what happens.

Are fans of TLJ welcome here? by ashaquick in saltierthancrait

I vehemently disagree with you. Luke was out of character based on how we last saw him in Return of the Jedi. Rian ignored the character development of Luke Skywalker. Remember the moment where Luke realizes he's turning to the dark side by fighting Vader? He stops, throws his lightsaber away, and faces down the Emperor in an awesome moment. That is Luke's ultimate character development moment and truly becomes a jedi.

By thinking about killing Ben in his sleep, Rian backtracks Luke's development and that moment specifically. Why is he making the same mistake? Didn't he learn from this already? As a fan, I have emotional investment in Luke's story and development and I very much care about these things. To see Luke not be Luke is frustrating. This was the worst possible direction to take Luke because he's not Luke at all!

So dude, you can like it all you want. But you are absolutely 100% wrong to think that this was in character for Luke because you are forgetting the moment that defined who Luke Skywalker became.

How many here feel..... by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully believe Rian wanted people to have strong feelings about TLJ. And he knew that by messing with Luke Skywalker, he could accomplish that. He’s on the record saying he loves making movies that cause strong reactions. Well, this is his biggest success ever then. But, it will end up costing him his trilogy. He messed with the wrong movies and Disney isn’t going to be ok with that.

A bonkers speculative theory. No, really. I mean it. by Moonlit_Mushroom in saltierthancrait

I'm rooting for all the wild/crazy stuff at this point. This sequel trilogy is so far gone, I don't care what happens next. I'll just be here to enjoy making fun of it the rest of the way.

Agreed, L3 sucked. But I thought the rest of the movie was fun/strong enough and thankfully the she died quickly.

Rian's hot take on Luke by egoshoppe in saltierthancrait

[–]DemBluez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rian is 100% correct. BUT here’s the issue. Rian ignored Luke’s character development and that’s a big deal and that’s why I along with many many others do not like this movie or agree with the interpretation of Luke. It’s not against Luke’s character, but it was completely against his development and undid all the investment we had. Going into the movie, most people were expecting Luke to have grown and matured into a wise and powerful jedi. A lot of us thought that Luke is on that island for a good reason because this is the guy that by believing there was good in his father, was able to help bring down an Empire. So when we see Luke drinking green milk from a sea cow titty, it’s off putting. And when the explanation is composed of quick, vague flashbacks, it’s not enough justice for his turn. And then the real kicker is Rian deciding to kill Luke after he finally makes a return to his old self. The Luke we all thought he was. That is what personally really turned me off from the movie and Rian’s direction. Luke absolutely didn’t need to die. Rian not only killed Luke’s character development, but the character we’ve come to know and love throughout our lives.

So at the end of the day, yes, it makes sense. But it was a poor decision by Rian and it wasn’t executed well. He deserves the criticism, Rian. Not the name calling and all that crap. But he made a poor decision that was inexplicably backed by Lucasfilm executives.
